This coming from the guy who admitted to hunting with a family of poachers. Those threads wouldn't be too hard to dig back up if you'd like me to. Yes..... no....?

I can respect that point of view no doubt. I particularly like your point of "Not a luck based hunters approach in anything I do".... my approach is much the same, but without setting the bar as high in the end as some of you do in inches. By "most productive" I was referring to the point that even the newbiest of newbies might even have the opportunity at a real brute in a funnel when they get that love drunk. If that takes away from your dedication or fulfillment throughout the rest of the year leading up to a time when a lot of mature bucks hit the ground to rookies.... well that kinda sucks from that point of view. Now that WHERE you kill an animal becomes part of the equation as much as what you kill it with, I don't like where hunting is going. I don't know who's "yard stick" we're using anymore for deer hunting success measurements, but apparently many of us are falling short in how we measure success based on the terrain a buck was killed over. I'll be loaded with a 64GB SD card this fall. Please be sure to wipe off the ruler before the next guy lays his horn on it!

So what are you saying.... the guys that put all this effort forth durring those times don't put any effort into finding funnels to hunt at one of the most productive times of the season in the chase phase? That doesn't make much sense that a "trophy buck" kill in a funnel should be considered any less of an accomplishment than one that was killed in a bean field, or an oak flat, or a well used trail. I swear some days I can't believe some of the things I read here, lol

Then we wonder why there was such a resistance from "conventional bow hunters" when x-bows were introduced. You guys even worrying about what penetration and KE is @100yds is a point that has brought out more opposition to the x-bow than anything else. These guys are shooting stationary targets in all these vids.... not taking pokes at living breathing game. -
Was that buck shipped from Texas. Small body.... ENORMOUS rack! Looks like a nice southern 2.5 year old,lol

Stones, I know you know a fixed blade is going to fly differently from a mech head and vice versa most of the time no matter what you shoot it from. Same as comparing ANY broadhead configuration to a field point. I don't know what all the hoopla about seeing a fixed blade head hit the mark at 100yds is all about, but some guys like to try some crazy stuff. When I hear that as one of the questions that a newbie wants to know before they get into x-bow.... well, it makes me nervous what they're thinking. Once you dial in the scope, as long as you're not mixing and matching between the two, it's really not all that hard to drop them all in the same dot as long as you do your part on the trigger end consistently. I'm pretty darn good out to 50yds and that's all I really care about. -

It's not relevant to anything in the mind of an ethical x-bow hunter. It's not a shot that should be taken on live game IMO.., but is is VERY doable on a range whether or not wolc123 can do it himself or not. Compound shooters admit to practicing at long range with high velocity rigs with broadheads all the time just for fun. Some are very good at it because they're skill level and equipment are up to par. Here's another clip for your hump day evening. 200 yd compound shot with fixed blade broadhed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkdI7LHzvwk -

Lol- one of you doesn't even practice at a range he plans to kill something at, and the other doesn't even own a crossbow. I'm sure those requests are being worked on as we speak. I got a video you guys can watch together in the mean time. It's a classic! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLB-uMPj27s -
I haven't been there in a couple of years, but I really enjoy this show. Mr. Wallace who heads up the flinyknapping event was kind enough to knapp me up a knife for my father a few years ago in exchange for some old antlers I had laying around. You'd be amazed how sharp this piece is! I always get inspired to start flaking the bottom of beer bottles after I see these guys do their thing!

Congrats- It'll be nice to have an extra hand around the ranch in a few years!

Well, here it is in a nutshell numbnuts.... If you're going to make a post like this then just drop the link and be done with it if you got nothing to back it up with. When you sent me that PM, it didn't reinforce my opinion of who you are, or who you want to be. Sure, being helpful and informative is nice to newcomers, but as it's been said before, they need to sort through the crap postings of link droppers with no experience with the message they're trying to convey. Don't get your feelings hurt partner. I'm sure I'm not the only one who sees right through you......

You're getting pretty crafty with the pics there Larry, and not even a wet spot or BB-Q stain on the t-shirt!!! I'm impressed...... LARRY,lol Looks like it was a fine day for a B-day with momma and friends.

Wasn't me.... That is a real pisser. Any culprits you'd suspect that knew you'd be out of town when it happened?

I got no sympathy for public land hunters. All the small parcel PRIVATE land I have permission to hunt gets POUNDED by family and friends of the landowner as well as trespassers. I don't mind seeing clueless hunters out there moving deer around since I've done my homework.

I have no doubt in my mind that Field Archer could drop 3 fixed bladed bolts onto the kill zone at that yardage consistently. Why or how you ask?..... because he's familiar with his rig. I don't think I'd be able to pull it off myself with any regularity simply because I don't even practice at that range. There's still a good amount of skill involved with shooting a crossbow accurately no matter what anyone tells you when you reach out that far. I believe he has shown time and time again through his video compilation he's more than capable of quick, clean, effective kills when he trips the trigger. That has little to no luck involved because he doesn't push his limits and uses his head. One of these days maybe that will sink in for you. -
Another vote for two different bucks here.

Try Paula.... that will give you a good reason to look the other way when hubby calls and you can say you thought he was talking to the dog,lol

Should have bought two of them so could dump one here in the classifieds at 25% off MSRP to help pay for the one you kept! Good guns under 3 bills are hard o find! Have fun with her!

How do you dispose of coyote carcasses?
wooly replied to Curmudgeon's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
I've only killed one coyote in my entire life. Not because I haven't had the opportunity to kill more... I just don't see any sense killing something I have no use for. The one I did kill, I tossed under a stand of hemlocks and didn't check on it until the following spring. Just a skeleton left by then as one would expect. I have no idea what eats them, as I'm sure many others here don't have the time or patience to sit over a coyote carcass as well so who knows. If someone wants to drop off a yote for me, I'll bet I could get proof that vultures would chow down on them when dropped in the right spot. They ain't too picky! -
I'm not in that zone, but have noticed a recent decline in buck AND doe activity in the fields here lately. A bumper apple crop this year, with a few starting to drop seems to be keeping them in the timber until the sun goes down right now here in 9h. Our fields just got cut recently, so there's been a lot of commotion around them. It's been a predictable pattern here the last few seasons. That may also have something to do with it.

Those babies fly just as true as "Jesus Bolts",lol Nice shootin'! -
I've got (5) 4ft sections up to this stand. It ends 3ft short of the platform where I shimmy around to the branches and a few screw in steps for handles so this one is right around 23'. I don't normally go that high, but I always feel safer with a few branches below me when I do get up there. I just pulled the bottom strap on the first set of sticks because the black strap around the trunk didn't go well with the rest of the pic. She's all secured again and ready to go.
