Gonna be warm next 2 days. On vacation and trying to not over pressure the plot. Going tomorrow evening for a sit. Trying to save the burn for my buddy and crossbow this weekend Sent from my D6708 using Tapatalk -
New to NY looking for good public land around Onieda County
zeus1gdsm replied to brad85's topic in Bow Hunting
As a fellow oneida County relative. I'm sad to say that what state land we have is pretty pressured. I'd recommend hitting up the farms just south of new Hartford asking permission Sent from my D6708 using Tapatalk -
Rocking mid weight merino people socks and heavy weight wigwam merino socks. People socks are just as good as smartwool in my eyes and I have multiple pairs of both for backpacking. I wear light weight wool socks on 80* days backpacking in the summer. Plus you get 3 extra pairs for the price of one smartwool pair. People socks. Made in USA. Sent from my D6708 using Tapatalk

Went with the 2kgs went to three different stores. Tried them with my thickest pair of wool dedicated hunting socks. Felt great. Going out tomorrow evening so we shall see Sent from my D6708 using Tapatalk

Good point on the long distances. Fortunately my main location is only a 5-10minute walk to stands. Leaning towards tole 2000g. Maybe go with my normal size rather than a size up and go with one pair of heavy wool socks Sent from my D6708 using Tapatalk

So is that with one or two pairs of heavy socks? Sent from my D6708 using Tapatalk

I should add that this is only my second dedicated hunting boot purchase I'll have the 800 and then whatever I guess so I'm tempted to just go 2000 and then if they don't work I'll find a happy medium somewhere on my next purchase Sent from my D6708 using Tapatalk

So I had a massive boot cracking leak on me this morning. On top of the 800g insulation and heavy wool socks not keeping my toes warm I'm looking to up the insulation factor and get new boots. Found these so far. Right inside my 100$ budget for boots. I like the rubber boot concept as that's what I've used previously and a piece of land I have access to is predominantly swamp so that good 12-16 inches of waterproof protection provided by rubber is awesome and gives piece of mind. However it's not needed on an average day. Does anyone have experience with cold toes and going up in insulation? My toes say go for the 2000g rubbers however they will require 2 pairs of socks to prevent a sloppy fit The 1000g non rubbers feel good and are insulated throughout where as the rubbers are only the foot. So that 1000g is more spread out My current 800g rubbers have never done a good job of keeping my toes from going numb. Even with toe warmers and heavy socks. Should I just go 2000? Or at that point is it just marketing? There is a huge difference in boot thickness between the 2kg rubbers and the same model in 1kg. The 2kgs look goofy but I'm not in it for fashion Sent from my D6708 using Tapatalk

What happened to the Xbow inclusion thread?
zeus1gdsm replied to Steuben Jerry's topic in CrossBow Hunting
Just a thought..... But could a full inclusion of crossbow be detrimental for the deer pop in general? Bow hunting takes place primarily pre rut. Could a huge increase in deer takings prior to rut lead to a further reduced deer population due to a lack of deer to repopulate during the rut. to maintain current numbers? I could see this at my property where the neighbors blast anything with hooves and go out 6 guys at a time each weekend. Lots of yearlings taken each year. I think we all agree more open crossbow access will put alot more hunters in the field. Sent from my D6708 using Tapatalk -

After seeing my gun only hunting buddy pick up a new crossbow and drill quarter sized groups at 40yards with a stock sniper 370. He had assembled it wrong and I had to reassemble it for him. he shot like that with no prior experience. 2 shots to dial in at 20 yards. I immediately understood why people are against it. I work all summer almost every day on form, muscle memory and shooting balance to not even get groups that good. There is a skill in compound hunting not as much as traditional or recurve obviously. I feel that extra practice and dedication is deserving of special time. That said I'd be okay with the season being split down the middle. And you can bet I'll be getting a crossbow to use during the crossbow only season. I see the crossbow as a much better and precise tool. Why use a hand screwdriver when I can use a drill. In the stand. Lil late. Prefer s full hour before sunrise. Only got 45mins Sent from my D6708 using Tapatalk -
I haven't been in since Thursday last week so I'm hoping the cold morning will push something my way. Better wind day for deer coming out of bedding area as well Sent from my D6708 using Tapatalk
-
Wind doesn't matter so much with the stands I have. I'm looking at it strictly in terms of before or during cold snap Sent from my D6708 using Tapatalk
-
I'm thinking weds morning as it's before the temp drop. As opposed to hunting Thursday morning which is the nastiest day of the week. Sent from my D6708 using Tapatalk

I have weds and Thursday morning hunts available to me this week... I don't want to hunt both as I'm trying to minimize pressure until my vacation. Which one? Weds or Thursday am? Sent from my D6708 using Tapatalk
