  1. I've never made such a shot and dont plan to either. After the scrutiny this site likes to dish out, would you? Actually yes, but I don't take head shots. Everyone makes mistakes and thats why I allow myself a little more room for error and pass on a lot of shots that I don't like and I'm very proud to say that I haven't wounded a deer since I was a teenager, which made me sick to my stomach knowing I was responisble for a shot that I should have been more patient to take. So I hope that you continue your success but if something did go wrong and you admitted it, for what its worth, I would at very least respect your merrit for that.
  2. I use to sight in a 300 mag and load ammo for this old guy up the street. Thing kicked like MOFO and was way to much gun for around these parts. I would go with a 270, 308, 30.06 for long range shots on a whitetail here. Your shoulder ears and wallet will thank you!
  3. I good shot with a gun or bow never takes 30+ mins, If you even nick the heart or double lung its dead on its feet and won't be going very far. I don't agree with your headshot tactics but to each there own, It's legal. I'm just curious if you will share the story of the deer flipping around in pain after that one shot you pulled or the time it moved at the last second and ran away with half its face destroyed
  4. Unlike gun season in NY, archery season deer are a lot easier to pattern because they aren't feeling the pressure of hunting and male deer chasing plus its light out a lot longer. You're going to get ticks on you no matter what you do. Just look for the bull eyes and any inbedded in you
  5. BELO, Thats were we should start at least. Honestly they do it for the elderly and handicap then I bow out of this argument all together. I'm really don't care what implements others use but as long as all hunters are accomadated for their physical limitations I'm satisfied.
  6. Injuries weren't severe? Split head and a broken nose while the person is still on top of you isn't severe? Do you need to be put in a coma first maybe a few missing teeth? The severity of the injuries is kinda of arbitrary but the perceived threat is definitely there. Is it enough to create reasonable doubt in my mind, yes.
  7. I doubt zimmerman gave it fore thought. He felt brave because he had a gun and determined to follow this suspicious young man not expecting the any confrontation let alone one where he was on his back getting beat. Regardless of how he got into the situation at the point that he fired his weapon in self defense. His actions prior is where you can argue manslaughter which the prosecution failed to do.
  8. Early, He didn't just slay an unarmed boy. The unarmed boy was a tough young man that was beating the snot of Zimmerman who was pudgy wimp.
  9. I'm still waiting for a anti-cross bow person to make a valid arguement why not to allow it. A bunch of speculation and opinions. I still think the most important reason to allow it is for the handicap or elderly.
  10. "Law is free of emotion" Regardless of Zimmerman being guitly or innocent its the prosecutions job to get a Jury to decide if he has commited a crime beyond a reasonable doubt which I feel they have not adequately done. There are to many "what ifs" in this case to have even attempted a murder charge and they should have tried to prove a manslaughter case. I think the way this case was handled it would be a disgrace of our justice system to get a conviction here as the evidence is underwhelming.
  11. I invite any of you anti-crossbow people to pick up a crossbow and come and try and out shoot me with my compund. Crossbows are big, loud and clumsy with the advantages they have they also have disadvantages. Unless your using a homemade long bow with wooden arrows and stone tips your argument holds little water. I don't use a scope on my shotgun so should I cry that I want scopes illegal during shotgun season?
  12. Belo, on 08 Jul 2013 - 16:57, said: so you wouldn't be mad if I shot a fawn off my deck in shotgun only 8f with a 300 win mag in July? right? I wouldn't care, In fact I think the shotgun rule is stupid and is written by people that don't comprehend ballistics. I support crossbow hunters even though I'm not going to use one. I deal with it in PA and the only change I've seen are some smug archery hunters that think they are better because they use a bow and they usually get put in their place by someone that hunts with a longbow or recurve! Most of the guys I know using them are older fellas that can't keep it going with a bow.
  13. Are you looking for archery purposes or rifle? I use to totally different range finders depending on the instrument
  14. If it was my child he would have already been sent to meet jesus
  15. Welcome, Archery is a great hobby. My best advice read as much you can and get a bow that you feel really comfortable with. Before you spend a lot of money get recommendations on what others use and why and then make up your own mind because trial and error can be very costly in this sport. I don't shoot 3D so I have my bow set up for hunting. If you want to know what I use and why just ask. Theres quite a few LI hunters here
  16. The unlicensed part the Officer got correct but the Misspelling of the name could get the ticket thrown out. In NYC thats grounds for dismissal but I don't know up by you.
  17. Good read but I compare his research methods simiular to that of the show myth busters, a little science mixed witha little opinion. Good post
  18. I don't have that bow but I have the Martin Moab and it has a lot of similuar features that I like.
  19. I got to go pick them up still but when I do I'll post Pics
  20. You maybe the first person I have ever heard of that prefers the worst cuts of meat on a deer to the best but heck, to each their own.
