Yup a rutting buck will kill you in a heartbeat. Im sure John was using the blowgun to tranq the doe to put cidr's in to sync the does so they all come in at the same time!

John is a very good friend of mine and a customer, he has the best and freshest scent you will find in Ny state. I know he brings his doe's into estrus before he collects,,Doe In Heat. Many guys just collect urine during the month of Oct and Nov and call it estrus lure. Far from it. I have shot mature bucks the last 3 bow seasons running as they were bird dogging a scent trail i laid down with John's scent. Most people do not know how and when to use scents but once you learn it and watch bucks react to it you will never hunt from Nov 3rd thru the 17th without a fresh bottle in your pack. I know i never will.

I think it all depends on the person. Myself, i wont sit all day with the bow untill the mature bucks are on their feet all day. Its a tough sit to go dark to dark. Hunting both ends of the state i never sit all day here on the farm because something that needs to be done pulls me away but on my trips down state between Trick Or Treat and opening of shotgun, the deer dictate.

Agreed but feeding is a very small part of the total package. Many call taking a deer hunting when in fact most harvests are just killing. Unless you pick out a mature deer or two and hunt those and only those deer, the word hunting get stretched a bit at times. IMO

Can say i feel your pain and have been there. I do the same just S.S.S although i have a farm with animals and nightly visits from the pack as well. I contacted some guys that run dogs and let them run the dogs and snowmobiles on the farm the last couple winters. Pack numbers have dropped big time. Keep stackin them up!

Really??? Do you have any clue of the laws of Texas? Do you think hunting top end deer on 5,10,15 thousand acres of property is not hunting? Texas is a prime example of what a state can do when the Govt works with the farmers and sportsmen of that state. Success!!!

Yes just like Texas. Baiting allowed, landowners can release whitetails on their property and have some of the best hunting in the world. Success!

Kinda sound like less hunters= less tags that will be gave out. If there are less people looking for tags then you would think some area's nobody would be turned down?

Hunters Encouraged to Apply Early for Deer Management PermitsThe Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) reminded hunters to apply for deer management permits (DMPs) this week, ahead of the October 1 deadline, DEC Commissioner Joe Martens announced today. "In addition to providing enjoyable days afield with family and friends and sustainably harvested food on the table, recreational deer hunting is our most effective deer population management tool," said Commissioner Martens. "Hunters are eligible to apply for up to two deer management permits once they have secured a hunting license, allowing them to harvest antlerless deer to keep deep populations in line with established objectives." DEC's wildlife biologists carefully analyze harvest information in conjunction with deer population objectives, developed with valuable input from citizen task forces, to establish deer management permit quotas for each Wildlife Management Unit (WMU). WMUs are the geographical units DEC uses to set hunting and trapping seasons in New York State. New York hunters can apply for up to two deer management permits once they have secured a hunting license. DEC's computerized licensing system allows hunters to immediately learn the outcome of their permit application. The likelihood that a hunter will be selected for a permit is largely based on the number of deer management permits to be issued in a Wildlife Management Area and the number of hunters that historically apply for those permits. To date, applications for deer management permits have been slightly lower than in previous years. "Deer management permits for the 2014-15 hunting season have been available since the first week of August and we want to encourage hunters to apply for deer management permits in advance of the October 1 deadline," Commissioner Martens said.

I guess that way of thinking could go right along with leasing land from a group of hunters. If you dont think we live in a dog eat dog world where the biggest way of thinking is me,me,me then i believe you will be shocked to see where we..Hunting..will be in a few short years. I think baiting will be the least of our worries!

No hormones, No anti's unless needed for sicknesss. Big deer are made by matching up pedigrees just like breeding dogs. Most are dna'd in todays world. They have only ever found prions in the brain stem and lymph node in the throat. CWd has never killed a deer behind fence and to my knowledge only deer in research have died from it because they kept them in controlled areas and alive long enough to die from it. 99.9% of deer that have CWD are killed by a hunters bullet or his front bumper. That is a fact! No stiring needed to ask questions about something you dont know. Thats how we all learn. Not sure on your spinal tap idea would work or not but at least now they are doing research on the animals before depopulating any animals! But the truth is there are many more vectors moving CWD than just live deer and they need to be addressed!

So one study is not good enough for you to show that CWD prions can be shipped across the states via hay and corn to farms all across the country to infect the land the feed lands on but the fact that no CWD prions have been found in urine or saliva in whitetails you are ok with the shut down of their movement. Is this how i am reading your thoughts? You look at the studies and you see them say that deer..Most Likely..transfer the prions. But then they say they can not test live whitetail's urine or saliva for the prions. Strange would'nt ya say?

So your ok with the shipment of Alfalfa and grains out of a CWD hot zone that has been PROVEN to move the prion but you say deer piss has to be stopped when they cant even test piss for CWD so there is no PROVEN fact that it does move the prion? I would have to guess you are working on your agenda also!

Great post. Also when you throw in Bait, the dumbest deer in the woods..ie.1/2 year old buck.and kill that buck with a high power rifle you just took all the sport of hunting out of the equation. At least it does in my book. But you did harvest an animal.

Yup and every bird,yote or god knows what eats the stuff and flies it 3 miles this way and 6 miles that way. But no some closed minds say its all the deer in the trucks and do away with them will do away with the problem. Those days are coming to a quick end and the blame will be shifted to its rightful owner!

Just showing the facts and by the looks of it there are going to be many that do not like the facts they end up seeing. I dont know why you keep bringing up money? Our success just shows the demand that is there and that success is what many cant handle. Trust me, our bottom line has not changed through all of this. I like your thoughts that you say farmers can ship semen but not deer. That goes right along with Andy telling you what gun or how many bullets you can use!
