  1. Yep I'd call someone and put up a bit of a stink...but....then you've painted a target on your back...so making sure you put into play a safety "net" in that instance is important....ie..... being absolutely squeaky clean and making sure public papers/records of what is going down are out there...always have a reliable witness present and insist on all things in writing...such as the reason fire arm was listed as nuisance before any action is taken....
  2. Actually if you read the story and comments....NY is just about par on what others across the country said...with the exception...and this may be because of my opening request to the post....Your not tearing the ppl .....self included..... that said they wouldn't have shot a new one or inferring jealousy.... So Kudos for that...yep reactions have been more interesting than event it's self
  3. OK that is just a neat thing
  4. I Don't know ..... other than the deer was coming to a feeder for weeks and when livestock costing upwards of 40,000+K... I would think they'd at least try to tranquilize it...Now in the original...my link didn't work but the one in a page 1 of post does....It stated the deer was never reported as lost...and tags were visible in many trail cam pics before the kill....as I said Kudos for her taking the kill...I personally would have tried to contact owners....Now in the state this happened...the Farm could have charged her a trophy fee...according to papers...state law...but they waved the fee...publicity...That may not have happened if the shooter was ...lets say a "hillbilly" looking type...just supposing there...lol
  5. http://www.fieldands...knowing?photo=3 this link takes you to the original story and comments...that got me to thinking....if you scroll through the pics to #19 you can clearly see the red and yellow ear tags present....I don't know what the regulations are on escapees in NYS are...
  6. A good friend of ours likes to go on guided hunts this year he went on a wild guided hunt in Alberta Canada and this is the buck he took....He was not allowed to bring back the meat nor the skull of this buck..... just the cape and rack specially packaged for a taxidermist...Too bad about that but ......Wow what a buck of a life time....He was here hunting with the guys at camp as usual...always fun having him at camp and lots of great stories and he brings great goodies
  7. Remember...this is just a would you wouldn't you question and perhaps why you would or wouldn't...please
  8. No go back up to WNYBow hunters post for link....post # 5...it was this that made me ask....I only wish I was that young again and in that good of shape....lol
  9. I couldn't get it high lighted but please pay close attention to paragraph 3
  10. Yes lets clear this up...from the DEC web site as follows...... http://www.dec.ny.gov/press/50188.html
  11. Yes WNYBow...that is the one that got me to thinking...the tag is in the right ear..according to papers...and as you see there were cam pics of the deers right side...she also passed the buck once at 10yrds...so I question the unknowingly part...I give congrats on a very close kill shot...for buck fever caused me to whiff on a super ten this gun season.... but not nearly as big as that buck....so Kudos for that...I personally would have called the farm after first cam pics that showed tag....Can it even be entered into Boone and Crockett?....I also know that I personally would have a hard time knowing I shot livestock...which is only to say that is how I personally would have felt...on another site most of the comments were congrats and sorta good for sticking it to the farmer...so I was curious on just a NY opinion

    bear mount

That is seriously a nice looking mount...Congrats!
  13. First..PLEASE!!! Don't turn this into a moral /non moral...ethical discussion.....read the ? and approach it simply as I would or wouldn't...I'd call it in or just take it out..... So the premiss...you live within a few miles of a game farm Your cams pic up several days of a 200+racked buck...with a tag in it's ear..... no missing deer reports that you know of ...but cams show the tag.... Would you say hey.... fair game and shoot it if chance arose ...? Would you look at it as live stock and turn in the sighting?
