  1. I'm pretty sure I said I like the challenge of finding older animals(nothing about size) and I also believe I said something along the lines of being able to tell if a deer is legal with out much difficulty not the exact amount of points but apparently thats not how it was translated. I guess back the poor eye sight thing :-P A few years ago I wrote an article about the size of the hunt not the size of the horn. In summary I stated that a great hunt isn't reflect upon your trophy in others eyes but your own. Now for some that might mean pope and young size bucks others it might be a little basket 6 but for all it should be the quality of what they did in the woods. I also have written about hunting for whats in your area not what tv programs with people like Larry Weishun call a trophy. All I heard from any of these antler restriction people are the fact that it makes it more of a challenge and how hard it is to tell if its legal. I believe its much more of a challenge but completely disagree that it is all that difficult to determine a legal deer.
  2. I never have said anything about the size of the deer other than being legal and being able to identify what your shooting. Seems like you guys have your mind made up and don't like any other opinions and thats fine. Regardless of how any of us feel antler restrictions are spreading like wild fire and they will be in area near you soon. If you think about it there have always been now they are just a little more defined. Before it was deer, then deer with and without antlers, then deer without or less than 3" and deer with 3" or longer now its deer without and deer with at least 3 pts on one side. I don't think shooting something with only 3 pts on oneside makes me a huge trophy hunter but I do try to do the best I can with what I got. Shooting a spike buck would mean that much to me, I rather shoot a fat doe and let that little fella live a day or two longer or a kid that deer would mean the world to. If I only only cared about horn I wouldn't have 6 does tages for this fall
  3. Don't think I said any of that. a little over EXAGGERATION on your part. More agruing that his argument is BS and has nothing do with truth. If your summary of my quote is how it came out to you, you read it wrong
  4. ahhhh did I hurt your feelings because my opinion and the way I like to hunt is different then yours. I'm sorry that you feel so self conscious about the way that you hunt that you feel beneath someone that strives to do better and gets the more out of a hunt then you who embraces mediocrity. IF sarcasm is all you have to argue Antler Restrictions you are a PUTZ
  5. I use the bungee cords too, I drive around with mine in the trailer and would hate to see my stuff blowing out of the back scattered down the highway!!
  6. I would say I have better eyes! Because if you're hunting dense cover like you claim then you're up close and personal and should have no problem making out a few points(Might have poked a hole in your own story). Possibly you don't like antler restriictions because you like brown its down hunting. Even doe hunting I just don't blast away for meat. I prefer the challenge of an old wise doe with a hooked nose and sagging belly. I enjoy hunting and the challenge of hunting older smarter animals. Anything else just seems like an excuse for someone that doens't like hunting as much as killing. You would possibly see more than once in blue moon bucks that you knew were legal if you didn't shoot the first thing that you saw!!
  7. I've hunted PA my entire life. The recent antler restrictions have only increased the quality of deer and I have never had a problem determing if it was legal. If its that small that you can't tell wait for something a little bigger. You won't see to many spikes with a 16" spread
  8. My dad made a mount that he could attach a camera to one of his rifles and his crossbow. Seems to work pretty good
  9. I use a tote and put dirt and pine needles on the bottom then I have a piece of peg board sitting on top of a few 1x2's so my cloths are safe from the sap and dirt but allows the scent to rise through. Its easy to keep organized since I hunt in several different locations.
  10. You have pretty sweet deer, I'm far from brown its down but I wouldn't pass up either. I don't live in South Texas
  11. Last year I was shooting a few dozen arrows a day from 30-40 yards. I got my buck about 8 yards away. Come to think of it other over the last few years my longest shot was about 18 yards. I never practice shooting sitting down either and all of my deer have been shots while sitting.
  12. Well safety isn't the biggest issue if your hunting party knows not to shoot the 2 legged deer dressed in orange
  13. I assumed that a political section was politics related to hunting and hunting regulation even firearms being that it was a hunting website, not conspiracy theories. I don't know why I keep this thread but I'm more intrested in reading your debates than the actual topic.
  14. Hunting humans? Is this why this is on a hunting forum? Will this effect my late season muzzleloader?
  15. Because its a blast!!! and its good practice for a more meaningful bird and it starts a month sooner than other things!
  16. Hello & welcome. I'm hunting up by you but I usually stay over in 3C by Cranberry Mountain. I'm pretty sure on state land you are not allowed to leave anything over night and you can't use things like screw in steps etc... that cause degregation to the land. That being said last year I saw about a dozen stands on state game land chain to trees. Remember opening day bow is also opening day for small game and you will be competing with that. The first day of Archery isn't as competitive as shotgun season in that aspect but I wait a few days until the bird hunters relax a little. Do you pheasant hunt?
  17. Just don't really like it. I like when a deer is doing its thing and I hunt it or figure out where it is, not a bunch of guys kicking everything in the woods towards me. I don't think its unethical I just think it puts a lot of pressure in the woods and totally breaks deer of any kind of normal behavior so you have to resort to as I call them "Rifle Season tactics" Thats another reason I prefer to archery hunt. I frown upon it because in my opinion its less like hunting. That being said I'm guilty of doing it in the past myself but now I would only do it now to help a youth increase his chances. I wouldn't do it myself
  18. I wouldn't mind a death blow to the good old fashioned deer drive as I have never been a fan and always kinda frowned upon it even if I have never been vocal because its only my opinion.
  19. Doc, you have to remember you don't have to count total points it just has to have 3 on one side helping the spikes and little Y bucks live a year longer to make a nicer looking deer. Yes is not an exact science as I thought that I shot a 8 pt last year but it was only a 7 pt. Remember You only need 3 pts on one side so you can possibly shoot a deer with only one antler as long as it has 3 pts on one side its legal. I clearly saw the G2, G3, G4 so I knew my deer was legal. Listen I know we are all human and make mistakes but it is really not difficult to tell what your shooting at even if you don't have the exact size and point count. The fact that you only need one side makes it easier not more difficult. If you are a meat hunt and don't care about rack size thats fine but there are plenty of doe's out there to shoot. Just remember the does are the ones with no points so you still have to be aware of what you are shooting at.
  20. You have that property in West Chester NY you would easily get $20 mil
  21. I waste a sock or underware because I seem to always forget paper when I need it most
  22. in my area I have seen 1/2 acre $250,000 2 1/2 acres $250,000 and 4 acres $500,000 and I'm an hour north of the city. If he's a reired Nassau cop he most likely is a very well off and this is going to be his retirement home or vacation place. I highly doublt he's trying to open a public range but best of luck to you if you try to stop him from using it as his own private range. Try to become his friend or count your losses. Sorry
