So yesterday I was out nearly all day...spotted a robin in the yard and 3 flocks flying North. 2 geese and the very distinct sound of trumpeter swans...I noticed...they fly much high then the geese do when going over.

You know how thrifty I am...So I checked around...You can't be beat on the price for those specific cams from What I've found...Kudos -
How times have changed..Olympians huh? Back in my day we called them the girls...hhhhmmmmm BTW as we age...... they become snow birds

The beds I have found this year have actually been single large ones and ones with urine in them. I Have also kicked up buck.My plot cams have been averaging 30-120 pics every other day. That's with a large beef hay field and a winter grain field that backs up to our south line. They border US and run 1/2 mile to the next road. I also get more young growing buck pics than doe each spring. Some cam files I've named buck parade. This is why I find it strange.

Thanks wooly, this is where they hang in winter I thought with the tangle they have to maneuver I'd find one that got caught. This is also where they go when wounded. Last year I found the 9 or skull, 2 years ago the 6. Yesterday just that blood stained leg. I'm thinking most are probably in the many surrounding pine woods. As some of my pics show we have some rather large Norway woods next to us ,red pine and white spruce wood lots..I've glasses the big pastures near me from stands, nothing. No biggy, but a bit strange..We obviously have the buck around..My cams show me that...I did find the woods and part of the swamp tore up by turkey. Much more turkey sign in that area than in the past this time of year. I noticed A high concentration of locusts pods, some still had a seed or 2. Also a few more hips than normal. The swamp grasses were hit hard and the cattails had fewer heads to them. Did notice the bark on one Apple branch chewed up. I may be using the wrong term for these areas. They may be considered bogs more than swamps. I need to review my definitions. What I do know is a few times it tried eating my boots! That dreaded sucking sound and your foot won't budge.

They have torn up the woods surrounding the swamp and were in the swamp as well. I know these are Two different flock...should be a fun season coming up.

I corrected that 3 x' s. Its didn't find one shed.. Anyways I don't understand it either..I thought for sure there'd be something in the swamp..rubs everywhere and huge tracks...I watched them in there during season. I unfortunately found I lost my excess route to where I can walk in undetected. Several ash fell criss cross over some huge rose all landing right in the trail...No way around it due to the thick rose bushes. I looked like I was in a cat fight when I left....I'm building a hang on for down there...moving my one ladderstand. My options for the area are very limited..but I need to make my presence known opening weekend...I found a new bullet wound chest high in one of my trees . It came from the direction of property with a bunch of double wide . It really is mostly bow or cross bow legal. My only gun option is well above the start of the swamp and on the north east side...which is great wind wise.

What's up with this! I can never find sheds on the property even though I have rubs, active bedding areas. Today I spent 6 hrs in our swamp. OMG the deer sign there was crazy! I didn't find one- she in that mess of wild rose and cattails. There were cow path sized trails everywhere in there. Those deer crawled into the nastiest places. I did find a chewed up huge front leg and shoulder.nothing else.

I swear that wasn't the same article I read earlier...Anyways Gods speed to the shooting victim. That said, this should prove interesting...Of course never shoot and eyes! Don't coyote eyes have a color to them? The ones I've shined did...I can't say I would come right out and say I was shooting at what looked like eyes...Who's to say it wasn't a yote and he missed hitting the shed hunter. Now unless the article changes again...Didn't I read he was hunting on his own land? How many of you shed hunters go out on your property or public land to shed hunt at night with a flash light?... Yes I think he needs to find a good lawyer...

Read that first link I posted Doc...fatal...each species has a mite specific problem so if your dog or pigs, livestock get it they can be treated...I had a neighbor with a hound that had it not once but 2x's and it was a long expensive fix...the dog looked terrible, even though it had a funnel around it's neck to keep the constant urge to gnaw it's self at bay. In the wild there are no vet treatments. Mange in humans is scabies...

Started the big project yesterday...
growalot replied to growalot's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Well the big project...holy cow I'm not sure I will have many trees left...I went down yesterday to work and ended up pushing over another 20+ saplings...too many large ones that will need sawing to topple......I'm a tad worried about whats happening to the maple on the hill...it's not isolated and I am loosing timber sized trees. It has been happening over the last few years but after last summer it's increased significantly. Anyways this project has spread to other areas so I'm hop scotching a bit. It will be a guess as to what I actually finish. I can say that the oak flats project I've been working on over the last few years has started working well. I have been hinging and cutting to open the oak canopies and let more sun to the trail plots plus cover in the bedding. I went over to check it out. In an area under the oaks in a heavily hinged spot 50'x70' there were no less then 51 piles of deer droppings. they were everywhere. I had watched the deer going in and out of that spot last year from a couple of stands...There is also two apples(one producing) in that spot...I'm hoping it produces a nice deer for me this year. -
Could that report have been a bit more vague...........

Forward to. Won't be long now...

The last time for me was a few years ago...I was there nearly all day and had to sit through the vetting of every single juror. The only one left in the gallery ...The judge would stop every once in a while to say how lonely I looked sitting out there. Oh such fun, it was interesting watching body language and how the individual jurors answered questions...a few had some baggage and didn't ask to answer privately,to my surprise.

We have a couple of different flocks Bill and yes, I'm very pleased with the #'s thus far. though pup rearing season is nearing and I do find wings and legs around the place each spring summer. usually up here on the ridge for some reason...I have no dens in that area. That is where I found the dead Fisher last year though and a lot of raccoon trees. I'm hoping that last years poults produced some Jakes in good #'s. We don't have all that many Toms considering the size of the flocks...last year there were some nice Jake #'s. We have nearly as many turkey hunters here as we do deer. That is the one hunter that my no doe hunting neighbor will allow other than her son, friends hunts turkey. I am curious as to what the flocks will look like ...we have never had them here during the winter. So are these a new grouping or did they forego the trip down to the valley all together? How much more of an increase will we see come late March /April. I believe the farmer having his late oats and the farm next to him putting in those beans had a big impact on the flock last year. I know they have a rather large hay field to nest in,but I'm not too sure he much cares when the turkey nest when it comes to cutting it...He cuts is a few times a year for his beef. The beans are in a cover crop. This may or may not be a plow down ..it was in corn for many many years until last year. Fun watching things unfold.

Ya I'll get right on installing a mini cam in my mouth... like I said it's difficult to describe...though actually no different than what one does with a diaphragm in their mouth...I can call turkeys when ever and where ever I wish...and have shot birds for the last umpteen years using my own vocals. I only bring slates with me so I can sound like multiple birds when needed. I actually had a couple of very short videos of my calling on here...
