  1. Late ‘70s learned on a dump truck.... that was interesting ,more so for the other drivers though . Motorcycles as well, although using the clutch wasn’t always necessary if you knew how to control the R s , I first learned that after sliding through an intersection and breaking the clutch handle .
  2. Yep, I guess I misunderstood . If I can wear one thin layer under I’d be happy . My body is a highly regulated machine after all ,I should’d need to much under , in fact when I die it’s being donated to the U of R medical school ! Think of the excitement the students will have with a perfect specimen! Along with the cures it’ll, lead to ! Ill instruct my attorney to, give my Sitka to Biz .
  3. Load and go, gut elsewhere , rookie .
  4. I’m on the fence , I can get Sitka at 40% off and still I’m hesitant, I do, need new bibs though . Im happy to see you don’t wear much underneath, I asked another member what he wore under his jacket , Merino wool, base, Sitka hoody, Sitka vest, Sitka bibs under his jacket . Well that’s more layers then the cheap stuff I wear , I was hoping to get an answer like yours . If I’m dropping the $$$ I shouldn’t have to wear as many layers , your experience is encouraging. The bibs not being water proof is a turn off though Cabellas has a highly rated pair that is waterproof I’ve been considering.
  5. I enjoy it too . Most years I find a few, 5-8 or so , I walk a couple hours here and there maybe 15-20 hours total .
  6. I sent for two, one for the landowner, but apparently I didn’t complete the transaction, as I never got confirmation or a CC charge . I was telling Mrs Nomad this when she said ,I was in luck as she bought me one which is in route ! For that I told her she was now at #4 but trending upwards.
  7. Tip,of the camo hat to all who made it out this AM, not this fella . Perhaps tomorrow afternoon as they always move after the storm . With luck my new sweatshirt will arrive by then .
  8. I have two, but seldom use them as much as I thought I would . The farm has plenty , and they feel elevated is much better . They offered to put mine up on phone polls, but I like the option of moving them , and don’t feel handicapped as is . The green one may have been built by my guys, on a night shift in the firehouse , but I’ll deny that ..... I do enjoy camping out of the green one as well , you have to share it with a boat load of bugs and mice though .
  9. And to think I was pissed when the Monkeys peed on my car at the Lion Safari place !
  10. I’m still reveling in the joy and excitement, of taking that small doe ! Thursday afternoon , we shall see what happens .
  11. Wolc special ! Haven’t seen such tiny backstraps in sometime ! But they’ll taste great . When we drive any safe shot is taken , we don’t walk an hour through mud to let small ones walk. Well that’s not correct , THIS YEAR that apples .lol With 30# from Joes buck and some of his Elk , we’re ok meat wise now . Ill be out again late season . No slick heads this time .
  12. Gus the deer tracking Beagle was finally happy the other night ! Each night upon my return he runs out to smell the truck and myself , then walks off in pity .
  13. Long stand, where joe shot at doe 330 yards away with a gun that’s good to 150... Kathys stand ( one of three that make up the triangle it’s B ) Thick brush stand triangle stands A,B,C Every deer will see you stand , to be moved soon ..... Waste of time stand , also to be moved other spots, gas well field, half a bean field ( small 14 acre field ) , the intersection , the infamous site of three buck kills in 2000 ! big creek bed , small creek bed ,abandoned house ,Kenny’s woods, Jones woods , the slope
  14. Three guys , two walk it , one on each side the third sets up on the far end ,or farther away , where they run to . Frankly I’d be comfortable with just two ,one on each side . Yesterday I posted an old hunt where I had my 14 y/o daughter walk an over grown drainage ditch , and drove a 7 pt right to me . Can’t use dogs in this state , kids make a pretty fair alternative. 40 yards wide is a really wide hedgerow . I really like the wind up alarm clock idea .
  15. Congrats ! I’m envious, for thirty some years ,I’ve walked out to my truck , knowing that those hunting around me are already home ,and I’ve got a forty minute drive to go , and back again in 12 hours .
  16. I’ve always been amazed at those who aren’t prepared , for much of any type of mild disruption , be it a shortage or snowstorm . I could tell stories for hours just from work alone . The other day picking up a deer, 1,000 foot off the road in a muddy field, my buddy asked me why I had a shovel in the truck ! Lol there’s one in my wife’s car and both our daughters, along with blankets , flares , first aid kits , spare cash . You either roll that way or you don’t ,apparently. Guns require ammo, flashlights ,batteries , we eat food , some folks only take cash for their work , it’s prudent to have a stash of these and more on hand . Im down to about a dozen 1lb green propane tanks , I just switched over to my spare 20lb tank on the grill, so today I’ll resupply those , as well as replenish some items in our panty, When I need a new furnace filter, I don’t run to Lowe’s, I grab one off the stack next to the furnace . Price gouging is a made up term by the Government used to placate those that don’t understand basic economics, along with those that don’t think it’s prudent to stock up at low prices . I criticize no man or business for selling a legal product at a price they set, I’ll exercise my freedom by buying from them or not . Ive bought from “ gougers “ before happily ! They had what I wanted when no one else did , its a tax one pays for getting caught with their pants down .
  17. I hope 4 days is enough . I watched deer run a half a mile cresting a hill in a green field , and knowing that there’s well over another half mile before any cover , after one guy walked through some brush . Not sure these deer will be relaxed in a few days .
  18. Thank you ! I had my chances , far fewer but they were there , and I did wine a bit ,then I put things in proper perspective. Year may have been a blessing in the long run .
  19. Wrap up . Joe said his phone showed we did 15000 paces yesterday. 15000 yards Is like 7 miles, I’m sure it was half that ,due to shorter strides in mud fields . Picked up my doe from Uncle Charlie ( processor who I know well and love ! ) he said wtf happened to, you , you normally being me two slammers a year , shoot a bigger one, I could use the money ! Lol then he gave me a break on the price ,thank you ! I may get out late season ,anything is on the table . freezer is ok for my worst year since ‘93 .
  20. Last idk 10 or 15 years ive just worn Muck boots , mostly for the easy on / off and crossing ditches filled with water . One pair of socks, it’s not like we hunt in really cold temps . They are fine . I may look at Dryshod .
  21. Wow you’re determined . I may get out once or twice , after a break , God willing and the creek don’t rise . Perhaps after it snows mid week .
  22. If anyone is interested in pulling a Larry, PM me . I couldn’t hold out any longer on saying that .....
