They are allowed on tree farms...nursery stock farms ..any farms that rely on tree stock as an income...due to buck rubbing destroy quality stock...nut tree ,Christmas tree farms...though still need to be used out of any deer hunting season ...So I thought, things do change

There is one last place I haven't hunted...and that is the middle of the property..I actually have 4 stands and 5 ground blinds there and haven't had a decent wind for it. Well now I do for one stand only...perhaps the ground blind...the stand will afford my being able to see all movement...but the blind may be what will get me into a better shot position... I'm really not sure ...there are no cams there and the plots did not do as well as I had hoped and the oaks stopped dropping weeks ago...there is a bedding area and lots of bramble still...coin toss? -

From the cams and the fact they just did 20+acres of corn for seed not silage during a strong south wind...corn...it is 2 1/2 miles as the crow fly's and I'm pretty sure they are flocking to that field. Then there is all the WW that was planted over where they had beans and corn . Lets not for get the clover in last seasons WW fields and summer oat fields...the list is long in farm country before you even consider all the natural forbs. -

Looks like Ma Nature took that luck she gave me and passed it around this year...I even went and bought some scratch offs. I had the clerk pick out 2 one dollar tickets anything she wanted to pick...I won 17.00 and gave the clerk a five dollar bill. I call that hedging my bets, as it were....hasn't worked thus far...but I made that young girls afternoon... -

Pulled cam cards here and had 2 adult does and the triplets at shooting time this morning...neighbor has a guy hunting that just took a 4 wheeler up the back part of the property along our side...hhhmmm how will that effect movement and where should I go? Want to rest the swamp before an afternoon sit....I know where I've seen big buck cruising but the doe are staying low...Today was the first day time activity I've seen and at that they still stayed right in the nastiest of cover while moving......hhmmmm -

What a fantastic hunt! I had to use the head lamp 2/3 of the way and it took nearly an hour of getting around tree tops down on the trail and baby steps down the hill. I had cleared the trail and it stayed pretty clear of leafs. My boots stayed dry on the inside through both streams and two ankle deep boot sucking spots. I Was so quiet I never spooked a single thing. All told I had 18 deer filed by and I raised the bow twice...One a "halo buck" chased 3 deer up past us spooking the doe I was on. The other ,there were just too many rose hips in the scope to chance the 17 yrs shot. Watched an eagle soring on high over the valley. Then my mud caked boots started getting cold. On the quiet walk back the cleaned trail was just loaded with fresh tracks. I believe this will be a great afternoon stand, just need them to come through on the clear side not the rose brush side. May move stand next season. -
It couldn't have been more perfect...you up my way Lawd?...had one of the resident eagles soring over head just as the sun cleared the hill tops WOW is right.

So I went to the far south east corner of our property figuring they'd be filling down through our woods from that way.....I shot a doe from that stand last year in bow season. I had cleaned the trails the other day so the walk in was relatively quiet...(thanks to the wind filling back in) I was wearing a rut-n-buck wafer on my hat and I had one up wind of me at 10 yrds on the tail to stand. In strolled a 5 point. one of the 5 from the other day...he walked up my trail broadside at 22 yrds . Then turned and walked right to my ladder and stood a bit... just looking around...went back up the trail and stayed broadside at 25 yrds a bit turned and at the head of the stand trail 22 yrds out he just stood looking my way chewing his cud...looking around and chewing for over 10 mins. then he let me know exactly what trail they are using in and out of the neighbors golden rod and pines... perfect! So yes I passed him for around 25 mins in all..I know I've been complaining about not getting anything...and times a ticking...but I'd rather take a doe first if not one of the older boys...That just might change before Friday..but I have yet to try to swamp stand..Tomorrow if wind allows...I may kick myself...but not quite yet...It was a great hunt. PS ..returning home triplets were in front of the garden blind... -

How Early Before Sunrise Do You Get In Your Stand?
growalot replied to buffalojay83's topic in Bow Hunting
depends...always at least before twilight,,,but in gun season if it's not crazy cold 1 1/2 hrs....listen say it's crazy but I was nearly shot out of my tree stand 20 mins before legal hunting...I have been walking home in the dark after getting stuck in the stand by deer...to have the lease guys fire off a shot nearby, because there was a full moon and snow... I don't walk around unless I am right on the road during gun season in daylight. -

Oh Lawd...yes indead..I checked radar...rain north, not a cloud near us. Checked wind speed ,not too bad...hit the road and start out...I start getting a stinging on my face...wind starts to whip and the rain actually hurts...By the time I got half way to where I wanted to go I changed plans for it was pouring..Switch gears and hit Rivers blind...Of course...rain stopped ,but wind really picked up..Absolutely nothing is moving up here pretty morning and this wind filled in trails again but also opened everything up and I can now see all the away down into neighbors swamp. Allowing me to see whats moving about and his spring, 30 yards off the blind, is flowing well. @ 10am I went and pulled cards on the way home...I know where the deer are...On the east side of the hill or in the deep sections of the gullies or the pines/ lower swamps...That is just a given in winds like this for that is where the doe will stay...nothing on the cams last night and I managed to walk past most...so they are for sure staying east/south/ east of us....Sun just peaked out -

Heading out a minute or two. It isn't going to rain nor did it ran. Last night. The winds aren't going to be quite as bad either...No rain so I'll leave the swamp stand alone for a day or two....hitting a big tree stand today ,less movement. -

Nothing this afternoon ...but I made it down to the swamp stand. I took some clippers and a limb saw ..I cleaned the trail of downed trees. I clipped and sawed wild rose and checked the stand. I found a huge bed 10 yrds from stand and up wind, perfect. There are 3 heavily used trails that go right past the stand...It is especially wet this year though. -

I decided after getting up at 3:30 not to go out ...look at the above winds in bold....yep there is absolutely ZERO wind out there...I mean not even a slight breeze. I just couldn't handle the thought of more cold gusting winds once I got out there...yesterday I had to hold the ground blind down and swirl!... I'm just on the edge of giving up. Not seeing any doe during the day except the one doe with huge 6 just on the other side of road while I had a hand full of mail and always 10-15 mins past closing as I'm about to climb down and bows on the ground. Pulled card on new cam over turnips...doe bedding on and off all night, when bucks weren't there chasing. 12 yrds infront of cam. I would be overly thrilled If I could just get a adult doe to come in for a good shot...I do not need a buck..though the teasing has been a bit much...Doe here are just so crazy hard to hunt. All summer I can walk within yards of them...after the first week of bow all bets are off...OK that's completely out of my system ...I'll go wash the Gator .... and head out this afternoon. -

Yes Rob and like with a gun it depends on the particular weapon...with the thumb safeties on my twenty gages...there is a big difference between the sound of the Brownings safety and the Mossbergs. Though my daughter's Mossberg is quieter then either of mine. Same thing with crossbows, different models, and individual weapons. -

A loud safety Equals trashing....I've shot 2 deer with it and it is dead on,with dampened pretty quiet shooting bow for a low end. So I'll rack the spooking up to what ever previous bow hunter experiences he may have had. That and my luck in general has totally sucked this season. -

Wicked Ridge Warrior is by a lot....I believe it's due to the pressure of the string that causes it...unlike a gun
