  1. I have to ask...How many of you arguing ,still, over the cross bow issue , intently watch when dogs chase their tails? I think if we were to ask one of the moderator to find any one of the past years threads on this , then post it up...it would save a lot of guys a lot of time, freed up, from typing.
  2. I'm some crazy grey haired woman.... especially when I ducked and scream when he showed up. So I'm out with the Stihl back pack blower re doing trails and opening new ones..I'd been at it an hour or so and had worked my way back to the upper clover field. Where all the buck have been during day light. Now mind you I do not even drive in my plots and Mr B was at work...As I'm concentrating on what I'm doing looking down...I see a flash of white coming at me fast from across the plot...just out of the corner of my eye..Seeing I've had more than one too close buck encounter in my life guess what I thought it was...I let out a scream, swung around to protect my back with the blower and ducked, when I hear " sorry "....I turned around to see this young guy with a sheepish grin in the mail jeep...LOL...I'm your new mail person with a package for Mr. ....... I said yes and the house is across the street,,,he said I saw tracks so followed them...hahaha the drive to this section is grass and I had the gator I just laughed and apologized for screaming I was concentrating on the leaf blowing...he gave me the package and his name then left...I didn't bother telling him I thought the wht jeep was a buck charging...
  3. Finally got Mr B around with the truck/cars, towings..he will have my car today and I will start trails now...good luck guys...
  4. Guys..... it is a buck parade around here 109 pics on just one cam last night...here is one of the new one...Thinking if I were another buck..I wouldn't want to get into a fight with this guy...because of the goring potential...
  5. ha! I have over 30 and 12 blinds on 73 acres... in groups of 4 for the wind I'll always have some place to sit no matter what ma nature does to them...ie..wind ,downed trees ,ICE..
  6. Some kind of deer..I think it may have been a doe, because of the way those fawns acted. There wasn't a spot on that 38 acre section of our property I didn't check after I lost the trail . Man I have shot deer that lost a whole lot less blood than I was seeing and found them toot sweet. I'm thinking after last nights near hits of deer on the road ,it could have been a car strike. though there was no hair or blood on the road and no hair any where where I saw blood. BTW... I checked on where the owl had that cat and just found a little hair and a like a slim spot. I'd taken picks of all but after loosing then finding my phone in the house...I lost the damn thing again..We've looked everywhere even the garbage! I just hate phones!
  7. all day sits are a thing of the past for me...I get severe leg cramps if I sit all day. I use to just figure things out make plans, invent projects, and talk to my self in my head..lol
  8. lol...with that in your minds eye I can see how it would be disgusting..looks good to me. what type of fish?
  9. Nearly had 3 different deer tonight...with the car...Mr B called, engine died on the company truck ...bring vehicle scanner and big flash light...I have never honked my horn so many times in a 5 mile drive...It was crazy...hhmmm I'm still waiting for the tow truck to pull in with him...doesn't it figure he'd have the 4 wheeler on the trailer tonight..our son was there with him when I left..any ways deer just lining the roads... Who's hunting the heat tomorrow?... I'm finishing up clearing all trails and checking the stands down by swamp, scrubbing the Gator and getting stuff put away for winter.
  10. Deer aren't always where there is food and what I learned yesterday is set up near poison ivy..They are hammering the berries right now. So for the first statement...had a lot less time to clear trails so I did behind the house for the first time...There is very little food for them out back this year . That is why I was pleasantly surprised to uncover a billion tracks of all sizes and widths/depthI may have been hunting the wrong area...So I got part of it done and opened up 3 stands the cardboard blind and 5 brush blinds...When I get my extra tags tomorrow I'll pick up a ML tag for Saturday and the blinds. I just pulled out the Wicked Ridge and my shooting stick..perhaps that will change my luck for Friday...or Thursday night if it stops raining.
  11. It won't drive me crazy because over the years I have trailed several wounded deer through our place...usually though they are behind our place 3 times with the guys that shot them...never found......this is only the second on that side of the road.
  12. it only went a few feet into the corn that lines our pines, that line the road. This is why I marked the pine tree and then walked the road on both sides the length of that section of property... nothing along sides or on the road it's self.
