ya man, hang that sucker... still early enough to get it in there, just be scent conscious and as quiet as you can given the circumstances and mid day is probly the least impact time for ya.. get it in there, let it sit for a bit and then hope for the best, sometimes stands like that pay off big time and you stand back n think " and i wasn't even gonna go through with it" worst case scenario it doesn't work out this year, but next year watch out bambi... good luck

possible being the weekend is 6/7 days away, remember, better safe than sorry, allow a little extra time. i know you said your symptoms have improved being able to lift a gallon jug, but that is the cardinal sin cause patients think, great ! and proceed to over due it and end up worse than they started... as a fellow bow hunter I KNOW your itchin , but the weather is still warm, the rut is not for another couple weeks, so don't blow it now... great that its only a lig sprain, and not a surgical candidate like a labral tear, or even rotator cuff involvment which can be a touchy situation cause it is constantly in play with shoulder movement.. gradually increase your shoulder act and the weight you lift with it... if you have some discomfort that last more than an hour or two after activity, back off, slow it down... otherwise some pain or discomfort that goes away with rest after some act, your ok, still you want to work just short of what produces those symptoms... good luck n i hope to see you in the bow harvest thread this season! ok so he initially stated he had direct injury and pain 5 years or so ago. Recently he fell with outstretched arms off a ladder and has done some overhead heavy lifting with pain. His most recent exacerbation he complains of warmth or burning in the shoulder and numbness or tingling in the thumb. Being that the initial injury is chronic in nature and recently had a flare up with these symptoms and now weakness and pain in the shoulder the inflammatory process is present. The body does naturally initiate inflammation to make the area painful to protect against further injury. However you do want to minimize that initial inflammation to a certain extent so increased fluid in the area does not cause further tissue damage. I say ice now because you want to slow down the metabolic function of the chemical irritants, reduce pressure on structures in the area ( radial nerve being he has numbness and tingling in his thumb) and constrict blood vessels. Then once that initial onslaught of the chemical irritation has slowed down, around that 10 day or so mark you want to increase blood flow to the area to bring with it nutrients for tissue repair, white blood cells to break up fibrotic tissue that has developed from the initial inflammation, and blood flow will get rid of metabolic waste clearing out the area in preparation for tissue regeneration. The deal with ice is, is that it constricts blood vessels, slows metabolic function yada yada, but you want to only leave it on for 15 - 20 minutes at the most at one time because anything longer than that the central nervous system kicks in saying the area is at risk for tissue damage because it get too cold, like an inherent protective measure. so then CNS will dialate vessels to bring blood to the area to warm it up ! so some people say , oh ya i put this ice on here for an hour and it even more swollen than before, thats why ... timing is everything with it.... but without a physical exam i can't say for sure whether it is muscle related ( rotator cuff) or inert tissue ( labrum or ligamentous) so if he is having pain and weakness with any motion you want to immobilize and ice , and then see if symptoms improve, if not in 2 to 3 days , he most likely will want to see an orthopedic surgeon or preferably a certified orthopedic physical therapist for evaluation...

No no we're in agreement as far as the pathophysiology goes... Mind me asking what u do for a living ? Let me get to a computer so I can write a more clear concise answer instead of on this dam phone lol
-
But again that's in the acute stages... Once u get to that 10 day or so mark u want to heat it or ultrasound , some type of modality to bring blood flow to the area bringing nutrients for repair as well as other white blood cells to break up and clear away some of that fibrotic tissue that develops with prolonged inflammation ...

Papist , certainly not ! Icing constricts blood vessels and drives fluid out ,also slows metabolic function of inflammatory agents in the area. it's the problem when u exceed that 15 to 20 min mark when the body tricks itself into thinking the area is at risk for damage from cold and THEN dialates vessels to get more blood flow to the area to warm it up bringing fluid with it...

Well you def have some inflammation going with the warmth or hot feeling u describe and numbness in your thumb ... Swelling can put pressure on the nerve as it runs from ur neck , through your shoulder, and down to your hand ... Everything's pointing towards a laberal tear but like I said without a physical exam I can't say for certain .... If u can immobilize it with a sling and not use it at all as well as get some ice on there in 20 min intervals.. Don't leave the ice on there longer than that at one time, the body tricks itself into thinking its too cold after a while and sends more blood there which will make ur swelling and pain worse... Hate ta say it but it doesn't at least improve somewhat in the next day or two , gotta get er cheched out...

U certainly have that to look forward to after yours ... Nature of the beast ... Then the weather will def let u know ...

ok so you had this happen 5 + years ago, been living with it with minimal to no discomfort and recently you have been doing some sort of construction (overhead dry wall right?) and the symptoms came back and worsened ?! you stated that your shoulder hurt just hanging there, and when lifting a bowl it was extremely weak and painful and also noticed some feeling in your neck? any shooting pain, numbness, or burning into your forearm, hand, fingers? describe the pain for me, what it feels like and where.... is there any point in the day where your pain is better/worse.... is it constant meaning there isn't a moment where it doesn't hurt? or is it worse at certain at a certain time of day or with activity?

based on your history and mechanism of injury it sounds like a possible labral tear or rotator cuff strain... tought call without a physical exam. but being that you fell with your arms out straight, the head of you humerous, or upper arm bone was forced toward the back of your shoulder joint which is loosly stabilized by the labrum, ligaments, and rotator cuff.... you also do a lot of overhead heavy lifting, construction? MRI is an option, but imaging is rarely a hundred percent positive diagnosis... orthopedic physical exam or PT physical exam preferably will give you a better idea of whats up.. for now, you can't go wrong with strengthening your rotator cuff for shoulder stabilization.. should relieve some of the fatigue and instability at the joint for now... grab a towel and tuck it underneath your elbow at your side and hold it there, get a cheap exercise band from walmart , wrap it around a door handle or something around waist height, keep your elbow at your side and bring your hand out to the side short of pain if present... then do the opposite holding the towel under your elbow and bring your hand in towards your stomach short of pain if present..... if tolerable , if you have a light five lb weight , hold arm at side and raise arm off to the side to shoulder height, again short of pain if present... do you have the most discomfort or pain with your arm in a "baseball pitch position" ? not uncommon to live with a labral tear....

good call, tough call!! stupid mandated politicians law! im my eyes , law aside, if you can ethically see your deer and pins, done deal... down in FL its half hour before sunrise, so basically when you have enough light... would have missed out on quite a few deer and osceolas especially if that was the case down there...

last Saturday I had this buck hop in the creek behind my tree and swim all they way down around the bend and out of sight... so tonight, i adjusted about a quarter mile down the creek in a funnel with corn 40 yds in front and the creek 60 yds behind me in the timber.... did a short little tickle with the rattle bag around 5 or so and some light grunting... then at 6 oclock the wind died, it cooled down quite a bit, and i got that feeling, almost like the hairs on my neck where standing up... let out of few soft gunts, and 5 minutes later i hear foot steps in the creek... can't see what it is yet or maybe i didn't hear it at all i said... then he pops out 30 yds downwind, and proceeds to make a scrape... shot em while he was tinklin... haha... wandered 30 yds and DUNSKY....
