Dove Locations & Numbers in NY
Four Season Whitetail's replied to mike rossi's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
LOL....Unless i really did get some cronic weed i believe this conversation is about Doves not Pheasants? I would also like to know where they sit in Jefferson or St Law County to see those numbers of Doves. I was born in raised in St Law. have hunted 1000,s of acres of both private and state land there, Have over 800 acres here on top of being on Ft Drum and 300 acres in Livingston County along with Letchworth and i would guess if i have seen 10 birds i have seen a lot. Add that to the viewing of birds by members even on this site and i cant say that is a prolific bird. If a season was made so be it but trying to find a hunting population would take some doing. Now back to this cronic...Where do you get yours? Doves-Pheasants?- 32 replies

No we are not because the vermin did not repopulate like you said it would and they did not just breed more and bring their numbers back up. Now they are just the floaters. We do not have packs yipping and yapping on 3 corners of the property. We do not see them during daylight any longer and the biggest thing i can show you to prove that we are no where near where we were is that you can now see deer and turkeys in the fields. That did not happen back where we started.
-
Again i can only tell ya what 100% facts that happened on my ground. Had very few yotes and had plenty of deer, year or two later the yote population blew up and deer numbers dropped., Next year and there are no deer to speak of and yotes everywhere.Livestock killed with pets and peopled moved in on. Killed every animal on site 365 with crazy numbers of vermin killed with all means, mothers and pups destroyed at the den and the yote problem was gone next year or two the whitetails and turkeys were back in great numbers. Now 2-3 years later we are just starting to see a number of vermin around again but this time we jumped on them before they could get a foothold and start dining again. Fact is that they will wipe out your hunting by eating your fawns and running your adults and fact is if you wipe them off a piece of property in all out warfare you will not see them back for a couple years in any kind of problem numbers. No book just 100% actual fact that happened on this piece of property.

I cant go back far enough to prove your words but i believe you were on that CWD in the urine bandwagon with a few others. Anyways i did find these posts from the other yote lover on this site that kinda proves my words from earlier today. Lightning Rod Members 1153 posts LocationOtsego County Posted 25 July 2015 - 08:29 PM Rob - That is so 19th century. So simple. I've read a number of your posts. This is extreme - even for you. They aren't hell dogs, they are God's dogs. Have you ever taken the time to watch them, or do you just shoot first and not ask questions later? od Members 1153 posts LocationOtsego County Posted 26 July 2015 - 06:12 AM The Navaho refer to the coyote as "God's dog". I happen to agree with them. Another one of Gods animals. Find it hard to kill animals huh?
-
See that just your problem. My eradication is based on 100% boots on the ground facts. We lived it. We saw it. We dealt with it. We had our animals killed by vermin. We had are pets and people threatened by the vermin. We paid 100's of 1000's of dollars for a prime piece of property with wildlife galore. Have you ever done any of these things? No you sure the frig have not! What is delusional is you trying to tell us that have the problem in black and white that we dont have a problem because you read it in a book somewhere. You were also one of those guys that said CWD could be spread by a whitetail deer because you read in a book somewhere that a scientist somewhere injected CWD prions into whitetail deer urine and then induced it into another host. You were proven to be delusional on that case also. You really need to stick to the books. You say these people that used to see few if any coyotes on their cams but did have piles of wildlife pics, that now have a pile of pics of 4-6 vermin in their food plots but are seeing no more wildlife are delusional also? Bullshit. Their problems are just getting started and you are seeing more and more of them on this site alone..That is common sense. As to your saying we are not now maintaining is also bull as vermin was taken on this property both Fri and Sat night to callers. Hunters with dogs and Artic cats every weekend will run down a problem during the winter, Open season year around and special treats around the den sites will take care of an over population the first year. After that the next year or two you will see few to none and the following year open season 365 will keep them in check. While at the same time you will have the wildlife on your property that you really want. Thats taken right out of the book of reality! No one will ever suffer any consequences by not having any vermin on their property ever again! Fact!

