  1. was that deer on private land? if i remember your more toward the finger lakes right?
  2. well i happen to look for food first to get a general idea as to where to look first for sign, especially for early and then late season.... then sign is obviously a close second(but number one once you find it) then trail cam pics, then the thought process and evaluation begins on which tree am i gonna set in and with the most cover i can get away with and what variety of winds am i gonna be able to get away with in this spot.... then if i've found a few spots thats cool, but then i key in on pinch points and funnels for the rut ( but mostly these spots overlap with good sign from the first part i mentioned) so its all about getting out there and surveying the land, only way you'll b successful good luck for u and me both!
  3. looks promising , i think i like this one better than the tick key http://www.tickkey.com/
  4. that particular model above doesn't look like it, it looks like a regular jacket/pants combo but with leafy on it.... they do offer different models that are a mesh/screen type style with the leafy on it and even a bug suit that has heavy mesh with the leafy on it called bug tamer.... all these guys worried about bow opening oct 1st and complaining about it being too warm should really think about one a these.....
  5. great for turkey season!!! and absolutely fine for bow.... use them all the time as one a my outfits for the day especiallly to keep cool in the swamp heat down here... really not a noise issue...
  6. oh boy i don't know if i could handle another sling style seat... they drive me nuts, on the open shot the seat sits on a frame, one a the main selling points for me besides being so lite... but hey enjoy it, i love when the doorbell rings... its always something good to go in the woods with haha...
  7. been using these for a few years and im completely sold... shot two does n three bucks with these things all pass throughs, two of which were hard quartering shots, but the broadhead never deflected and all my deer went down within 80 yds... so i can't complain... tough, durable, etc..
  8. couldn't find the thread, but relates to the "why we love the outdoors" .... posted a proud pic of an osceola i got, and had some negative comments about it.... needless to say, a few beers and some scotch later , i couldn't let it rest n wrote this.. Niki Battaglini That's just wrong May 6, 2010 at 9:27am · Like Joey Hitchcock but ooohhh soo right haha... VEGETARIAN thanks giving for you this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! May 6, 2010 at 4:48pm · Like Delete CommentHide as Spam Niki Battaglini Well I won't go that far.. May 6, 2010 at 4:50pm · Like Joey Hitchcock was just flippin though my pics cleanin up a little, and came across this one, then read the comments, love you nikki, but it got me thinkin about the people who didn't fall into the great outdoors and don't understand why we do this... for that bird I had to wake up at 3:30 in the morning, drive an hour and a half, walk through waist high water in my waders, then hike 3 miles with all my gear which took me about 20 minutes ( and thats hoofin it hopin somebody wasn't in my spot already) in the cold, in the dark, watch the sun come up and here the birds gobble up in the trees around me( which was beautiful but i am not a morning person) to miss this bird on the first shot at 24 yds then fortunately get em on the second... now thats some hard work and dedication to do something that i love and wouldn't change it for the world... now think of your average jo shmo who gets the easy meal on thanksgiving just put on the table for them... all they had to do for that farm raised bird (raised in pens with a 100,000 or more squeezed in) is go to publix take it out of the cooler, check out, drive home, n throw em in the oven... how is that even comparable! at least i put in the work on a chance that i might not even get one to get my thanksgiving turkey as well as supporting land and wildlife conservation through the required licenses i buy... how's that food for thought? as i like to say" just cause you didn't pull the trigger doesn't mean you haven't killed something in your life time" unless you are a vegetarian!!!!! 9. sound like your in southeast, i think the worst of it's been upstate down to central n even western.. consider yourself lucky!!!!!!!!!
  10. i gotta say i started out hunting ducks, father never hunted a day in his life.... my brother in law got me into waterfowl when i was 12 n i was hooked... had never even thought of big game, turkey etc... but once i had called in and killed my first turkey(osceola nun the less) it was all over.. i realized that the challenge and realization of desire, hard work, failure and the euphoria of success has ruined me for life... it is a passion that burns inside of me all day everyday whether looking up new gear, reading articles, watching video, scouting on foot or via computer, checkin trail cams, or dreaming about the possibilities of opening day... it took me two years to have a dear walk in range, to shoot my first deer, and shoot my first buck... all in one hunt i killed my first deer and buck needless to say with a bow.... can't get any better than that.... something i still think about all the time and keeps me motivated for next season as to what im gonna see or harvest.... i love to talk to those tree huggin sob's that walk into publix n walk straight to the meat section n think there better than us... i'll post a comment on a photo i had on facebook in the why i love hunting thread if i can find it and you'll see why its bs!!!!!!!!!!

