I don't see the archery endorsement listed anywhere though... not that I can do that any more, but that's not the point.

Just reg'd with no problem and it brought up my tags. I'd recommend keeping your current paper license and backtags for a LONG time just as proof. It said it didn't like the Pale Moon browser too but it worked fine.

Governor Announces Support for Crossbows in NY
bluecoupe replied to Tinlodge's topic in CrossBow Hunting
You have no idea how much I attempt to get people off of their a**es and get out to vote and how depressing it always is to see the turnout numbers after the elections. But that's not the purpose of the thread and I apologize for hijacking it. I'm not about to start a pro/con debate regarding crossbows either. ;-) But I will suggest that people who support their use or support enabling people who can't physically draw a compound being able to get back into the woods during archery season to write your State Assembly and Senate representatives. I agree with your sentiments and goals Doc but as I said earlier, the people on our side of the coin are either too stupid and/or lazy to go to the polls and vote or we don't have the numbers. The libtards have won in NYS for a LONG time. I can't believe, at least I hope that "our side" is not really that dumb or lazy so I have to believe that we just don't have the numbers. That said, I'll be voting right beside ya. Edit: http://www.elections.ny.gov/NYSBOE/enrollment/county/county_nov13.pdf -

I certainly didn't write any thank yous but I did write my assemblywoman and NYS Senator asking them to support it. If that's two-faced then I guess I'll live with that. Will I vote for the Emperor for Governor or POTUS? NFW, but I didn't vote for him in the first place but not writing simply because you don't happen to like someone and they are a "demonstrated enemy of the 2nd Amendment" makes zero sense. But again, it does NOT require any correspondence to him or his staff. I think you're letting hate obscure the vision of potentially getting something done, be he an a-hole or not. -
Not sure how accurate it is but probably ballpark: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/nerfc/graphics/snowmaps/html/snow_depth.html Have a good trip!

Does WPA ring a bell with anyone? How much you wanna bet that if the people on the dole actually had to go and DO SOMETHING to get that check, they'd have a real job real quick. Edit: I'm *NOT* saying that everyone on welfare is a sponge, just a large percentage.

Well, either they do have the numbers (as they keep winning) or it says that "our side" is too stupid/lazy to go to the poll and vote. Either way - it doesn't bode well for folks on "our side". But that's an entirely different discussion I suppose. -

As for the effort: Play like the politicians do; be nice to their face and take whatever you can get. Then when the time comes, do your best to stab them in the back and take them down. As for voting them out: While I agree in principle (and effort), sadly, in reality the libtards of the NYC Metro area, Albany and a couple more areas still have the votes to keep the giveaway crew in power - note the recent NYC mayoral race. -
Sorry to hear that! Been there and I agree, it's no fun at all. Do what you're told though 'cause that chit don't play around... Good luck!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all. Getting on big silver bird in the morning headed to someplace warm. I'll find out where she's taking me tomorrow. Somewhere in the Caribbean, that much I know. Be back next year.

The problem a lot of times is that by the time you realize that you want to hear them, the people who can relate them are gone.

Still had to eat the crud. And our dogs weren't allowed in the kitchen when we were eating.

greybeard, it got to the point where my Mother didn't even have to say the words, I knew the look. We had the "clean your plate" rule too. I absolutely HATED mushrooms as a kid. We didn't have a lot of money and one night dinner was hamburger in cream of mushroom soup over toast. I decided I could outlast 'em if I sat there long enough. Finally at about 10:30 that night I decided I had to eat the crud. Lemme tell you, cold chit on a shingle isn't very yummy. <shudder>

yeah, we always asked permission though to be respectful. As for getting hurt, landowners are NOT responsible if someone gets hurt hunting on their property and can NOT be sued unless the landowner intentionally created hazardous conditions. The majority of both hunters and landowners don't understand/believe this but it's the truth. Edit: As long as the hunters did NOT pay for access

Born in the mid-50's and raised in small-towns in NW PA. Had a bb gun when I was 5. Only allowed to shot it in my Dads presence for a long time though. Then I was allowed to setup a box filled with newspaper and target practice with it in the basement. From there, after the safety rules were beaten into my head (figuratively of course), I was allowed to take it outside to "hunt" salamanders, frogs, etc. Then onto the .22's etc. Guns were a part of life in that area back then, and still are to a large extent in that area even today. They tried keeping the schools open on opening day one year, no one showed up so they gave up. They're still closed opening day. It was common to leave the house after breakfast, meet up with friends and not show back up at the house until lunch or dinner time. No one worried and if you needed anything, you could go to the door of any house for help. "If you can't find something to do, I can find you something" were common words out of Mothers mouths back then. Very effective because you knew that they weren't an idle threat. When parents spoke back then, they meant it. They generally spoke once and if "whatever" wasn't heeded by the youngin's, there WERE immediate consequences, none of this "if I have to tell you once more"... there was only once period. Sass back or say "no"? Unheard of. I remember when I was about 15 I was going to assert my manhood and said "no" to my Father. The next thing I remember was picking myself up from the corner. Never did that again and turn him in? Never even considered it. He knew where I slept! lol - No worse for the wear though. You had chores to do and they'd just better be done without being told. We were allowed to watch 1 hour of tv a day, period. Kids were the remote control: "go outside and turn the antenna and stop when I tell you". Curfew was: "be home when the streetlights come on". Dinner was eaten by the whole family at the same time and at the same table, no exceptions. Good times back then and I wouldn't trade them for anything. A lot of that attitude still does exist but you have to get away from the cities and into rural America to find it.

yep, atv's work if you own the land. Oh - you mean for skinning probably. Gotcha

Well, hope you guys are having a great time up there. -
Makes sense if you're close to the skinning/processing place but if you've got a long drag just to get to the car - not really feasible. I've actually seen guys skin 'em using a car - never done it myself though
-
It had to be still fairly warm for the skin to "leave" that easily which is probably the main factor. At least that's my guess.

OH, You doin' any fishing in the lake while you're there? If you have your own tackle you can fish there all year long and the Chef will cook up your catch for you. -

Great place. Took my wife there for the weekend on her 40th. VERY pricey and that was 14 years ago. No tv's, no phones, wifi wasn't "in" back then but it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't have that either. Food? Oh man, good eats and the view over the Valley is beautiful, sorry the snow left you guys though. The springtime when their floral gardens are in bloom is exquisite. Enjoy -
You could sure put up a lot of wood in short order with that sucker. Of course there's a lot of bucks tied up in it too, I'm sure.
