Rage 2 blade vs Grim Reaper 3 blade
Guns&ReligionCop replied to Guns&ReligionCop's topic in Bow Hunting
Meat Manager, I'm not sure if having a field point in a quiver is illegal or not while big gaming hunting and even if it is I'm not about to report a kid down the street that gets bored while deer hunting and launchs a few at squirrels. Not a habit I would practice in fear of spooking anything worth while. Thank you for your opinion and respectfully arguing it. The pics were good. Like I have said I have only used rage this one time and was not impressed and haven't been impressed with the quality in the design or the durability. Geno on the other hand drives his point in with a certain the degree of arrogance and sarcasm so anything he says I take with a grain of salt and just assume how great he must be in his own mind. -
WOW, Someone came on here an admitted they weren't a hunting god!!! Sucks Wheelie but that's why they call it hunting and not shooting. Learn from it and use it towards future hunts. Good Luck and stay safe!

Larry beat me to it but I'm sure were only joking anyway but your cars are supposed to be insured to their primary location. Otherwise its known as rate jumping which is a crime. I'm sure you just said in jest and would never publically advertise trying commit a crime. But something I do believe you will see in the future are less and less Florida license plates here in NYC

Who's the best taxidermist in southern NY?
Guns&ReligionCop replied to WestchesterBowman's topic in Taxidermy
I don't know who to recommend but my next mount will be going to Kurt Fox. I've heard nothing but rave reviews from him on this site and nothing negative. Also I'm pretty sure Biz-R-World put Mr Fox's kids through college with all the taxidermy he has had done and he seems to be incredibly satisfied. I can tell you who highly don't recommend. Carl Pepi and his Team at Jonas Brothers Studio. Although they are incredibly nice people I was totally disgusted with my experience. It was far from quality and work and the 6 month guarantee was a joke. After months and still no mount I was informed that it would be down as soon as they returned from the fishing trip. The story, The largest buck I had ever gotten and my first mount was the deer in my profile pic. Being a december buck this guys neck was swollen and massive. When I got my mount back after nearly 8 months (remember the 6 month guarantee) It was mounted to form that was much to small and they cut hair off the back to make up for the slack but the face didn't fit properly and has huge bump in the between its snout and eyes. The thing looks like it had botox. It was shoddy work at best and I was extremely disappointed. Like I said they are very nice people but they will never get my business again -
Rage 2 blade vs Grim Reaper 3 blade
Guns&ReligionCop replied to Guns&ReligionCop's topic in Bow Hunting
I'm beginning to think Geno C is spokesmen for rage broadheads because he feels so passionately about how amazing they are. So exactly how far the deer ran is a guess. It may not have been a half mile,I wasn't paying that much attention in the dark but it was several hundred yards and that is a lot further than you should ever have to track with a decent shot. When we finally recover this doe another member on this site new2bow said something along the lines of "I cant believe it went that far with that hit!" I'm noticing a lot of experts chirping in here saying I must have missed the lungs or it was a bad shot. Let me remind you that I found the deer I know exactly where I hit him. I'm not even sure how I missed the heart other then the broadhead was vertical and passed next to it. The heart definitely was intact but both lungs were shredded. Since I switched to expandables a few years ago I've shot 3 bucks and 6 does and a fox with the reapers all with quick kills and amazing results. I believe the longest distance I had one travel was about 80 yards. I have also used just one head for 3 of those kills and another for 2 others. I've shot one doe and I was less than satisfied and the head was destroyed. These are facts of my experience and my opinion. Side note a teenager by me missed a doe the other day and in his excitement grabbed an arrow that he had for small game with a field tip and shot the doe. Hit in the heart with a clean shot and piled her up in less than 50 yards. Moral of that story is a accurate shot is better than any broad head. One last complaints about the rage broad heads. They make a lot of noise. Apparently there is this shock collar that you can buy that helps but I had to put a little tape on them while in my quiver to eliminate that noise -
I'm a big fan of hunting with a 223 but you have to know its limitations. From what you are describing I would go with the 308. 308 has more range and a lot more ummmphhhh. I use my 223 for shots under a 100 yards usually closer to under 50 from the places I sit. You don't exactly have to be a sniper to put one in the goody box from 50 yards!

Rage 2 blade vs Grim Reaper 3 blade
Guns&ReligionCop replied to Guns&ReligionCop's topic in Bow Hunting
Definitely right about the REapers not feeling as sharp out of the box but the new ones with the razor tips came sharper. The older ones I hit with the sharpener before I used them. Nothing comes as sharp as my old thunder heads!!!! -
I show have also threw up my PA buck this year on there

Rage 2 blade vs Grim Reaper 3 blade
Guns&ReligionCop replied to Guns&ReligionCop's topic in Bow Hunting
Also the rage broad head broke. I also recovered another deer in the area with a rage broad head that the blade was bent beyond repair from hitting the leg bone. The rage definitely do not have the strength that Reapers do. -
Rage 2 blade vs Grim Reaper 3 blade
Guns&ReligionCop replied to Guns&ReligionCop's topic in Bow Hunting
Geno it was a double lung shot, It obviously hit vitals or the deer wouldn't have died. I'll post the pic of the shot after I get back from work. Obviously any good shot will kill a deer but some heads are definitely better and more effective than others and My opinion is that The grim reapers are a lot more effective. -
So last year I purchased the Rage 2 blade 2" cut from a guy of here for a really good price and figured I would give it a shot. I've had nothing but success with the Grim reapers with a 100% recovery rate but the price was right. So this year I got my first doe with a Rage. It was a double shot just behind the heart. That deer ran for close to half mile bleeding but never what you would expect with size of a wound through the chest. The second doe I shot with the reaper the shot was the above the heart and shattered the far shoulder dropping the doe in about 20 feet. Needless to say when I shot my buck I had the reaper on my string. I had a quartering away shot that arrow sliced the liver into the chest and shattered the far front leg killing the deer practically instantly. I'll use the rage still as long as I have them but I definitely will be sticking with the grim reapers!

Had disturbing experience last monday that hopefully this little story can help some people out on this site by creating a little awareness. My father who is pretty fit for an older gent and has decades of experience felling trees had a dead tree snap half way up come back and crushed him. Fortunately he is alive but broke his back in 5 places, snapped a rib and damaged his kidney. I know must of us realize the dangers of a chain saw and felling timber but added danger that he didn't anticpate was what happens after an injury. He didn't have his radio or phone but only his handgun. We all go by the 3 shot distress sysmtem on the MT but When the tree hit him it knocked his gun out of his holster and buried it in the mud. After regaining consciousness he pulled himself to his 4 wheeler and pulled himself up and was able to lay on it to make a slow drive to get help before passing out. The most experienced in the world can have a sudden accident like that occur and in case it comes back to always being prepared. First aid kit, radio, phone, and if possible someone else as well as prayer to whatever god you serve JIC!

Biz, With all the money you spend on guided hunts and leases, have you ever just consider buying your own piece of paradise? Obviously no Mt Lions, and Mule deer and all that crazy stuff you do but theres something incredibly gratifying but a DIY especially on your land. Just food for thought.

So what I'm making out from this is no crossbow hunting in NY this year.

I did see someone post something about ShawnHu playing ping-pong which I assume was an attack on him being asain, Thats uncalled for. Theres absolutely no reason to attack anyones race here! That and he probably sucks at ping-pong anyway :-P
