Few things that will be around long after mans time on earth has expired.... Cockroaches... Twinkies... coyotes... and SPAMl! I used to work with a Mexican guy that brought in some BB-Q Spam burritos to share for lunch one May 5'th. They were surprisingly delicious considering I suspected they were leftovers from the year before, lol!

I posted my fanged buck find from this season here in the taxidermy forum for anyone that might have missed it. I never expected to find one locally. Full story here. http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/31503-fanged-buck/

Still trying to drop one more red fox and another yote before it's over, then I'll really start hunting for antlers unless we get snowed in again. Killing one more of each targeted k-9 would go a long way at boosting my confidence as an effective predator killer, and not just a fluke "one kill wonder".

Anyone here got it? I need you to tell me if I like it or not. I don't notice any difference from my previous Verizon or Time Warner connections yet. Basically all I use it for is browsing sites like this forum, and loading pictures to my site. Got hooked up to Hughes Net since it was all that was available in my area without being on a never ending waiting list (Verizon), or paying outrageous ($1500) excavation/installation fees for Time Warner to run a line from the nearest pole 300ft away. Now that I'm back online reading the reviews, I'm getting nervous about this inter-galactic space ship stuff beaming signals to my hunting portholes! Anyone here have any experience with this service?

I posted this nice deadhead find back in December. I finally got around to skulling him out. He smelled so bad by that time that I almost sawed off his rack and called it a day. Instead I got to work with my hatchet and busted some teeth out trying to make quick work of separating the lower jaw. He was so rotten, the skin almost peeled itself off as soon as it hit the water revealing two sweet FANGS! I just so happened to have an antler that fit this skull perfectly too for a nice stand, lol

Thanks bud! Still trying to think of what to do with the skin but the skull is almost done. I just so happened to have an antler that fit perfectly....imagine that!

Ok fellas put me on the short list too! Nice pack of yotes here! 1-9-16 Not sure she came in for the carcass I was hunting over or if it was my seductive alpha dawg howls, lol Regardless, she showed up 10 minutes after my first call of my 3'rd hunt at 30yds at 12:09pm. I've had ZERO luck since.

Describe the techniques you used to attract deer this 2015 season
wooly replied to Rockspek's topic in Deer Hunting
Most experiences were positive so far. I still got busted on occasion, but this smoke was free, so I wasn't expecting 100% fail proof human scent eliminator. I had well over 100 deer encounters this season and more often than not, they seemed a little less on edge than they usually tend to be. It's hard to say though.... they don't usually pay much attention to me when I smell like sweaty azz all summer long aiming a camera at them so who knows. I certainly wont hesitate to do the same thing in the future and throughout the coming months afield. I think it works well enough so far that it's worth experimenting with a little more and having some fun with. -

I can't say this technique will "attract" deer but it sure does seem to confuse their nostrils. I'm always trying new things, so I "smoked" my clothes 3x's this year and always had this jacket and pack on as a layer as well as the bibs I was wearing at the time. I think the Injuns used to do something similar. I can't think of a more common, un-alarming scent wafting through the woods once fall rolls around. I've always wanted to try it, and this year I did. The results were not bad.... not bad at all! It's not something I'd swear by just yet, but I'll definitely be experimenting with it more this winter. The post season is a great time to try new stuff like this to see how they react. -
That might not be a bad thing if it has real good suction memory. I'd program it to check in every hour, lol.

No chit, I think even Jesus is jealous some days, lol That dude was a riot at my party but he needs a haircut! Ok, but don't leave a light on for me. I''ll be down and out by 8pm. Now that I think about it ....you better leave the light on for me! I'm so old and fragile I might twist an ankle before I get out of the car! BTW- no horns today...

Oh Lord no.... I don't have the cash to throw around on critter skins an skulls. Borax (boric acid) is the poor mans duct tape when it comes to stuff like this for me. Sure it's a little stiff when it dries, but it holds it's shape nicely that way an is still completely functional when you plan out the pivot points. I've got a few deer hides in the works as we speak that will be turned into hand muffs and arrow quivers the same way. I'm no taxidermist, but what I come up with usually is preserved well enough and hangs around for a few years without gettin' tossed this way. One day I'll learn how to do things right.... but for now I won't charge anyone for my useless advice,lol...

Thanks again guys! I'm off to my yearly B-day antler hike! Smooches to you all for the birthday wishes, lol With age comes wisdom.... soon I will be as smart as you guys!
-
Happy B-day wooly you ol' fart! Good luck finding some antlers today. Thanx guys, lol

I've been shooting the 250gr. SST's since I started ML hunting. They are accurate as all heck out of my gun but as others have said, they have some issues with expanding. I'm sure there are better options out there but I have a stock pile of 100+ of these things to burn through before I explore other options. I've almost lost a few deer to perfect shots in good tracking snow when this bullet zipped right through them. Love their accuracy, but HATE what they do on impact unless they hit bone. I don't mess around anymore and intentionally aim for base of shoulder and neck with them. Hope you don't learn about them the hard way.
-
Lol- yeah, unfortunately you can't put a price tag on skill no matter how much your arrows and broadheads cost. Bad shots happen to everyone but this guy has a really bad "shot to harvest ratio" from what I've seen over the years.
-
Those are sweet! I really like the primitive look to them. Polished flashy steel has never been my thing! I'll hook you up with some bone.
-
It's VERY rare anyone pays much attention to stuff like that anymore unless it's announced on the daily news, or their rolling around in the bed of a pick-up with someone elses girlfriend, lol Be sure to bring your cats in and beware the wearwolves! WOOT-WOOT- OHHOOOOOO!!!
-
That's a new sales gimmick for suckers like me! I wouldn't touch the stuff if it didn't have horns on it.... BLAH-HUCK-TOOIEY.....tastes like Tinks they tell me! Jesus loves the stuff though, lol
-
Is there such a thing as an "un-wanted antler?".... I don't think so, but I have a pile of sawed offs I'd be willing to part with that might work out perfect for your needs. Maybe we could swap a bunch of building material for a finished product?
-
Thanks all! Now that I got a few deer carcasses located in good areas that haven't been hit yet, I might try to ZAP a few more furry fuzzys over them. I have a few more ideas in mind for some furbearer skins and I'm planning on putting some serious effort into predator hunting this winter. As always..., I'll lug the camera along for any necessary follow up shots!
-
Wimps, lol I'm celebrating Jesus and my B-day tonight. Don't worry.... there's plenty more beer, jerky, and vape where that came from!
-
He was shot with a bow by the same guy I told you stole my rattling antlers. His faggy green Shwacker tipped arrow was still sticking out of him.
-
That's why I wanted him. He's the tallest 6pt I've ever found His body looked like a midget deer but the burr around his bases was as big as a pancake. I thought he was a fawn until I plucked his head out of the brush. Then I just got sad I wouldn't be able to follow up on him anymore. I really think he was just a sweet 1.5 yo.

I love El Nino! I hope we never see another snow flake this winter!