  13. I decided not to go out ..it is pretty windy and I saw temps were to go up pretty fast..figure with tomorrows rains and snow tire rotation I'd clean trails today...so much for best laid plans...I leave the house at 7:40 to go retrieve my scent drag I forgot last night and pull cards down there...No bow or anything just a quick run down...I come across fawns that just won't move...I keep walking but they stand their ground watching me...as I'm about to hit the plot past our drive, I see a pool of blood. My first thought was maybe the cat wasn't dead and got away injured..It was sizable and bright red but looked fresh...So I decide to follow up on to our place and realize nope that is deer...I retrace then try to find trail in other direction...into our corn then nothing...so I marked the pine near it and went out and walked the road and ditches...both sided nothing ...I noted that zero cars were at the neighbors..no skid marks ,hair ,or blood in middle of road...hhhmmmm So fresh looking I came back and gave it an hour while I had some more coffee. I go back up and follow a great blood trail that took me up along the side of our hill..It had stopped and pooled and bedded 2 times in that 200yrd tracking . It was spotty then opened up to lots of blood then went to a drop every 5 to 10 ft...then great...finally towards the end of that hill side one drop and nothing ..I tried everything to find just one more pinhead sized drop. ...So I started a sectional grid...I did the side of hill then the lower section of property . I went above the trail and hit the ridge then walked back through the gully on the other side of ridge...I then circled back and around to hit the top of our place There was a whole lot of thin bright red blood, no hair and poof gone. I tried following soft tracks but it led nowhere. I don't know if it was a late/early morning car hit...though the beds may say different to that, or a bow shot...can't call neighbor for he's the one that won't return a call to me so I could get a retrieval call #. So I don't know if he was hunting yesterday...Though they both came home last night at close so???.. Any ways messed up my plans ..but that was good practice. I do know one thing...it wasn't at least one big deer...for I caught him way out in the shadows of a pic last night ...I also got a pic of the buck I spooked getting out of my stand last night....he came through after I left... the cam is next to blind, but the stand is about 200ft on the other side of him in this pic. I'm thinking it was a doe due to those 3 fawns that wouldn't leave the area...I'm thinking they smelled her blood. I figure the crows or vultures will give it up ,unless it was a brisket car or arrow hit? don't they bleed a lot and bright red?
  14. That will teach me...spent the morning tracking a deer...I'll put up a new post
  15. I had one grab the toe of my boot one spring turkey hunt.lifted my leg off the ground. Mr B googled this..apparently they like cat..but usually grab and fly their prey up very high and released to kill it...this cat was a pretty good size and he couldn't lift it..killed unsurprisingly fast ...at least it looked dead when he hopped away with it.
  16. Kindle won't allow me to edit...apparently it won't let me edit the previous post only.
  17. I had no idea owls ate cats..or could even kill one!
  18. How to explain tonight.. It was the worst of Tim's,it was the best of times...ya 8doe and fawn 30 yrds away broad side for 48 min....On the other side of the fence...to add insult they were nearly hit 2x'scrossibg the road instead of coming to plot..T close..kicked up 3 in plot didn't see in tall stuff and a buck on other side of fence, getting ready to jump. Now for the best...I watch a cat hunt mice in our field while the deer were out there teasing me... I think may be that tabby I've had on cams all summer.I get to road to walk home and he's walking up the road in the middle..I step in behind him and see another Dark spot farther up the hill. Another cat in the road. I figure this tabby is someone pet for he could care less that I'm behind him. Just as that thought crossed my mind a silent dark figure swoops out of a large black locusts that is on our land...pretty good sized wing span. It hits the cat which screams and can't pick it up..as it folds its wings around it .moving around as the cat screams one more time..I'm just standing there startled at first but in amazed at what I'm seeing. I look up the road and to see the other cat running like a bat out of you know where...The owl hopped the cat off to the side of the road.and I just walked past..Wow! Sad but so cool to witness...hmmmm pretty sure I now know what happened to the neighbors cat. I'm not sure I want to tell them that.
  19. I am headed back out..going to a new stand and near where I saw that deer at the end of lane way...this is on a corner 10 yards from several reds and in good wind of the corn /sorghum/turnips...lets see if they jump the fence this year or com in from the road or woods...Good luck guys
  20. I don't need a heated coat...I need heated bun warmers/panties......lol it takes hours to get back to a normal temp...Now don't make a joke of it ...I'm serious...I had fallen into the Canseraga creek as a kid, then walked a 1mile home in literally a blizzard...My girl friend and I were frozen when we got home. I had blisters..my mom stood my snow pants up next to the furnace they stood on their own a very long time. So now the cold effects my lower extremities quickly. Anyone that has suffered frost bite knows from where I speak.
  21. The trick to thse is variety...If you set it early and use more than one bottle ...use a different brand scrape juice...I also have more than one doe urine and then estrus urine, first rutting stuff now...get the other deer wanting to come in and use it..once they do leave it alone...I have to say I did one other thing to draw deer over to take a look. you know those car vent "hair pin type" air fresheners for your air vents...well I found a mixed berry one that smells real and strong...I took one and clipped it to a nearby branch up high so they can't reach it...apples have all dropped...well they can smell it and have come in to check it out...they come 2 to a package..can't remember brand.
  22. I have that one and I use the scrape formula and spray estrus in scrape...The bottle is empty right now and has been a few days though the areas reeks. it gets visits from both doe and buck...this is the latest ....
  23. Nothing midday but I laid down a doe estrous trail, found a new scrape under the Cortland apple tree ,which is loaded...In the yard garden. I assume from last nights road buck, for it was pretty big. Will prep dinner and head out at 3 to a corner stand I have yet to try.
