  1. And this post shows why Ny will always be at the bottom of the list of hunting states. Guess you must be to young to remember the paper days where we had to mail half of the tag back to the state. The check stations can be as simple as a local archery store, corner market or gas station. Look up Michigan and see how simple it is. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Right you are not going to stop people from poaching but by having to mail in unused tags it would give DEC more room to work. If someone gets caught with meat but no report or tag mailed back in..Bingo..Busted. Plus most with not poach 3-4-5 deer a year.
  3. Not my thing to be getting involved in any of those issues. They are not effecting my hunting in any way. The way i see it in Ny DEC does not want to make laws and rules for the better then its on them. Kinda like the state trowing all these gun laws to so call protect things.
  4. Every deer and hunter has to go to a check station in their area....You let a cop start asking a wife or kid where she shot or what caliber and such questions and you will see them get scared and fold or they will tell their husband to screw off and he is not putting them thru that for a deer. I can promise ya the DEC would have a pile of new cash in their Fine kitty. You dont report a deer you better be sending those tags back...No tags back or reported deer and you get Sh!t for tags next year period!
  5. Well lets see...You have a husband hunter...Now you have wife with 3-4 tags...Now you have a couple kids that you put in the class..now thats another 6-8 tags. I know many, Some kill 2-3 great bucks every year and some kill 4-5 baby bucks every year on top of a pile of does. That comes out to less hunter and less deer. Until DEC gets a full handle on the herd they have no clue how to run the show. That wont happen until all deer and tags are accounted for. Or law changes like 1 buck a year per hunter.
  6. Another great season here. Had all season to spend at camp and here at home to hunt. Took one of the hit list bucks and filled up 3 doe tags. Had a blast from the start. Bad note would be the low number of deer anymore in the North and the way the leaders down at Letchworth are ruining the great, great area that that place is. They believe they have no new forest growth because of deer when really the numbers are way down from normal. When you have no sunshine hitting the ground you will get no new growth. Rules stop them from doing any habitat work when that in fact is the biggest issue they have there.
  7. Agree with most. The representative part you speak of represents a very bad genetic herd. Whitetails in Ny are pretty much near the bottom. Even in my closed herd in Ny using the same blood as a farm say in Iowa,Ohio,Kansas i cant make the same size deer. I have 160-180 inch yearlings every year on a regular basis by breeding great bloodlines and selective breeding where they have 180-200 Whitetails can be so much beter than we see in this state thats for sure. Your right about the 8 point buck thinking but thats because thats the only crappy breeding we have ever known.
  8. Funny how the hunting classes are filled up at every stop yet hunter numbers keep dropping? Thats because half the kids and wives are filling those seats for their husbands and dads. Its a huge problem in Ny with hunters filling family tags. We need it a law that all deer need to be checked in and all unused tags sent back in like the old days. That, Along with 1 buck a season per hunter with it being their choice what weapon to kill it with. We as hunters are doing nothing to help the deer population and herd health for the most part. Way to long of seasons and way to many tags being handed out.
  9. This is another crock of heated crap. The drive for huge bucks is gone or going nowhere. You think guys run cam's to look for little bucks and does to shoot? Same with food plot; and antler restricts. Problem is a lot of Ny hunters are on the lazy side. The ones that dont have doe tags can drive an hour or two from home and fill their freezer and complain if they cant shoot baby bucks. These same hunters have the best equipment and computers and every other nice things in life so a few dollars in gas and maybe a room for a couple days sure wont break them.
  10. Most hunters that hunt high fence are very busy people that have very busy lives and make more money than most Nyer's ever will. I have seen company's send their best employees out on hunts. Company cuts the 100 grand check and 5 guys go have the best 5 days of their lives. Then on the other spectrum you have a pile of Ny hunters that have no problem dropping 2-3 grand on a hunt because they first have no place to hunt and second where they hunt they have no deer. The 130-150 inch buck they get plus the 3-5 days of steaks, lobster and hot tubs are just the perks. Many don't want the headache of owning land and dealing with it and many are 50 plus year old hunters. You young guys are going to be getting the shock in 20 years from now when most all hunting will be done behind fence. Ny screws up so many things when it comes to hunting. Prime example is right here at Letchworth park. They now took away the antler restricts. They opened up the park to as many hunters that want to come and they hand out damage tags to farmers to shoot all night and on top of that kill with sharp shooters. This park will be the next..... Used to be a great place to hunt. Ny DEC has no clue how to manage our herd or make our seasons to be better for both man and animal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. They are moving over here on the West side but man that snow and dragging up hills is a killer. We are now seeing groups of deer running together. A buck was shot this morning walking with 3 other bucks. Things are winding down.
  12. That's the point. Pretty open ended subject when one talks fair chase. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Fair chase??? Let's not forget about that bale of Alfalfa you will shooting that 300lbs buck from! When there is no Alfalfa with a couple hundred mikes of the place Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Fair chase has a huge amount of air in between the words. Fair chase is not hi tech cams sending you pics to your phone to come and shoot me? Many that bad mouth the high fence could not kill a buck pre picked out in a weeks time. That has been proven many times. It all comes down to land amounts pure and simple. 15. Lol. Just the thought of many. They would have no problem shooting the same deer. It's the writing the check part that they have an issue with. Multi million dollar industry that only grows every year. I for one look forward to the growth. I can't raise enough as it is and after being able to retire in my 40's and having every day being a choice of me doing whatever it is I want to do I sure don't want to have to go get a job! 16. And the more and more the DEC screws up the deer herd the more preserves are used. Many of the better preserves in the state are sold out or low on numbers. Its kinda a double edged sword for me, I hate to see the herd disappearing every year but i sure like selling out my animals every year$
  17. Most dont but DEC says there are deer behind every tree and gives ya months to hunt them.
  18. Livingston -Wyoming Cty. Hope to be able to show a pic of one here the next week of Muzzy hunting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. There are many preserve bucks in the books now. Truth of the matter is if you look at most of the states that top the books are also the state that holds the most deer farms. It's a fact that many guys in those states have let great farm doe fawns out of their pens into the wild when numbers get high. The Amish are still known to do this a lot in many states even today. Ohio is on record for buying farm deer way back when when the states numbers were slim to none and released into the wild. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. LOL....Or had to quick throw the blame on someone after the word got out?
  21. Kinda what I figured. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. True that. Also remember that for the person with the means, Car,Time,Cash for gas..There is some of the best hunting out there for free. Cant tell ya how many call me a fool for not hunting the 900 plus acres of decent hunting to travel 2-3 hours to hunt state land. A guy does not need to spend the extra cash to buy land.........But it is a very nice feeling of knowing you can fall back on it.
  23. There is a weapon in every truck and every tractor on all my properties 24/7. Always ready be it man or animal.
  24. True but dead is dead. The deer that use our plots are pretty much evening deer and come about the same each evening. I make it a point to make sure our local bucks have feed thru out the early winter and early spring before green up. Nothing hurts a bucks following year rack than coming out of winter hungry and weak in the body. All his effort will go to getting his body back before much goes to the antlers. We have many that winter on us and close by so they can get to the free eats at will.
