  1. Good shooting.....No chance that that one would fly away. LOL
  2. Any body else out there getting excited?? First duck opener for me and don't know what to expect. I did get select for the lottery at Tonawanda WMA. Any pointers would be helpful. Not sure what to worry about as i don't know how many hunters show up. How close is to close to somebody elses set up? (not worried about me because i try staying away from others) Just not sure about the other guy. So how close before i should express my concerns?
  3. Thats the same question I had after seeing the pics. CONGRATS!
  4. Congrats... Any deer with a bow is a "trophy" in my book. Enjoy the moment as it will last a lifetime.
  5. Hi AaronBlaine, I too am new to duck and goose hunting, but enjoy it alot. I did the early goose season and got three an public land with minimal supplies. Found this link to be very helpful in identification and other tips. Big learning curve as I am self taught, but well worth the effort and another excuse to get outdoors. Can't wait for the duck opener. I hunt in WNY. Feel free to PM me if there is anything I can help you with. http://www.deltawate...ing/quizzes.php
  6. Brand new still in package, never used , I have three packages. Hunter's Specialties® Canada Goose Rags – Per 50 Fooling Canada geese sometimes requires a lot of decoys. Rag-style decoys are the perfect solution. They're cost-effective, easy to transport and have a lifelike profile. The rags are made of waterproof, nonglare fabric. Once deployed, they face into the wind, fill with air and move, simulating a flock of feeding geese. Stakes not included. $29.00 Per 50. plus shipping Or all three rolls (150 rags) for $75.00 plus shipping
  7. First deer I ever got was a doe with the bow. The next day i got an eleven point with the shotgun, that was 29 years ago and still haven't top it. Congrats on that one!! Beautiful Buck!
  8. I do know that older (4-5yr olds) does may go into estrus earlier than the rest. We still have time (3weeks) for the real fireworks to begin. Just remember that we are in the deer woods early. Still have doe groups and buck groups running together.
  9. Better feeling when he is in the freezer!!! Good luck and be safe!
  10. Sorry to hear, hate theives. Its the same scum buckets that leave garbage in the woods. Exploding camera is the only option with a finger print tab to disarm it. Theives try to open it up or remove it and it explodes disables them and then tree come down and finishes the deal. LOL ...Just kidding!! I am pretty sure that leaving stands, blinds ect. is illegal on stateland. I don't know if cameras apply though.
  11. Keep hunting where the Does are whether you spook them or not. Bucky will be checking all these areas as the season progresses. I had a Doe spook,(just wasn't sure what I was,in my stand) and was blowing as she left. I blew back at her 3 times and she came back within 25 yards. Just when you think you have them figured out, you don't. Spooked some walking in, only to have them circle back because they thought the danger had past. Its all part of the experience and the stories you have to tell later. Take it all in and enjoy!
  12. Exactly the reason why I started butchering deer myself. I had taken a good size doe into the butcher and came out with about 25lbs of meat. I asked where the other bag was and check and see if it was the wrong deer. I have been butchering them myself ever since. Its not as hard as you think. You can do the cuts to your liking, no hair or bits of bone. I bone mine out in the garage. If its real warmout, I skin, quarter it up and into the extra fridge for a few days.
  13. Great to see. Thats something he will remeber for a lifetime.Congrats!!!
  14. Came across this today and just wanted to give everyone a heads up on this. Hate to see anyone get hurt. Attached is the link to the hang on tree stand recall. http://www.huntriver...012/safety.html
  15. Spooked 4 in the field and then 4 at the edge of the woods (maybe the same group???) Real still morning and seen absolutlely nothing as far as deer goes. Great day to be in the woods.
  16. After reading the "Broken Stand" post and plenty of time to think in the stand this AM. I had this thought: Ok were all strapped in and up 10,12,18 feet off the ground. The stand breaks and your hanging by our harness. Now what?? No one ever tells you how to get down. LOL I carry a screw in step (sometimes) but left that behind today. Shimmy down the tree ?,,Was great when I was younger but can't picture doing that at 52. Remember, you have the strap above you and have to climb up to loosen it. Thought we all could use some help on this one. Any suggestion??
  17. Went in this am (first time this season) in the rain and it stopped about 9:00. Nothing to be seen, just the geese overhead. Still enjoy every moment in the outdoors. But where else would you rather be??!!
  18. I put another strap around the tree and hang my pack of it with the carbiner. I hate having anything on my stand to make it unbalanced.
  19. Take a pee or pour a cup of coffee....The best time to see deer.
  20. Always pee from my stand...Quick story...On opening day a few years back, had a guy beat me into my stand. Asked him what he was doing and said he thought knowone was using it. Asked him (told him nicely) to get out and he was really mad. Watched him leave as the sun started to come up. Stopped 25 yards from me and started to piss all over the place. An hour later heard shots and two does were just ripping through the woods. Hit the pee spot and slammed on the breaks, I dropped her right there. I never got to thank him. LOL
  21. Glad to hear your OK. Why do they always break the second you detach your harness??
  22. Welcome!! New to the forum as well....But what a great place.
  23. Yep, pretend your deer hunting and they will just about attack you!!
