  1. I support one buck - no ars. Take in in whatever season, and with whatever weapon you chose. Want more after that? Get DMPs. Mandatory check stations? Never fly and no I probably wouldn't go out of my way.
  2. I think a more accurate statement may be "the news till only cover the liberal pov" (meaning main stream media) because those are the people who own the networks and they use the "news" to promote their viewpoints as opposed to really reporting news.
  3. I hadn't heard that. You can bet if the guard hadn't of been armed and the kid went on a rampage, the antis would be spurting anti-gun crud everywhere but when a gun being present heads the situation off, it's not even worth mentioning
  4. Anybody notice that news stations are including the fact as to why it was over so quickly? a-holes...
  5. I agree with Jeremy, but I would also talk to the sub management and ask them to refresh their members memories regarding the use of your property.
  6. There was an armed guard in the school - but the libs ain't gonna like hearing that... http://www.ijreview.com/2013/12/102056-armed-school-guard-at-arapahoe-high-prevented-further-loss-of-life/ Matt Vespa | On 16, Dec 2013 Why did the tragic school shooting at Arapahoe High in Colorado only last 80 seconds? An armed guard was on the premises – and the only fatality from this horrific event was the gunman. As the Christian Science Monitor reported on December 14: As they investigate the latest school shooting in the United States – Friday at Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colo. – one thing is clear to law enforcement officials there: The presence of an armed deputy sheriff on regular duty at the school was the key factor in preventing more deaths and injuries. As soon as he heard the first of five gunshots, that officer and the two school administrators he was talking to raced toward the commotion shouting their presence and ordering students and staff to follow the school’s lock-down protocol. As a result, Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said at a briefing Saturday afternoon, the heavily-armed shooter [Karl Pierson] realized he was about to be confronted by an armed officer, and he took his own life. Although it may seem like our society is becoming more violent, gun violence in America has dropped almost 40% since 1993, according to the Department of Justice. Sadly, school shootings will happen regardless of public policy. And the fact that schools are “gun-free” zones makes them easy targets for criminals seeking to inflict harm on innocent Americans. So, are armed guards the answer? It prevented further loss of life at Arapahoe High. Newtown adopted armed guards in their school district after Sandy Hook. Last January, a majority of Americans were comfortable with the idea – and that sentiment hasn’t changed.
  7. That's a big honkin' deer. Congratulations to your bud!
  8. And then there's always thermals to contend with. It's always a good idea to use your best judgement about wind, where you think they'll be/come from, time of day for movements, etc... but the bottom line is that deer don't know any of that stuff and will usually do things that are not expected. The number one thing that contributes to success is being in the woods vs on your couch. But at least, planning out all of this stuff gives people something to do, discuss, "argue" about, when they can't be in the woods.
  9. If there's wind, you're always upwind and downwind from something. The key is figuring out where you *think* the deer will come from and being downwind from that. Of course, there's a good chance the deer won't do what you think, but it's worth a shot. ;-)
  10. Although it's not really discussed much, does actually fight almost as much, or more, than bucks. Why? I have no clue because as I said, no one really seems to care because they don't have horns. They usually will rear back and use their front paws instead of their heads though. Just raising an alternative possibility which I don't believe there's any way to prove/disprove.
  11. I give up. As I said - common courtesy apparently has gone down the chitter with most other things of the past. Oh, and Red Oaks Mills is 25 miles north of Poughkeepsie?!? ROTFLMAO - When'd they move it?
  12. Because when someone says "around here" it's nice to know; are they talking Poughkeepsie, Lake Placid, Buffalo? It's just common courtesy, but I guess that's not in vogue these days. As for stalkers, you give people a ton more information when you give them a check. Your full name, address, bank routing information, and account number is right there but I'll bet no one thinks twice about that. And would someone explain to me how with a forum handle and area you're going to find anyone? My name is Steve, I live in Poughkeepsie - find me.
  13. If someone can find out my personal information via a "handle" on forum and a semi-location field, then we're in serious trouble.
  14. Right up front; forgive my rant.... and I know I'll probably get skewered but.... So many times I see posts of "well around here..." etc. but how in the world is anyone supposed to know where "here" is if the location fields aren't filled in? Makes it very frustrating reading. Are people that paranoid that someone's trying to find out where they live and hunt? That's pretty paranoid. I mean, just a clue would be nice, for example if I said I lived in Poughkeepsie (which I do) and said I hunted in Fishkill Plains, I would defy anyone to locate my spot but it would let people know where "here" is. New York is an awfully big state and defining the general location of where "here" seems like basic courtesy.
  15. Yeah, I checked with Matt. They can't do spring hunts on their land and he said they wouldn't anyhow due to cub considerations.
  16. Well, if first hand recommendations are being looked for, you'd be hard pressed to beat Libby Camps. The last I knew I think Matt leases over 100K acres that they have sole access to. Super people, food, accommodations and service. I wouldn't count on using your smartphone though, the last I knew the only thing that worked at camp was their satellite phone. http://www.libbycamps.com/
  17. no problem at all - I figured it was some texting acronym. Good luck today
  18. Yep, strong changes in weather patterns will usually have them moving more than temperature. I'd bet they were/are active in the early morning hours today. Phade: wth is wibd?
  19. Guarantee that it's per person. Room/board/guides/processing etc it ain't cheap
  20. http://blackbearhunting.us/Spring.html That should fix your link... Never dealt with that outfitter, nor have I done a bear hunt. But I did go to Libby Camps a few years for deer. They're not cheap but super nice place and people. And the food - ho man... talk about good. Anyhow, up there they bear hunt over bait of usually sweets or used cooking oil, etc. so the shots are going to be pretty close range. We were bsing with the guides about bear and they said their preference was a 12 gauge slug right into the shoulder. Their point was that the last thing you really want to do in thick areas (which it is) is to be tracking a wounded blackie. They said you may have to supply a finishing shot but without a shoulder, it's going down. Not trying to start any p'ing contests here, just passing on what they said as something to think about.
  21. I'd have to agree that still hunting in a fresh snowfall is my favorite time in the woods, it just doesn't get much prettier.
  22. I don't think anyone needs photo proof of that...
  23. Besides that, trusting Google is like believing anything that comes out of Obamas mouth.
  24. Ah yes, that can happen fast over there. You're welcome to keep it.
