  1. How quickly, and I was wondering how long it would take,we forget. One of the first post this season..."someone shot my buck" and the ensuing photo's of said broad-head nearly through the opposite shoulder on a deer that was shot last year but killed this....
  2. Haha! Knew if I complained I'd find it..on chair under a comforter I brought up from dryer last night. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
  3. Ask me to track a deer and your likely to find it...But I'll be damned if I can find my phone!...had it hunting last night..never took it out ,...emptied all pockets to wash outer clothes...I have no clue! Good thing my internal alarm clock is working or I wouldn't have gone out this morning...
  4. papist what was the angle of your shot? and what side? heart or liver side?
  5. Best to you papist and I love the excitement in your post.... Camo girl shake it off and sorry...I have no fall turkey due to same sorta thing...but I hit fence wire in front of blind and lost the arrow ,never hit bird and the only thing I had to show for it was one fletching where the bird stood....You will get another chance...Good Luck
  6. Well I did it...had to go to the garden stand just west of the garden blind I was so quiet getting in and no spooking deer...Nothing but a flock of turkey...the deer all played/ate last night leaving at 2:40 this a.m.Wasn't a quiet walk out...heavy frost on every thing as the sun appeared cameras frozen shut....going to warm up have coffee and hit a mid woods stand 11-1...then the lower plot this afternoon.
  7. Great morning..Now...what to do ,where to go? Starting fresh.. washed all outer wear last night...wet ,quiet, little wind out of North. I now hate cams...lol
  8. I'd say dead..too late, effort made...Now just a learning thing. Think about it step by step. Don't obsess, just consider what you actually saw, what ppl suggested, what you did and in what time frame...Then try to do better next time..best to you.
  9. I hit a buck high along spine. 3 yards from the tree...he wobbled off into golden rod. Not one drop of blood . I went to where I'd watched him enter golden rod and tracked him by prints alone..Then got into a mess of prints and did a broken brush and squat scanning search . This until I found belly. He had turned and was headed back toward the stand 200 yards away. One lung, but nicked artery
  10. Depends on the angle... how high you were, level the ground was and distance from base of tree.
  11. I no sooner got to stand I see a doe that I walked by bedded in the hemp....spooked but no tail raise and no snort ..just trotted along the short side then long side of garden across from the stand...sent in under the dropping yellow apple tree. I climbed up and waited, making sure they did sneak in on my off side to hemp without my noticing like last time..The fogs very wet and I'm getting soaked with a constant heavy mist.I look over the hemp to the road and there is...5 pts my side and I know at least 3 on the other..he could have been an 8,9,or 10pt buck walking nose to the pavement down the middle of the road past our drives...grunting did nothing. Then at close I'm about to leave and I see a good sized deer ghost past me to the far clover plot. It may have gotten it's pic taken,so I'll see tomorrow.
  12. I'm sitting here laughing about it...morning total bust from start to finish rain showed 2 hours early...that doe,and I'm AFTER HER NOW!...hahahaha. I was thinking on my walk up ,seeing nothing on lower cams...that this just may be one of those bust years for me...can't remember the last time that's happened but at least I know there are a couple of bigger guys around...though I heard the neighbors 4wheeler slowly driving at his place...he may have connected on one of them..That's OK...One more guy out of the picture just before the action heats up
  13. OMG...the picture I took on stand in the lane way...I never saw that deer at the other end of lane way until now...I grunted, rattled, snort, wheezed, and call turkey.....I have a stand right there too...lol
  14. Gots to go, rain starting back up.grab cards on the way out.probably to see where I should have been. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
  15. Rains just stopped, lots of squirrel, not a peep from them. Something please move... Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
  16. I'm starting to think first shot op on anything that passes me. .that doe seems to be following me around!..sounded off all the w a y through neighbors place y Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
  17. Crazy doe parrelled me from front to back of property blowing like a nut job...lots of deer in dark running past me , nothing since. In a stand, now pouring...nice! Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
  18. Here's to hoping the weather is wrong and rain holds off...no wind finally. short window of cool temps....and no numbness in arms and hands...grabbing a bite, shower and heading to a new stand area....good luck guys
  19. I swear it was the new hives the neighbor down the road put in. I have to stop and warn him I'm planting buck wheat this spring...We love buckwheat honey...but many do not...I need to give him a heads up in case he wants to move the hives to a different location.
  20. I started archery with a 45# recurve I borrowed...took a 7pt buck a year later and needed to buy a new bow for I was hooked. The one I borrowed was 50 yrs old with a new string I bought, but the archery guy helping me suggested It could be too old to use any more. I went to a Hoyt compound and for 15 yrs I shot a lot of deer...still using fingers and no sights...The only advantage was speed. I say this because I could hold that 45# recurve a good long time..I practiced doing so. Going to the 50 # compound didn't change that. Then because deer search suggested the Hoyt was too slow a bow and I lost a monster buck due to a uncertain shot, having to call them for tracking...It was picked up by a local I found out a year later. So I bought the bow I have now, but I had to go to a release ,still no sights. The speed is great and shots are longer but 49#'s I can still hold a long time. It's been a progression. Now as many know, I wasn't thrilled in the least about crossbows when this whole thing started years ago...My main thing was inclusion would be screwed up and dang! sure enough the DEC stepped in it. But I was in Gander with a lot of points and happened to pick one up just to see what everyone was really talking about. I had given my opinion ,lets say blindly, for I'd never even held one. I went into Gander to buy a 10.00 card reader and walked out with a 400.0 crossbow setup. The first hunt I hated it. missed a doe but it was bulky and heavy. I now have gotten use to it and taken a couple of deer. It is crazy fast and powerful . That said, it doesn't leave me with the satisfaction my compound does. I would love to go back to a recurve and have thought hard on it, but a bad shoulder will keep me from putting out the funds..and age. Though I'm thinking that River and I will be working on him starting out with a recurve. Honing the skills needed to get to becoming a good archer. Then he can start his own progression. Lets hope he has any seasons to do so.
  21. The turnips are called Hercules and I purchased them through the Dansville Agway...checked on them today ...Deer tore them up! They can't seem to finish them in one night so it takes a few visits..How perfect is that near a stand? eventually I'll catch them in shooting hours...lol Seriously Doc it was the craziest garden season I've ever had....I just saw winter squash on sale for 1.39 per #. I easily have 100#'s of just that. We gave away 30 pumpkins to workers and family friends plus the ones we kept and 20 left for the deer...Just every thing over produced... I earned my keep this year for sure..hahahhaha
  22. Toms and hens tend to separate when temps drop...all of them also head down towards the valley...They start working their way back up back up late winter.
