If you think you'll screw an area up before season with one intrusion... then by all means stay out. You'll have plenty of time to screw things up once season begins while your out there for days at a time. If you're confident in your skill level to be out there at this stage of the game, then it likely wont make much difference once season rolls around. I never could stand the timid approach to scouting or just being in the woods as deer season draws closer.

Great shots! Those are a couple of honkers for sure!

Early Bow Season - How long do you let your deer hang?
wooly replied to jrussell's topic in Bow Hunting
Last season I dropped off a deer to him on 11/3 and another on 11/15. He still had his sons deer hanging (skinned) in his shop from the first one I dropped off 12 gays earlier. To my eye, it didn't look like something I would even think about eating at that point..., but I've never tried it, so maybe I'm missing out. -
Shooter for me. I don't ask for forum members permission on any legal deer when things line up just right for me. Your season..., your tag..., your expectations... YOUR CALL!

Early Bow Season - How long do you let your deer hang?
wooly replied to jrussell's topic in Bow Hunting
Mine don't hand for long. Right after the pictures, they get cut into single serving size chunks, wrapped , and frozen, ASAP! The tenderloins I dig right into before the ey're even cold. On the other hand, I know a guy(processor) I also deal with who is a butcher at "Tops friendly markets" who swears by aging them at least 10 days for best quality. I've never had the patience for that, but I suspect he knows what he's talking about. -
Give me an antler in each hand and I'm gonna have some fun! When my arms get tired I'll let out a few grunts, bleats, blats, and belches, lol

Virginia Success Video! Our season has officially started!
wooly replied to AdirondackBH's topic in Out of New York Hunting
Great job on the Virginia bow only, doe only hunt success! As always, great job in the video department as well. Something about your vids seems to keep improving from one vid to the next..., but I can't quite put my finger on what it is. -
http://www.wgrz.com/story/news/politics/2015/09/08/cuomo-calls-for-national-gun-policy-after-aide-shot/71878742/ Probably because he knows some "whacko" is gonna cap his azz before any legal gun owner in their right mind would ever think to do. He's gettin' nervous now, as he should be... I hope them crazies nail the chitball and all the bodygaurds around him that support his crap conforming stupidity.

Diggin' the splitz on that dude! Looking forward to some shots after he peels out!

CRS......? Chronic Red dawg Syndrome? You'll find the keys when you sober up in another week. I'll bet you put them up high out of reach of the kiddos somewhere.

This was my regular season opening day buck from last year. First pic is from Oct 5'th 2015 and the second pic is from Oct 26'th 2015 Both pics you can see the row of spots running down his spine but he didn't have them when I killed him on November 15'th. (that kinda sucked) What do you guys think..... nice 6 month old with good genetics or what, lol Now I KNOW i've got a few pics of some REAL dinks I've killed I'll have to look for, but even they didn't have spots. Sometimes it's nice for a little guy like me to be able to drag them out one handed and toss the in the back of the truck like a bunny carcass when that's what I'm in the mood for.

What information were you looking for? We got all the answers you could ever ask for right here! Their site seems to be very one sided IMO,lol

Interesting replies.., I've honestly never seen it here post October 1'st. That little runt in eddies second pic looks like it just dropped out of the birth canal.

That's usually the one that sends most guys off the deep end, and comes with the highest penalty.(risk) All that other stuff you posted just builds up to this point and then it all comes out. Everything else is just a slap on the wrist, and most violations you can simply plead guilty and mail in a minimal fine. Just an inconvienience to the offender.

Deer (especially nice bucks) wont hit a salt lick with any regularity durring daylight this time of year through late winter... I wouldn't sweat it. Tell him throw some corn out with it for extra appeal.

Are you guys still seeing solid spots on your trail cams, or they seem to be fading or still holding on right now?
-
I just found two guys that have NO problem answering to moose and ANTLERS...... Hope the grills still hot and the beers still cold cuz we're headed over whether they're telling the truth..... or NOT!!! .... just a side thought here not intended to distract from the overwhelming response. Any of you know "moose" from Bison Archery,,, he would be Connies son, and I always wondered if this MOOSE was him here. Don't matter and just a side thought, Happy B-day to the true ANTLERS and moose out there.... whoever you are!
-
Just curious how many have seen fawns that still have their spots durring bow season. I got a trail cam pic of one once since we went to the Oct 1'st opener but have never seen one durring season other than that. I did snap this pic two days ago, and was thinking the little one might retain a few spots into early archery season.

I've always fell asleep RIGHT after good sex and a ciggarette. We're all big boys here, so I can tell you plenty of other ways to tire yourself out if you're a single non smoker, lol

Sorry turkeyfeathers, plants with little red round berries and mushrooms are my weakness other than the obvious. I see those things around here too. Round and red I don't think is enough to go on for a good ID so I'm ok leaving them alone. What I thought was a big patch of ginseng last year turned out to be something entirely different when I looked at things more closely. I suppose with that philosophy, I really don't need to know the difference in varieties. They sure add some nice color to the woods this time of year though!
