What do you mean by it's roost hunting?
-
A neighboring hunting club spends over $ 30,000 in food plots every year both to draw deer and for QDM. Last year my son and daughter both shot 8 pointers on our land with no food plots one of those was a monster. Deer that we never even had trial cam pictures of!! What we had was a bunch of does on our land. When they came into heat the bucks came. Of course we were accused of baiting and that club and anybody else for that matter was told to come check out our land for said plots with no takers.LOL Funny how a deer will make fools out of grown men!!

I'll stick with what is really old school a vertical bow. I shot my first deer 46 years ago with a recuve and have switch back and fourth with a compound!!

OH YEA I REALLY WANT TO GO OUT DURING ARCHEY SEASON WITH ONE OF THOSE!!! NOT!!!!

Alright... This looks like a Mountain Lion

Lion!! You could have one come up and bite most of these guy's in the ass and they would still say it's a house cat! LOL!!! -
I carry a box call, scratch box, glass, slate, crystal, and aluminum all of them have taken birds!! But I tend to use the box the most!!
-
Only use one hen decoy when I'm in the open like a power line in the woods no!!

Gobbling will "sometimes" work but is not a cure all, purring loadly anf fast with a slate call which sounds like 2 gobblers fighting will "sometimes" work. If you can only afford one decoy buy a hen decoy but even that doesn't always work. Heck I've called in hard to kill bird by scratching in the leaves trying to sound like turkeys feeding!! If you do use a gobble call be careful that there no other hunters in the same woods you may get shot at. Like I said before you never know what a turkey will do on any givin day!!
-
Henned up gobblers are the hardest to kill!! Everything turkey feathers said is ture to form but after 40 years of hunting them you never know what a turkey might do on any given day!!

I had the pleasure of taking my son-in-laws 12 year old nephew out trukey hunting this morning for his very fisrt time. We went out last night a put a bird to bed so I knew right where to go. At the first sign of light I owl hooted and the bird gobbled. There was two of them and knew we had a fighting chance!! I could see a hen on the roost about 80 yards away, she flew down off the roost and landed right next to the decoy. I heard other hen's also so I knew it might be a hard hunt. When to tom's left the roost they started heading the other way so I went to work on the hen's hopeing they would bring the gobblers with them. Well it worked I got the boss hen's feather ruffed up and in she came in with 2 other hens and the 2 longbeards. The boss hen was picking at my decoy and really putting on a show for the 2 of us at 20 yards. The gobblers were still to far out for the 20 Ga. that the kid had so I had he wait until they got in range. Well they never did!! Just when I thought it was going to happen the birds spooked because the VILLAGE IDIOT tryed to sneak in on the birds I was working!! Let me tell you what happened next was not pretty. and I said some words that the kid I had and the kid he had should not have heard!! This guy knew I was woking those birds and tried to sneak in on them. Of course he gave me a line of BS but he parked right next to us so he knew there were other hunter in the area. The thing that made me the madest was he never said sorry to the kid who's hunt he screwed up. Hopefully the 2 boys learned a losson to have more consideration for other hunters, but I have the felling the VILLAGE IDIOT will continue to be an A-HOLE!!

I don't blame you but. I have had torn rotator cuff for the last two year and have not been able to bow hunt after 42 years of bow hunting. That said I still won't buy a x-bow to hunt with to me it's not bow hunting but to each there own.
-
This has got to be the DUMBEST post I have ever read!!! Anybody and I mean anybody who shoots a cat is an A-HOLE and has no right calling themselves a sportsman!!!
-
I haven't shot a jake in the spring season in years they all get a free pass. In the fall I'll take them and hen's. I have turkey dog that I use in the fall and have a lot of time and money in her. Theres nothing like having a dog break a flock of birds than calling them back to the gun. There's not alot of fall turkey hunters out there so the # of birds taking in the fall amounts to nothing. A better idea is get rid of the stupid season on coyotes!!
-
Wait until they let those guy's in the woods with those x-guns then you better duck and cover!!!

I asked a DEC officer last year at our youth bow hunting camp about cougers in NY and about some recent sightings near by. He asked where there sighting were so I told him. His reply was a sly smile but no striat up answer which lead me to believe they know more about it then they are willing to share!!
-
So there you have it guy's if you really want to hunt using a crossbow have at it and leave NY archery season pure the way it should be!!!
-
First I'm not a NYB member!! Second I'm disabled and can not shoot a bow anylonger!! You guy's make the NYB out to be some kind of big bad boggie man when in fact there are many more sportsmaen and women out the that feel that X-Bows are not archery. Third I do believe that those that have a disabilty that prevents them from drawing a bow should be able to use one if they so choose. It's just not for me!!!! I feel that the challange of hunting with a bow and arrow is getting close to the game, drawing the string back, keeping your nerves intack enough to make a clean kill. Not picking up a X-Bow putting the stock agianst your shoulder, looking through a scope, and squezzing a trigger. If I wanted to do that then I would pick up a rifle which I have!! The problem I see here are all the other hunters out there that are not disabled looking for the easy way out so they can use a X-bow to get into archery season!!
-
You couldn't give me a WB!! For that matter you couldn't even pay me to shoot with one!! I shoot feathers and had nothing but problems with them.