  12. hell i would only do that in cold weather in the garage... but ya its like dry aging beef... let the bacteria break down the tissue n a thick layer forms on the outside, trim that layer off and the rest is prime meat... do some research on it n you might change your mind, not that skinned n boned in less than a day or two aint bad at all , its an option...
  13. well , new remedy for removal and the easiest as far as im concerned.... take a little bit of liquid soap, put it on a cotton ball and swab it on the tick for 15 to 30 secs.... tick comes out on his own supposedly everytime and quick... especially if its in an akward place like between the toes, on your A(&*, back , or in your hair where you can't really get some tweezers by yourself... tick sticks to the cotton ball once withdrawn... haven't found any vid's on this yet but still lookin.... anyone have any experience with this ???? be sure to try it out this season if such should happen...
  14. true that,, i always get a good look on the puter before i go out but still gotta drive it n do some pokin around and then take a second n third look on g earth cause what is and what isn't is a fine line sometimes when lookin on the maps haha.... but i can't wait to get up there, get some camera's out, wish i had em out now to get some velvet pics but , i'll be up early july and it'll probly be late july early august before i can wear down some leather... plenty a time though....
  15. i've never had a problem as long as you gut em as soon as possible, once you do that it buys you at least an hour or so to get em on ice, as long as you pack the cavity your good for the ride home.... bow hunting in august/september is not the most ideal but i ate every bit of that buck i shot in the 95 degree august heat n it was two plus hours before i had em skinned and boned out... no meat spoilage what so ever...
  16. i would go with the turnips if your looking to draw them in late season after all the crops have been taken out and the snow is on the ground... when you get a good freeze the sugar content in the turnips increases and the deer love em.... also takes them longer to wipe out as opposed to a clover or brassica especially on a plot as small as a quarter acre....
  17. haha lookin forward to what you call "hot" lol... be new to the area this season from Florida.... the state that show's no mercy chasing whitetails early in the season... i killed a buck in august with temps in the upper 90's n 80 to 100percent humidity ... playing the wind is needless to say an art down here and a must being that we never get those cold cold days to help on the hike in... and bugs... i don't know a hunter down here that does not own stock in thermacell, and if you forget it or refills, YOU DONT HUNT... simple as that ... really stoked to hunt in NY state, if i can find em in the swamps i can find em anywhere is what i like to say.... be lookin forward to success story's this coming year, goodluck , Joey
  18. ha, i learned how to hunt deer in the swamps of florida, got no problem throwin on my waders n finding that spot where no ones gonna be...
  19. anyone spend some time in the deer stand in oak orchard, tonowanda, or iroquois national forest? worth it? too wet? or are there plenty of dry woods ? I know how the competition is and im not lookin for spots , just a general opinion...
  20. well i know if you treat you clothing with permytherin like sawyers its good for up to like 6 or 7 washes... seen em die crawlin up my pant leg after the 4th wash anyway.... i just bought another bottle to lather up with for scouting ....
  21. ooopppss my bad , didn't read all the way down before i opened my big mouth lol... you wont be dissapointed , only stand i can sit all day in!!! and get the foot rest for the extra 30 bucks its a huge game changer for your back... happy hunting...
  22. if your gonna go with an open style climber which is great for bowhunting, you might as well go with the open shot which has a 3 inch padded foam seat instead of an uncomfortable sling style... most comfortable stand i've ever sat in!!!! http://www.summitstands.com/climbing-treestands/openshot/openshot-sd-climbing-treestand, and it still is only 15lbs... great for those out a the way spots that i like to go to!
  23. gorgeous... im jealous,,, just need a few more mounts on the wall
