  1. not sure if i should start a new thread but...  this weekend i threw some corn down at my stand.. waiting to see what the trail cam picks up.. ill keep everyone posted. btw i hunt aong the rt 209 border of 3h

you may want to leave out the details about putting corn around your stand.......

  2. Is it me or did they extend the muzzle loader season for the southern zone to December 22. Because I thought last year it went till the 16 or 17 of December.

most of the the season dates are off this year......archery gets an additional week, regular season starts a week later, thus moving the muzzle loader season back a week..........or something along those lines. But I don't believe it's extended.

  3. Guys correct me if my interpertation is wrong . I am in the southern zone in Delaware county, so with my regular bow license i can take a doe or a buck with atleast 3pts on one side. Then I have a muzzleloader license for xbow the last 14 days of archery season. I can also take a buck or a doe like the regular bow license. Is this correct?

    Thanks

you get two tags that are interchangeable during the two seasons, providing you bought both.............what you get is just two tags, one either sex and one antlerless only.

  4. As far as it not being able to cull the herd enough, a huge problem on Long Island has always been access and having a 500' setback. Now that they have reduced the setback to 150' and are trying to open up more public land, they take away an incentive for hunters to shoot does. I just don't get it. When hunting in Wertheim Wildlife Refuge, the Feds got it right trying to reduce the herd. You have to shoot 2 does before you can get a buck tag. This encouraged hunters to take does, and has worked very well to reduce the herd.

I am all for shooting does, but if I had my choice I try to do it later in the season when temps drop. If they imposed an Earn-A-Buck program, I would empty my quiver on opening day and stack them up.

I think what has got many bent out of shape is just the simple fact that they may have to pass up a buck and kill does first, I'm willing to bet they would still complain no matter what plan was implemented if it in any way interfered with their ability to take a buck in any way shape or form........

  5. Just checked when on the DECALS site this morning.  The "bonus" permits in wmu 1c (eastern LI) are anterless only, the site specifically stated that they are doe permits and not the either sex permits given out in the past.  A change, oh well.

I may be wrong, but I think that changed prior to this year.......

  6. Have you done this hunt before?  I looked into it a few years ago.  Seemed like a bit of a hassle.  Is the hunting good in there?

it's ok, I think guys go in thinking it'll be like shooting fish in a barrel, far from it.........but still a decent hunt and not that much of a hassle.

  7. I just assume that if a business offers an employee discount, then they wouldn't want employees reselling the items at a profit.

But if an employer says "hey do want you want with the items we sold you at a discount" then  I guess you're right.

Anyone ever work for someone who said that??

no, never had to work in a department store on a sales floor, so I honestly have no idea what goes on or doesn't.............I'll get back to you if it ever comes down to that.

  8. No problem as long as gun season is open..

You just can't carry a firearm of any kind while bowhunting during the special bow season..

yeah, for some reason I remember being told you couldn't do that in NY........but I can't find anything stating otherwise.

  9. With me, some things don't have to be defined by Policy or rules. I think people should just know if something is right or not.  ( a foreign concept in todays "ME" world…. I know) There are no posted rules about cutting ahead of people in check out lines but I would never do it and say "theres no rule so…."  There is no written rule or law, that I know of, saying  you have to be quiet in a movie theater, but I would never sit there talking on my cell phone and yucking it up during a movie and say "theres no rule so…"

I would never think to take my grandmothers handicap parking plaque and say "hey I got the plaque so I can park there  if I want..

I guess my problem is that I put ethics and decency in the same category.. Keep doing what you want I guess.

my "if they don't care" comment meant that if they know about it and don't care and allow it, then I don't see a problem......obviously if a person is doing it and has the slightest feeling they are doing something wrong, then they probably are......which led to my other comment about how much crap they would have to buy and sell to make it even worth the risk, even if it was allowed I wouldn't even waste my time for a few bucks here and there.
