  1. Already covered but; get out there and get hunting, just make sure there's someone to help. Possible tracking, gutting, dragging, hanging, skinning, etc... It's all going to be very difficult alone.
  2. Well, I certainly do my part. I just stay logged in.
  3. where are they in NY? Haven't heard of any in the Hudson Valley or Catskills. No reports of them when we had our place in Stratford up until last year either. From what I hear from my friends down south we definitely don't want 'em.
  4. Idiots are everywhere. There should be some way to identify jerks that do that and pull their licenses for life. I know, pie in the sky stuff, but it'd be nice. Idiots that don't know/follow safe practices are menaces and perfect arguments to support retroactive abortion.
  5. Not one of those old time Woolrich ones? Man, I had a suit of those when I was young. Wanna talk HEAVY?!? Then throw on a pair of Micky Mouse boots and we're talking major cardio workout, especially if it it rains and that sob gets wet! That happened to me more times than I care to remember. I remember once that happened and then it snapped cold, and I mean cold. After sitting for a few hours I went to get up to start hunting my way out and my suit was literally ice, but I was still warm. Heavy as he&&, but warm. Not so much for visibility/safety though.
  6. I'm on dist. for the DEC Press Releases - probably the same thing just different sources.
  7. That's true, but even left as is, there will ALWAYS be healthy, older, larger and dominant bucks. They have always been there, they will always be there. The way it is now though they actually do have to be somewhat superior and smart enough to survive to get that big. With ARs the genetically inferior deer will actually be able to get bigger.
  8. Probably accurate but I still believe they are simply interested in revenue generation. Weather a 1.5 yo or a 2.5+ yo is breeding the does, there's still going to be a healthy deer herd next year, and for generations to come.
  9. Yep. NY is not NY everywhere. I had 30 acres in Stratford, NY for some years and live in Dutchess County. Wanna talk about night and day differences!
  10. Fair enough. I'll respect your opinion even though I don't think the state should have a right to regulate that kind of thing. If someone owns x number of acres and wants to say "on my land... yada yada yada" then I've no issue with that. As my other post said, they aren't interested in us, they're interested in revenue generation.
  11. Phenomenal for what/who though? The deer population has survived for a LOT of years with no ARs. ARs serve two purposes as far as I can tell. 1) Making it easier for the average person to get a wallhanger. Result: More license sales = more $ for the state 2) More big bucks = more/better chance to attract out of state wallhanger hunters = more out of state sales = more $ for the state. hmmm, I think there may be a pattern developing. ;-) They don't care about us. Take ANY politician and what they are interested in is how to further line their pockets while making the people *think* they are about us. lol <spoken somewhat tongue in cheek, but semi-serious>
  12. I got that notice as well. Should be interesting if they publish the results. I'd think they would. I may not of read right, but I don't recall seeing that stated in the note.
  13. I don't believe that I ever specified any ages. I used terms such as older and younger which most individuals would be able to recognize, are not literal but rather subjective. Judging from your replies, it seems that your prime goal is being argumentative vs attempting to have a grown up reasonable discussion. Fool me once...
  14. I saw the benefit of blaze orange while hunting around Tobyhanna in NE PA. I was standing on top of a "mountain" in a powerline. The line went straight, down one "mountain" through the valley, up over another "mountain" and another valley, then up again to where I clearly saw a guy in blaze orange. He had to be 3/4 of a mile away and I could clearly see the blaze. And that's with no snow down.
  15. I agree. Diet has a huge affect on the meat flavor. No way a deer who has been feeding on acorns, twigs, etc is gonna taste the same as those living around farms and eating corn, soy beans, etc. Good point.
  16. Caveat: Gun season as I can't do bow. Blaze orange camo hat, coat, and bib overalls. Have 'em walk right up to me in some cases. As already said, movement and your face are probably the main things that bust ya from a sight point of view.
  17. Relative noob here too but welcome!
  18. Could be fishing I suppose. No need to log back on to see how many got hooked in the chin so we may never know and he/she/them could be sitting there getting their highs off of rabble-rousing for some strange reason. This thread along with the "Ellenville" and "Minnewaska" threads to raise some suspicion, I gotta agree.
  19. I understand your points and it's nothing about $, at least in my case and it's also not about size, it's about personal preferences. It's not the same as comparing a 3" trout to a 18". Two deer can be the same physical size and have massively different head gear depending on genetics and food supply. We can debate all night and day and never come to any consensus of agreement. That's why I support putting it to a vote based on DMU and let the majority decide, not some money grubbing politician who are only interested in who's putting money in their pockets. We, the sportsmen should decide.
  20. Wow, leave for one day and what a flood! lol Why is is though that there are always some who feel they must berate others in some way if others don't happen to have the same views, opinion, or ideas? It seems to me that adults should understand that people see, hear, feel, and taste things differently. Some are ticklish, some aren't. Some like blue, some don't. Ever taste something that tasted like it'd gone bad but someone else taste it and they think it's fine? Everybody has their own opinion, and to them, it's the right one. Expounding that someone is wrong simply because you don't agree is absurd. In my case, I can tell the difference between an older, tougher piece of meat than a younger more tender less gamey piece of meat. People have tried blind taste tests on me. Now, that said; I don't cook venison steak to death. I cook it medium rare and it's not flavored with everything else under the sun. Salt and pepper, hot pan, medium rare - done. As for my cooking skills, I've been in the kitchen for over 50 years and can certainly hold my own with most people. How about simply voicing your opinion in a non-berating tone in the future rather than resorting to lowlife personal attacks on people whom you have no idea in the world who you're dealing with. People aren't wrong simply because they state something that you happen to not agree with.
  21. Not a thing. I've actually said before in this forum that I *prefer* does and I do focus on them but I still have a buck tag and would much prefer a younger, typically smaller racked buck versus an older bigger one. Why should I be forced to pass on spikes etc so others can hang antlers on their walls?
  22. I don't believe I said any such thing. There's no such thing as a blanket "all" kind of statement. All I said was that currently if you want the big boys you usually have to put a lot of time and effort into finding them. Granted there are those who by luck just have one walk by but to continually get big deer it requires work. ARs diminish that requirement which, IMO is why most people that favor ARs, do so. A bit touchy?
  23. I prefer younger deer as I focus on meat and the younger deer are less tough and milder in flavor. So I should be punished because some he-man wants to show how great he is by hanging a big rack on his wall? Do whats right for the deer population.
  24. Sadly, a lot of people both young and old are addicted to their "smart" phones. Interpersonal skills are in the toilet, but people can sure type fast with their thumbs. Don't own one, don't intend to.