We get that kind of snow a couple times a month and ya sweep off the truck and move on. Down there life stops. Funny how a couple hours one way or the other can have such different results.
-
I believe its more like some of believe that coyotes in high numbers have no use on 'Their" piece of the ecosystem because of the useless destruction they cause. There are plenty of other less destructive animals that will do the same job with less harm to their forest neighbors. If one is to get on a few other states hunting websites and read how their land, That they paid thousands of dollars for. is now that the wolf has been thrown back on the landscape. I believe it makes a big difference how one feels about destruction of a piece of property if that person was the one that had to cut the check for that land.
-
Well if i am a gas bag i am one that tells real true life facts. I talk real world, seen with our own eyes and dealt with coyote problems. I discredit you and him for the fact that you both are self admitting non coyote hunters that only really know what they have read in a book and have only dealt with coyotes when there was not an over population problem that involved dead farm animals and threat to pets and humans. I dont really give a rats ass what either one of you say about what your books say that cant and dont happen when i in fact know they did and do. I dont care what you think he knows about deer and wildlife. I have lived with deer and wildlife for 40 years and have lived with the ones on pieces of properties of 800 acres at one end of the state and 300 acres at the other for over 20 of those years so i dont need a book reader to tell me what does or does not happen. I really dont care what kind of a hunter you say you are. Your words speak loud and clear on this site of what kind of hunter you are, If you are. Kinda like one of those camera hunters i guess, That reads books!

Dove Locations & Numbers in NY
Four Season Whitetail's replied to mike rossi's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
So let me get this right. For 1, Are they counting these birds 3 years in a row in late December when they know populations will be down instead of doing it when numbers my be better? Number 2 you really think with say 135 birds seen in the 1000.Island area and then 205 seen 70 miles away in the Canton/Potsdam area that that is really a huntable population? Sounds more like a protected bird numbers.- 32 replies

