  1. its not just remington, henry, and kimber. there are many other shops/factories in NY that supply parts to the industry. there is a sheet metal fab shop in the southren tier that makes high capacity clips for ruger, sig, and several other manufacturers. 30+ jobs in a very economicly depressed area. how many jobs are they truly risking? we cant afford to loose any then mister andy decides to alienate one of the few thriving industries left in NY. these workers are my customers, hell of a line of dominos hes started tumbling.
  2. Then there is the ad supporting his 'budget that controls taxing'. something tells me he hasnt figured out how to pay for this 'safe act'. damn near bankrupt canada, it was so costly that they repealed it just to keep from becoming insolvent. the answers are there just have to look back in history recent and distant, hopefully they dont get repeated.
  3. a toaster oven??? Thats awsome!!! maybe i need to rethink putting my daughters easy bake on ebay!
  4. I Think hes already watching, isnt that him on the tv? anyway nice piece how does it perform?
  5. thanks for the insight. just hopped over to midway the weavers seem to be at that same price point, so it wont help me with the misses!
  6. how do the new weavers work in low/no light? i have an old k10 (steel tube) on my savage 340 in 222 wood chuck gun and hope all my scopes hold up as long as it has. but it is a sunny day open field type of set up.
  7. if your triggers that rough it will be well worth the investment, but beware the first couple of times at the range. in picked up a ruger #1 with a very light well worked trigger, pointed it down range, loaded a round, shouldered it, put my finger on the trigger and off it went. im so use to creep then resistance it trully caught me off guard and startled the crap out of me. 100 rounds later i was much more settled with it but it still sits formost in mind when i pick up the gun. so what did you find for bullets that work in your '06?
  8. Tasco, center point, nc star, and some very bottom end bushnells. my worst expirance was with a tasco. i was in some very tall thick pines on a heavy overcast afternoon. a decent 6 point popped out at 75 yrds could see him without the scope, couldnt pick him up in the scope, too dark. with the nikkons ive shot 2 yotes at night (clear half moon snow on the ground) no light on. the light gathering capabilitys of an upper level scope is well night and day. the nikkons and leupold are at the lowest price point of quality ive found so far. if you know of any less then $100 that can gather that type of light PLEASE speak up. its getting tuff to explain to the misses that my $400 gun turned into a $700 plus adventure!
  9. how about venison sausage gravy and homemade biscuits?
  10. Did anyone else see page 80 of this months american rifleman? chris cox holding 3 checks. 2 of which for over $800,000 signed by rohm emanuel. legal fees for having to defend bad laws against civil rights. to bad rohm couldn't have been there for the photo op!
  11. time for my 2 cents. my 14yr old has been eligable to bow hunt for 2 years. however its been just a few months hes been able to draw a 45lbs compound (might be wrong but i believe thats the minimum) with a crossbow he could have been in the field sooner. practice time is hard to come by particularly late summer early fall (football, soccer, field hockey, cheer leading) so being closer in function to a rifle then a recurve can make for a better outing. my opinion hunt with whatever works, just get out and hunt. i have a much better idea borrowed form other states, early season is primitive, long and recurve, flintlock and cap and ball, regular season anything goes, late season inlines, compouds, and cross bows. i picked up bow hunting to lengthen deer season but would be more comfortable stock and trigger. its all like the new gun law, let me use what I'M comfortable using, not what YOU think i should use. there that ought to stir things up!!
  12. if you want opinions we have them... all good of course!
  13. oh yes! my kids and i love venison parm. beat the steaks thin ( i use an estwing framer) italian seasoning, egg wash, seasoned panko bread crumbs. fry em up in a cast iron pan cover with assiago, parm, and sauce. toss in oven till hot, serve over favorite pasta. oh my i think it dinner time.....
  14. my beagle mixes are hansel and greddel. Best hunting dogs i ever had. very smart. they will stand under your feet while you cooking and keep trying to trip you til you drop food. plus they find the crumbs of the floor before you can get the broom. scared to death of squirrels rabbits and other small critters but perk right up at deer bear and fedex carriers (the ups guy and the mail man bring treats!)
  15. 2 things ive learned 1st, never buy a scope in a bubble pack,(boxed only) second, dont be suprised if you have as much money in glass as you do the gun. i have several nikkons and a couple of leupolds and an assortment of cheapys. if you are depending on the gun cant go wrong with nikkon or leupold. if its a cost issue stick with the iron sights until it not an issue.
  16. wow that brings back BAD memorys. hope everyone is safe.
  17. if you cant work it out with hunt id be interested. let me know.
  18. my oldest has been fishing the genny from smithville north with a buddy of his. the flood didnt seem to have much effect. still some stockys and some natives. the otselic is another matter. fished it some some this spring very little activity except for the walley i caught near pitcher... not real big but never caught one that far north. kinda odd.
  19. yep. it had its rebirth during the second presidential debate. when the all caring lib lady stood up and asked what are they going to do with those nasty aks and other 'assault' weapons. The scary part was obama acted as if that was all taken care of and the cheap hand guns were the real problem. yep the scripts already written, life fills in the blanks and we get dumped on. gotta love politics.
  20. time for im a dumb *** story. i hunted with a cheap walmart inline with scope i bought in 05. in 09 loaded it and hunted all season with no luck. in 2010 my buddy and i decided rustic would be more entertaining and i bought a hawkins copy cap and ball in a 54. with a very rough regular season we had we tried some new areas for muzzle loader. so i pulled my inline back out to take advantage of having a scope. opening morning we get to our new place. pulled the gun out and stuck the ramer in. good thing. it still had the load from 2010 in it. worst part was in the rush to get going that morning i left the breech plug wrench in the gun case. well nothing else to do but go hunting. after a day of the deer winning the game of hide and seek, we were walking out and a grouse jumped and landed about 50yrds ahead in an opening. yes i did and the gun fired. not only was i shocked it went off, but i wacked its noggin. so yes they will go off after near 3 seasons. not recommended but it was a tasty grouse.
  21. this all comes back to an upstate down state thing. you might see 3 leos per mile but here in rural upstate we end up with 4 to 6 leos patrolling 100s of sqaure miles. the last time i needed help from the authorities it was a 12 min response time, very under staffed. now when the patrols get to there call they are normally a few minutes ahead of back up so they need the tools to do there jobs as needed. however this is why WE need the same tools to protect US. a hell bent crack addict, or a sick bastard trying to do wrong can get alot of mayhem done in 12 minutes. something downstate politicions cant dont or wont understand. so yes bring more cops on board, tool them to do the job, but remember its up to us to protect our and are own so leave my second amendment alone... just my thoughts.
  22. when we change to rifle here, this became a hot topic. With me i was looking for a lite, compact rifle to use in the trees and brush. i started with a mini 30. compact, lite, a nice package in my opinion. until i got a shot a medium doe. the cross hairs were on the edge of the front shoulder. we found small drops of blood every 20 to 30 yards, for over 1 1/2 miles according to the gps. we started on state land, then to posted property under occupied tree stands (yep made alot of friends). at that point we lost the blood trail, and after a few more hours the deer as well. almost sickening. so at that point i bought an h&r in a 45-70. all but 1 deer shot have dropped on the spot. the other went 10 steps with a waterfall type blood trail. i wanted a semi for the brush bought an old ruger carbine in a 44mag. with the xtp's loaded the deer drop quickly and have very nice blood trails. since then my hunting buddy has 'borrowed' it and i moved to an ar in a beowulf. I understand everyone has there own opinions on the best rifle, but my experiance tells me at short range (125 yrd or less) big heavy bullets plants them where they stand.
