  1. Reasons for reading these reports: All of the above plus it is just plain interesting to see just how much illegal activity that some people are caught at in your vicinity. Now if they would just apply some of the statistical hokus-pokus, and work up total "corrected" numbers that comes up with a guess at the real numbers of total game-crooks we have in our midst .... lol. Now that would be interesting. Meaningless, but interesting. It might be some shocking numbers.

I would guess that for each person caught, there is at least two who aren't.......and that's being generous.

  2.

So what's the point of these releases really?

-Is the DEC trying to justify payroll by showing they have done SOMETHING?

-Is it meant to be a deterrent to potential violators?

-Is this just for entertainment purposes? (bathroom literature and forum discussion)

-Is it an indication of what areas of enforcement the DEC needs assistance with?

-Maybe it's just a list to choose which violation you're most likely to get away with when you compare the odds?

-Is it of ANY importance that WE see this information for ANY real reason or am I missing the point?

Out of all the hunters in any given region of NY every season, these violation #'s seem EXTREMELY low to me.... but that doesn't really matter none since I don't know what I'm supposed to get out of this data anyhow. ;)

maybe it's to appease the people who whine and complain that they do nothing...I'm sure they get calls from all the crybabies who accuse them of doing nothing, so they put it out there for them to see. Looks to me like a lot of enforcement is done for what they have to work with, and all that on top of the nonsense calls they have to answer as well.

  3. I think my 27 year of hunting and research has made me very knowledgeable on deer.  I think those who take what they are doing seriously can become experts if they really apply themselves in a relatively short period like 10 years.  Most "experts" I know are very passionate in their particular field and have a proven track record but that is not usually what makes them an expert.

Becoming an Expert IMHO comes over time from passion to learn, experience, trial and error, a proven track record along with an in depth knowledge of the subject.

We have some experts on this site, many of them have more than 30 year experience and really do not need to be mentioned by name, their in depth knowledge and post usually prove they are "experts" on hunting.

Expert and elite are sometimes just a tag given to those with much more knowledge then those of us who are "knowledgeable".

while I hear what you're saying, I don't think you can put the title of "expert" on something that you are constantly learning....if it's something like a skill, then maybe you can assume that title. I've been hunting for 30+ years, and although I may consider myself knowledgeable, I am certainly no expert because I have an open mind and learn something new all the time.

  4. How exactly does one attain the official title of 'expert'? Who would convey this weighty honor upon us?  And if I get the badge or hat or whatever does it mean no one can ever argue with me? Will my word be taken as gospel ever after? Would this make 'Because I said so" the rule of law? So many questions here, I need to consult an expert.

that's my question, at what point does one graduate from being "knowledgeable" in a certain field to being an "expert" in it?

  5. One rifle that was not mentioned and I have had a few different calibers threw the years ( shame the do not offer it in .308 ) but they do offer it in 7mm-08 is the Ruger #1 . Another well proven simple design. but also not cheap.

nice guns, my Dad has one in 7x57 which is a pleasure to shoot and very light to carry.........I have one in .243 which has zero recoil.

  6. Oh the value that's contributed here... Why aren't you guys in your capes flying around looking for people misusing punctuation, eating with their elbows on the table or something important of the regards?

I'll hang my hat on raising my kids right under God, logic and hard work- keep doing your parts on the Internet "liking" what really matters in this world.

good to see you wake up every two weeks and offer up some useless input....keep up the good work.

  7. post-2073-0-80142200-1423180080_thumb.jp

yeah, it's pretty bad......this is in front of my house down on L.I. a couple days ago, about three feet of water mixed with snow...they had to send a payloader to clear clear out the ice and snow that was blocking the storm drain. I went out there earlier to try and clear it by hand and went through a snowbank that quickly filled with water and soaked me up to my waist.........I can't describe the feeling, made me think how bad it must be to fall through the ice into a frozen lake, luckily I only had to endure it for about a minute.

  8. By the way do you all remember exactly what it was that we are talking about? We have a guy who knowingly involved his kid in illegal acts. And then he clearly left the lesson to his kid that this is just fine. I find it impossible to believe that there could be even a little controversy over that. I don't think that any of that requires any special social arrangements or situations to arrive at a consistent responsible opinion.

yeah, this whole thing had me shaking my head by page two..........it wasn't just one act, but an entire course of actions that made this really stand out in my mind. It wasn't just, "hey son sit on my lap and steer the car"....it was more like "hey son steer the car while I open our beers and if the cops stop us we'll let Aunt Judy slide over and say she was driving"........"oh, and I don't have a driver's license so don't say anything."...........and they wound up getting caught, after dear old dad put it out on social media, and the fathers response was "goddang it, this was the proudest day of mah life and all you folks is just jealous"

  9. Remember the ozone layer wasn't a debate. Im sure the response is that this is a photoshop but what the heck. attachicon.gifImageUploadedByTapatalk1423165021.048370.jpg

I have no doubt that all the crap they are trying to, and have done away with is bad for people and or the environment......it pretty much defies logic to even attempt to say it's good for, or not harming in one way or another, and I don't even need a big ole' diploma on my wall to figger that out.

  10. You do know leaded gasoline was also causing cancer and health effects at extremely alarming rates right?

Why do you guys with little to zero science or engineering background think you even have a clue?

while I don't or can't doubt your knowledge of the things of which you speak, were you even alive or even remotely old enough to have played a part in when they banned leaded gasoline, R22 or CFCs?

  11. So, when the law takes effect, who is going to remote areas of Alaska, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Montana, etc. to take away their heat source and perhaps their means to cook food?

How about the Amish?  Are they exempt by reason of religious practices?

Every farmer I knew growing up had a fireplace and/or woodstove.  When weather gets bad, you just don't know if they can bring in a truck with your oil or propane to heat your house and cook.  Have seen lots of farms with private dirt roads that you have to travel on to get to the farm house.

Are fireplaces and campfires next on the list?

To me it seems like they are pushing to keep everyone using petroleum products.

I don't think the law affects current stoves already in use...just the newly manufactured ones.

  12. I like to make a decision in the next 4 weeks as I hear the stove places are looking to get rid of inventory and would get the best deal at that time.

    Thanks.

I bought two display models a few years ago for the price of one brand new stove.......one went into my home, the other in the place upstate...definitely worth going that route.

  13. I highly doubt any of you ladies and gentlemen are in the woods as much as I am in the winter. I been in the herds. I see no evidence of any deer killed by coyotes!

that was meant to be sarcastic......guess it missed its target.
