I hunt an Ar area for the last few years and its done nothing but improve the herd and the buck age group. Still plenty of legal bucks. Many that are off limits and has improved the mature buck numbers in a big way. Not sure where the bad is in that area.

Well maybe that would take care of your problem of not seeing deer on Public land? Some hunters will never find deer on any land because they just dont do what it takes to find and get them. I hunt a lot of state land and see plenty of animals. It will always be a 50-50 thing between hunters that want the best and biggest challenge in the woods and those that want to kill the first deer they see and get back to drinking and football, Family, Work, what have you. I think Ny is heading in the right direction and i think those at the top are starting to see what we can offer in the hunting world with their emails and comments on letting the little ones walk. Now to get them to adjust the dates and the implements used at what time!

Agree to a point but the times have changed and we must change with them. We used to have a camp in the Dak's years ago when there were still a decent number of deer there. Now the big woods camp is gone and the camp is now if the deer rich part of the state for obvious reasons. I dont really believe antler restricts would put many out of business that were not about to get out some time soon for other reasons. A hunter is a hunter and will do what it takes to continue being a hunter. Now the future of hunting is up for grabs but with todays hunters teaching their kids what deer management is all about and taking care of them to make them to be mature animals will have a very bright future in their hunting lives.

Yup his problem would have been solved regardless.

I know many. I also know of some that love to fill the rest of their families tags for them.Tighten up some rules and things would change for the better.

Shoot young bucks to let older ones mature
Four Season Whitetail's replied to nyslowhand's topic in Deer Hunting
To get big deer you dont need Ar although it is a great tool. You need shorter seasons, no guns in any part of the Rut and make it a law that all animals must be brought to a check station with unused tags returned. Then you would have big deer and would not have the same few filling their whole families deer tags with spikes and 4's. -

I think you are missing the true truth in breeding. That 4 point could father one of the biggest bucks on the place with good bred does. She has a pile to do with what her son will turn out to be. -
Ar does help make bigger bucks but it really helps in the stopping the brown and down shooters who unload on every deer they lay eyes on. I would rather see the season shortened and no guns in any part of the Rut. That would be as good and probably better for the herd.

Yeah Man!!!!!! -
So True. We took like 9 out so far between the camps which is on the low side. We did a little 3 man walk around and took 2 out of 17 moved. The deer are there for the most part but once the banging starts they sure know how to make themselves disappear. That keeps them there year after year. Did see 2 very nice bucks that were taken but that was it for any size. The game has just started though and now when this weather passes i am sure we will load a few more.

Very few hunting. Bucks are going strong Hunted the farm this morning and one of the guys killed a buck, went down the hill to get the pickup and 2 of our target bucks..11 and 8pt were going at it right in the Beefers pasture. The 11 had mouth wide open and go his tail beat by the 8. Then coming back in the Castile gate there was a pretty 9pt dogging a doe in the Everett Farm corn field and he was keeping her with him at all cost. 72 degrees at 2pm and he was still looking for some tail. Shotgun should be interesting!

They are in lockdown mode here now. The big ones anyways. Have seen 3 smokers the last couple days with does locked down. Watched a beauty 9 with a doe down in the swale for a good hour and that boy was like a quarter horse. She would try to run and he would cut her off every time. Was pretty cool to sit above them and watch them do their thing. Shotgun should be interesting! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

NY Crossbow Letters of Support

LOL...Thats why the story came from an old timer. There are very few new members and many of them own a crossbow also i'm sure. -
I will once again be found in the bowels of Letchworth with my tack driver Mossy 20. Will be hanging by 5-530 and will be sitting pretty all day if that's needed. If not i will be spending the rest of the day hauling out the cape, rack and loins the first trip out and the rest on the second go around. The second is so much easier because its always a change into sneakers and jeans for the last trip down.

NY Crossbow Letters of Support

And lets not think we dont have to know yardage or have to worry about deflection just like every other aspect of archery hunting. I can get a think to hold my bow at full draw and i would bet there are even scopes to be had if wanted bad enough. In my opinion i dont know why someone with a compound would care if crossbow was included the full season when as it stands the crossbow has the best part of the archery season in the month of November? -

Done! A Gun? Really? Sure give it its own season like right in with the rest of the gear that kills with string and arrow! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Yes it does suck but many will still make it thru the onslaught and grow to be beasts. The young ones that hang around the easy to get to spots will be taken out but the fact still remains that the hunters that are our kind of hunters, The ones that leave the sight of their truck or love the river will still not kill a little guy and then have to get it out of there. Ar does work in places like this. I believe its more that the deer numbers are up for the restricts taken off as to deer being left behind. These park guys dont leave their cars very much and for them to know whats left in the woods??? Not buying that! Dale that 10 was the same buck. maybe we will cross paths yet as i will be here till Thanksgiving anyways for this trip.

Lol. You have to read the park rules. No repelling in the park. This year just as many brutes have came from the top as have from the bottom. The East side is much bigger than the West if you have never seen it. You will encounter less hunters on the East! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Lol. You were not supposed to put that thing on here. Lol. Now we will have all the Riff Raff down here. lol. Couple of the guys on here seen the pics of most of what we have taken off the park so far. It's is a tad warm for my liking. That 10pt there wanted to be a 12 with a couple short kickers. Very pretty Buck! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You want some of the best you would be smart to use North Country Scents. True fresh scent. Real doe in estrus collected in their 55-63 hour breeding window.
-
Not a problem. They are another tool to use. Took a doe tonight with the crossbow and can tell ya that its not a cake walk. Getting that thing up and down in the tree is a pain Genesee, You should put that trail cam pic up. I bet some would enjoy that. You can put up the video i sent ya from this morning if ya like. I am not much for putting things up here?

As long as its about hunting i welcome it. lol
