    You know my sob story . 32 years on this spot , it was always easy pickings through gun . fewest sightings in bow season ever . Last few years I said gun hunts like bow , deer walking around in daylight etc . this year I’ve seen 4 all of gun and I hunted a lot, 7 stands 2 huts all in proven spots , on routes to / from cover . 8H Cand./ Bloomfield s area last year two nice bucks , I had my pick of them .

    And don’t fill their gas tank till it’s a couple needle widths above E , have little or no cash on them , and have little more than a couple weeks of food , at home .

    It’s great my friend let me hunt his land, but each time I do , I wish I brought my chainsaw ! Why mow around the field if you can’t shoot into the lanes ? Heres my view of the lane in front and behind me .

    Few doe popping in and out golden rod , and what looked like a young buck working it . We shall see .

    Every time I’ve sat here I thought , “ he really needs to cut those branches , they block shots down the lane .” And now I just had a doe standing broadside there that I couldn’t shoot !

    8J in the AM ,landowner is in FLA and the owners of the mirror image land are born agains and don’t hunt Sunday’s , fortunately I’m neither !

    You don’t need bow privilege to use a crossbow, you need ML privilege. It’s good to, go in late ML season , this year Dec 14- 22nd .

    Just checked some records ,last time I didn’t get a deer was ‘93 , but in 2,000 I shot three bucks ,one in bow and two eights in back to back days in gun , from the same spot . Im not sure that was legal, which seems odd as I don’t use others tags and I play be the rules , ,hopefully the statute of limitations is up .

    Let’s not forget the Webster and Irondequoit town bow hunts . I took the first deer in the first Webster hunt btw , and was asked this year if I wanted in the Irondequoit hunt . Webster you have to be a town resident, but it does not appear so for Irondequoit, although they want guys who can hunt a lot and during the week days .

    Interesting , I think I could count on one hand the number of trucks I’ve seen parked along the road this gun season and I’ve been out most days ,sadly . I saw my first hunter, yesterday, a guy in camo no less walking the property line .

    Actually old steel Schlitz cans . My friends family owned parts from Vosburg North between the RR tracks and the creek almost to Lake road . Ive killed a few in there in days past . We used to gun hunt there !

    It’s good to measure the height of the blood on the trees ,as it’s another piece of the puzzle . I know the top of my knee cap, when in boots is 22 inches more or less. The sweet spot on a deer vitals runs 20-24 inches , a few inches either way can be a difficult recovery . The one I tracked was leaving blood at 23 inches or so . The Book Dead On, is a wealth of info on deer recovery and should be in every hunters library.

    I’m in Webster , I’m willing to see it doesn’t get older . lots of hunting here, including the town hunt . I did loose my spots close by, Lowe’s , Wilink middle school , then finally around the town barn .

    Shot my first compound a Golden Eagle , fingers, one brass pin sight , a flipper rest , five inch feathers , two, blade Magus . Used that bow for 18 years from 1989 to 2008 . Have no,idea what let off it was .

    This snow has been beneficial in spotting squirrels and fox .

    I’ve been hearing the shortened season argument for not allowing crossbows for close to 30 years . Can you name a state where that’s happened ? Hasn’t Ohio had them in all of archery for well over 30 years , with no change in season length? I don’t follow it as close as you do .

    Rolling out of bed , still some snow cover here, don’t know about at my spot though . Heated vest all charged . Almost to that if “ it’s brown it’s down ,” level .

    Some 9 yr old blended Canadian used to hunt snakes in AZ .little stuffed alligator from Cuba , from before embargo congrats tree guy

    Sitting in my gun room , sipping whiskey, listening to the blues , first hunt in awhile in 12 hours !