  14. By the way whose we??...Do you have a mouse in your pocket...I love the oblique "We".. "I" will end my part of this in stating ...I don't really give a rats pututy what you think of my improving my property ...nor do I give a flying squirrel as to your opinions as to why I'm able to take game or not...for I know why...and I can be proud of my efforts...and feel a little sad at your need to try and diminish ANYONE elses accomplishments afield in your broad strokes of innuendo...and if this is all due to you having a bad season...I wish ya luck for this year
  15. Now I know that I gather a lot of bits and pieces of information while cruising the net...but pics tend to cohere with the words...and I believe I've seen pics with text of the DEC actually giving awards to ppl in QDM for improvement efforts in land habitat....Now I know if it wasn't NYDEC that there are several other state conservation Departments that have...By the way easily checked out. Now before another diversion is zipped out there...I am not a fan of QDM...but in land management as a whole....so if you want to put out statements like that please inform us of the enlightened NYS Biologist names...for I would truly like to hear these type of statements from the horses mouth ..sorta speak To another little ditty also posted in the Turkey forum....what in blue blazes do you think the wild Turkey Federation has been doing for years now....if it weren't for their efforts in not only relocating but improving turkey habitat through planting...we wouldn't have the thriving population we have now...as far as your ...perhaps you should spend a bit more time in the turkey woods hunting instead of fuming over not being able to legally sit over your cracked corn...just a thought
  16. Dave ...we have a hay field and a corn field bordering the South ...a hay field bordering the east and swamps and streams bordering north and west of us and large pine plantations all around us...as I said they eat on us ate night...but we are basically the travel area between bedding areas....when we started out with just 9 1/2 acres I was killing 2-4 deer a year here...no plots Do I have some skill... yep...but the main thing I have is time....I can hunt and do every single day from Oct to Dec...If you all want to know what the true magic bullet is to hunting....It's simply time
  17. See now this post could have been a good one...but not... I would have thought reading the post ppl may have returned with...ya I've hunted ..IE...Rattlesnake Hill...Harriett Holister....Canacadea...Oh whats the gorge in Naples?..you know...Stoney Brook...Hemlock...Letchworth...Allegheny state parks....ect...ect Perhaps given advise on them....but nope keep it to the vest...interesting...I don't hunt public even though I'm close to some great places...I'm blessed with private and feel it...for me ...would be unfair...taking away from some one not as fortunate..but if I could I'd give ya some tips
  18. Here we return to the DEC responsibility...for doing any of those things on state land would be ..correct me...illegal....The DEC has to start actually managing the states lands for better habitat....for could you imagine the ...'Cluster..." that would ensue if ppl started doing this at random on state land.... hunter49...I believe a lot more than you may think...I plot because I just plain ole enjoy planting things ...cutting wood....experimenting and improving our lands..it is just plainly put a hobby...like snowmobiling...skiing..neither to which I care for...like every year I plan and build a new tree stand or elevated blind or ground blind...I couldn't possible hunt all the I think 30+ I'm up to now every year...but I just luv the challenge....out of 4 kills this year only one deer was any where near a food plot.. I think there are a lot of guys....probably not gals..but guys just like me out there
  19. Also Check out the mineral rights situation....
  20. Do you know way this is so very true?....Think about it...dairy...goat..pig farmers won't allow ppl into their enclosed stock areas ...especially those that visit other farms ...with out putting on sterile booties...yet ppl can routinely visit enclosed deer farms with absolutely no protection and leave that area to walk God knows where with the same shoes on...potentially spreading disease.... Now before this gets into a battle here....lets be honest or realistic...not every business ..what ever it may be or regulations it's under is always on the up and up...doing everything they are suppose to do in a timely manner nor without cutting corners
  21. Too bad NYS doesn't do test...a 2-5 acre food plot with cams and a 50# bag of corn with cams on a property 1/4 mile away....because I know they rarely visited my plots during shooting hours and my cams show them routinely hitting water troughs and food plots 10pm-2am and 7pm and 5am....13plots and it's the same on all of them Now I don't bait but lets say I assume there are a couple around us that do....they seem to be getting some great deer on cams during the day and tag out early almost every year with no plots...who knows
  22. ....title search....land access....he could have debt against it already...just questions for a lawyer to discover ...Good Luck
  23. Great job!........pieces to be proud of for sure...
  24. planting....building...wood working...hiking...cutting wood...sewing...reading just about every thing except romance and anything mechanical....
  25. I just received my new Habit hunting jacket and pants from Cabala's...I have light weight and extreme weight camo but not a mid weight that is water and wind proof...the Jacket was marked down to 24.99(90.00) and pants 39.00(110.00) ...with silver tech and it's very quiet....I wore it today when going down to take care of the chickens...dragging a 100#'s of food on a tarp150 yrds....felt just comfortable in 44 degrees.with light nylon work out pants and shirt...the jacket has a fleece lining...
