Look's like our back tags may be a thing of the past?
jjb4900 replied to maytom's topic in General Chit Chat
not needed in the Catskill Park or The Northern Zone....so what's the point of requiring them everywhere else? -
and with a shiny gun to boot.......nice job!
-
if you have curbside pickup, throw them in the can and seal till pickup day, watch out the window when the garbage men show up and break the seal...........entertainment at it's finest

I'm willing to bet, that responsible, non-helmet wearing motorcycle riders die in accidents at a much lower rate then the dopes who wear helmets, yet drive recklessly..........

MINIMUM AGE TO SHOOT AT INCORPORATED GUN CLUB RANGE?

I went back and reread it, and that's how it reads (the second time around)........ -
MINIMUM AGE TO SHOOT AT INCORPORATED GUN CLUB RANGE?
jjb4900 replied to defrazzle's topic in General Chit Chat
the way I read that exemption is that a person under the age of 12 is good to go, as long as he or she is under the immediate supervision of one of those people listed..........and if I read it correctly, a parent who has the listed qualifications can also supervise, the big question as for the parent, is whether or not a hunter ed certificate meets the criteria needed. -
I've never heard of a 5' rule, that's something new to me.........in most spots that would put you well into a ditch.

good point.....every time they invent or discover something that weeds out the idiots, they ban it or make it illegal.

I do most of my hunting within The Catskill Park and although not required, I've always worn mine..............I never thought of it as a major inconvenience. -
I don't know, what if?........

There are two different signs, one allows pretty much all activities and the other has restrictions on permitted activities..they look very similar so make sure you read them. The second sign requires the access permit that is issued by NYC DEP, the first one does not...........as far as parking, anywhere you can safely do so is fine. They also have signs that restrict all access, but as long as you go on land with those two signs above, you're good to go. http://www.nyc.gov/html/dep/html/home/home.shtml

nope, it doesn't....... -
I've been hunting the Catskills for 30+ years, last weekend was the first time I ever found one on me up here.........disgusting little things.
-
definitely not a Jake.....nice bird.

very sad that this topic has only gotten 9 responses....hopefully it's only because people are so repulsed by this act that there really are no words.

so is it safe to assume that the fact that he left the dog to suffer played as big or a bigger part of the charges he is facing then just the shooting of the dog alone?

ATV's have a place and a play a useful part in life for many......I live on L.I. and have a neighbor who has an ATV, he doesn't hunt, have property anywhere to use it or take the thing anywhere for a useful purpose, yet every time it snows out he takes it out with his kid, without helmets on and races up and down the streets, that there is beyond annoying......I would have zero sympathy for them if something bad were to happen, classic case of stupid people doing stupid things
-
it may affect me, but it doesn't bother me if they kill themselves acting like fools and hey, I may get some peace and quiet if they do ........and yes, like you said, annoying as hell, but it is what it is.

everyone's entitled to spend their money and land anyway they choose, whether wisely or not is up to them. I find a lot of stuff wasteful and foolish, but that's my opinion, I would rather use a wheelbarrow to move a load of wood 100 yards than an $8000.00 machine, but to each his own. The problem I have is the driving on public roads and going on land they shouldn't be on...but I think I said that already.

while I'm not gonna rip a guy for trying something new and while it's gotta be pretty exciting , I kinda agree, I'm not a big fan of destroying or crippling a bird just for the sake of cool video footage....if in fact that's the usual end result, which it may very well not be.

The day I got mine this year, I was at a vantage point across the valley where I could see a few guys stop, get out of their trucks and leave after a few minutes of calling from the roadside.....I went back to the cabin for a bite to eat and went to the same spot an hour or so later, within 45 minutes I tagged my Tom at that same spot. The last three years I got my birds in the last hour of the legal hunting hours after hearing zip all morning.....so I'm gonna say they are there and you gotta hit it right.
-
yeah, you're right..........it would be easier to come up with reasons that don't cause it, or maybe not.

what do you think causes a lack of gobbling, especially if you know there are turkeys around? I'm going to dismiss too much calling by hunters right off the bat, I've heard real hens, that if they were hunters, would be considered over calling by some, too much use of locator calls? last week I did a few owl hoots and the real ones started up and went crazy......bad calling? I've heard real hens that sound terrible compared to some callers. There's been days when it sounded like there was a Tom on every ridge and the next you would swear there wasn't on within 5 miles.........what do you guys think? I'm gonna go with hens already being with Toms and a general lack of interest on their part at certain times.

I know it's not one of your posted options, but we were just discussing an all day 1 bird limit, or something along the lines of what Phade suggested..........but keeping to your post I'd go with D.