If you owned a big enough piece of property to learn and know whats going on with the wildlife you may see the real world. Your outdated book research is a joke. From you rambling on that there cant be more than 1 family on a property or more than 1 alpha, Thats a joke! I could go on but why bother. like i said before, I will take my knowledge from someone that that puts boots to the ground, Not someone that takes to a book. You should hook up with the other yote lover on here, between you two you could really write up a hell of a fiction book on what you think yotes do and dont do. In the mean time i will enjoy my property and useful wildlife without any useless vermin!
-
HaHa..Touched a soft spot huh. Dont worry, Your words alone speak volume and one can tell who is a hunter and knows the game they hunt and speak of and then one knows who speaks from reading some outdated material. We all on this site know who the hunter is and who the book reader in in this conversation. Now its antlers because i hate a coyote? I told ya before, I have no problem with a coyote. As long as it is not on my property. Kinda like trespassers. I have no use for them or the problems they cause.
-
I could keep throwing up the same picture of the same deer hanging in the same barn and call myself a hunter without ever shooting a gun. That dont cut it. You words alone point you in the SPCA direction on about every post on this site. Its save the world, Save the animal on most of your words on this site. Leave the hunting and hunting advice to those that really hunt.the animals we speak of.
-
You are probably right. I dont feed the useless vermin that are made for nothing but harm. I watch them but most times its not for very long. I like how you dodge the question Grow threw at ya. Just strengthens our theory! I bet if you use your friend Google you could find a nice recipe for those Mice.
-
Ha..We dont even know if this guy really hunts. Puts up a few pics that show a deer hanging yet speaks like a SPCA spokesperson. Thats what we see from the posts that he puts up. Whatever!
-
Info coming from a guy that admits he does not hunt or shoot coyotes is a little less than useless! You read a book a believe the words. I bet your a firm believer that CWD can be transmitted by deer in their urine because the book told you its possible yet never proven in over 50 years? Thats the kind of info a hunting site gets from guys like you.Kinda like getting deer hunting tips from a 2 weekend a year deer hunter. Let the people that really see, touch and feel coyotes give the truths.
-
Very True. Many will complain about no deer yet do nothing to protect them. Cant say i would if i didnt have a vested $ interest in the game. The love of the animal(deer)has to be pretty strong to go to any extreme to protect them and the sport they offer. Most 1-2-3 weekend a year state land deer hunters will not go to any effort. I can say as far as harvests that many a yotes could be taken during turkey season if one was so inclined to do so.
-
I would much rather get my info from a hunting site by a guy that lives, hunts and deals with real life problems then by a book smart guy that does not even hunt coyotes so is pretty much clueless. We can only hope that some day you walk out your door and find a dozen of your sheep killed without even being ate on like my neighbor did a couple years back. Maybe the state of Pa has enough hunter info and facts that these so called long term coyote studies now hold very little water and are willing to do something about the problem. To say you cant wipe them out because they just breed back is years apart. Running dogs,Trapping, Shooting during deer season,Shooting during Turkey season and a couple other treats in different areas and you will put a damper on them that they all but disappear for a couple years and that will do amazing things to the desired wildlife in the area. I am also sure that they have problem areas in their state as we do here. They will live in numbers where the living is the best.
-
You my friend are in the middle stage of your problem, only to get worse. When is the last time you saw Rabbits or game birds on great pieces of property? We used to have piles of them here also. You will never dent them with normal hunting season. You and other land owners have a problem and know it? Call in the dogs and Snowmobiles. You will be shocked what they drag off that property the first few hunts.
-
You have to remember who you are talking to there Grow. He has never had the pleasure of gutting a deer, with blood to your elbows and a flashlight in your mouth during bow season only to have 3 yotes casing you and having one come in huffing and showing teeth. Nah that crap dont happen in some of these worlds. They like to read books, and go back to 5-10 year old studies. Just shows some have no clue what a real problem is.
-
So they say they prey heavy on fawns in the spring and summer. So a crazy number of dogs on say a 1000 acre piece of land could very well wipe out 3/4 or more of that years fawns crop on that piece of property. Tell me that that will not have a huge negative effect on a piece of property and ruin a properties hunting? Wrong. You let that go on for a couple years with fawns and then add in adult kills on top of hunting and natural selection and you soon have a piece of property with no whitetails to speak of.
-
LOL..Sorry i proved all your book reading wrong but such is life. The people do a couple studies and think there is no other way or that they cant be wrong. The one thing i will tell everyone reading these words, If you own or hunt a good chunk of land and have for years to now notice that your good wildlife sightings and sign is down yet your vermin has gone sky high you have the begining of a big problem or already have one. Let go and they will continue to grow until you have no game left. If you already noticed that you have no small game on top of low numbers of large then you know why.
-
Just my point. Trail cam will tell ya what time a buck is walking by so you can go Shoot it. Not hunt it. Drone will show you where a buck is bedded so you can set up to get him killed. Not hunt him. Using the word you, I mean hunters in general. Not pointing at you. All and all its just a tool to make killing easier and take the word hunt of of the picture. The days of sitting and watching a buck, scouting his moves and setting up to kill that buck are gone by the wayside.
-
Dude your so full of shit its a joke. You say there cant be more than one alpha on a property when there can be 2-3 on a 1000 acre piece of property. You read where there can be males living right inside a family group without being in that family group. Bottom line is your full of shit if you think coyotes have not and will not ruin a piece of property. Of freakin course they had great food because they were eating my whitetails and turkeys. I blew them up with every means possible 365 days a year and problem was solved. Like i said before...You watch the posts on here that are coming from the 2-3 guys on here that are saying they are seeing more vermin on their cams than they are wildlife. They will decimate the herd and the flocks in no time if not dealt with pronto. This crap of only 1 family group living on a property is a joke.. They all may be touch hole related down the line somewhere. I dont hate all coyotes, only the ones on my property. They are useless creatures that the world would not miss if they all just fell of the face of the earth. There are plenty other animals that do the same job without the destruction. Its obvious you dont have a clue or dealt with real life vermin issues. You want to come north this weekend you will see how fast any of these new family groups that moved in will hang out. Have you ever seen a Dog get ran down by a Cat and be rolled by a load of Double 00 buck on the way past. Sweet. You keep up on those books and let those in the know deal with real life issues.
-
No doubt they will/have been used. Trail cams tell ya when deer are walking by and that was ok'ed. A guy will fly a swamp and see whats in there and if he likes the looks of it he will get some guys together and drive it. I guess it would work better with snow on the ground as far as seeing. They let ya shoot pigs out of choppers for numbers control. Hunting is gone by the wayside from what it ever was. Now everything is designed to make it easier to kill and control. Not Hunt!

Hunting Public and private land
Four Season Whitetail's replied to Buckmaster7600's topic in Deer Hunting
Just shy of 800 acres up here and i spend most of my season down on Letchworth. I am just as picky on both properties and i find the big racked mature deer i seek on the park year in and year out.
