  1. dat a biiiiiiiiiiiiiig boy....
  2. Happy Birthday, I hope you're having a great one.
  3. I don't understand how people who do things like that are able to sleep.
  4. Well, they stay away from his apple trees.
  5. A bit late but take a soda (pop) can, or something more to the wifes visual liking, put holes in it and shave Ivory Soap inside and hang from the tree. Deer won't bother them - apparently they don't like the smell if Ivory. At least that's according to a local commercial apple grower.
  6. What browsers and platforms are you guys using? Windows and Pale Moon (optimized Firefox) here and the icons and fonts, etc are working fine.
  7. Gotta be northern zone. Congrats.
  8. Ah you must be young. ;-) Unfortunately I'm unable to do that type of hunting anymore.
  9. I'm actively trying to find some private and work out an agreement with the owner for next year but I'm not holding out much faith that it'll happen. Every time I've surveyed the open land locally there have been a lot of vehicles parked at the access locations and I just refuse to put myself in harms way in that kind of environment. I haven't been to Fahnestock or Taconic areas for a long time for those reasons. Things may have improved but I doubt it. Fahnestock also requires a special permit (200 max the last knew) and they have to be long gone for this year. I don't know if it will help you but I have a package of "apps" from the DEC that are Google Earth based that you can download and unzip and use. One of them is a DEC Land app which shows you the land and description of all DEC areas in New York State. There's a post on the site somewhere on it but it's probably buried 40 pages down. ;-) http://www.mediafire.com/download/u3wonaiqq636x13/DEC+Google+Earth+Apps.zip
  10. DS: When used properly, Sawyers works... period.
  11. lol - I really don't mean to laugh but I just couldn't help it. Trying to find something in Dutchess County that's less populated than the DCC Fair is about as likely as winning the lottery. Good luck though.
  12. Congratulations. You'll be able to relive those moments in your mind all of your days.
  13. LOL - haven't seen that in years. Thanks for the laugh.
  14. It should be legal to booby-trap your gear but unfortunately you'd be the one who was prosecuted and sued if some idiot got hurt while trying to steal it. <shaking head>
  15. I live in the area. Haven't heard "boo" about it. Something seems amiss. The hunting pressure in the area is brutal. IF it's in fact true, my $'d be on farm raised and paid big bucks (pun intended) for the wall candy.
  16. Congratulations! Great idea with the GE view and diagram. Not sure if it's been done here before but it's the first time I've seen that idea. Love it.
  17. Hopefully he'll do a drive-by for ya CH, good luck
  18. Photochopping something like that would be pretty low and should be easily detectable. I kinda doubt it.
  19. I envy you. I miss the days of being able to still hunt all day and *maybe* see one other person other than my Dad. True, you probably won't see as many deer as guys hunting farmland but you have huge tracts to roam by yourself. Given your scouting activity it also opens up the possibility of stalking one particular animal which is a blast. Frequently, they win as it's their territory but it can leave some of the greatest memories.
  20. I wouldn't worry about it either. When I was about 16 (think 40+ years ago) my .300 Savage 99E finish was coming off by the front of the comb so I decided to refinish it. Well, being young and stubborn, I just HAD to do what everyone else said to NOT do. Honestly, I don't recall the exact process I used but I painstakingly did it by hand and I remember about 30 coats of hand rubbed Linseed oil was in there, QUICKLY hit it with a stain and finished in a gloss. Long story short, if I'm hunting deer in rifle country, that's what I take and I've taking a LOT of deer with it. I wouldn't be real worried about the gloss finish I guess is the point. I suppose if the conditions were exactly perfect a bust would be possible, but highly unlikely. As always, to each their own. A lot would say I'm nutz for carrying this but I like it. <shrug>
  21. WOW, I had to leave town unexpectedly for a few days and come back to basically an entirely new site just based on all of the new posts and threads. It's gonna take days to just try and catch up! lol That's a nice problem to have though. The sight I left may of had 10 posts per day or so and I always wished it had a lot more activity. This one's amazingly active! But keeping up's gonna be a challenge! I'm going to a local Pumpkin' Chunkin' competition in a bit though so I suppose I shouldn't even try to catch up until later.
  22. I give up. The same things are simply being stated over and over and over. There will be no agreement as no one will switch positions. We'll all just have to deal with what the DEC comes up with.
  23. I don't believe I've given anyone grief for wanting to shoot a big deer. I give grief because they want to take my choice of shooting a spike or fork away from me so it can be easier for them to shoot a bigger deer. There are big deer out there now. They're shot every year. People may have to put more effort into getting them but that's the price of them. I just think it should be choice. You don't wanna shoot a spike? By all means, don't. But don't legislate that I can't. The deer herd is not in any jeopardy and even if it is, bucks are not how you control the herd. OH, and I believe the only threads I have voiced that opinion in are the threads where that's the subject matter so I don't know what to tell you if you have an issue with that.
  24. Not a thing. What's wrong with someone who's just as ok with a spike, fork or whatever?
