  1. Yes I'm sure that's exactly it! Camping at the "campground" site is way different than camping at one of the "rustic" sites along the, say, Cedar River Flow where sites are ALWAYS free. These sites are way more secluded and wild than any campground experience can offer and usually with good hunting. All of these site in the Adirondacks and elsewhere in the state are available as a KMZ file from the DEC website. This KMZ file (and others helpful to hunters) when opened in Google Earth place the exact campsite locations on the map! An excellent hunting planner. These are just a few of the KMZ files available to you; State land boundries, DEC roads, Trails, fishing streams, boat lauches, day use areas, and way way more.
  2. There is no law against climbing your own or a friends tree with permission and you'd have someone to spot you in case you get stuck, he can go call Chopper 7 News!
  3. I remember many many years ago i read of a guy who went walking in stokes forest and was bitten by a raccoon. he sued NJ claiming he wasn't informed that being bitten could happen and the state was negligent. He won. Don't blame gov't for making it illegal to climb trees in the city when you have scum sucking lawyers waiting in the wings to sue the "state" that lawyers think of as an unlimited tit of money. Common sense says if you climb a tree and fall it's your fault but with jurys everywhere rewarding people for their stupidity you have to have something in the laws to protect from lawsuits. All: God save your majesty! Cade: I thank you, good people—there shall be no money; all shall eat and drink on my score, and I will apparel them all in one livery, that they may agree like brothers, and worship me their lord. Dick: The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers. Cade: Nay, that I mean to do. Henry The Sixth, Part 2 Act 4, scene 2, 71–78
  4. I've tried this and its worked for many applications from blind roof to cut wood cover to chicken coop. Look up online instructions for a PVC hoop house or chicken coop. I made only the roof part ten fee by eight feet, covered it with plastic one inch (squares) fencing and covered that with a brown tarp. You can use it to cover anything, it stakes or ties down easily and once in place i cover it with the seasonal camo cloth. Sort of like these but I spaced the ribs closer for snow load and used 3/4 inch PVC. http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/488361/using-pvc-for-a-hoop-house or http://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hoop-house
  5. A KMZ file is a overlay file which Google Earth will open. Start Google Earth go to file, open, go to where you downloaded the file click on it. It will overlay the info onto the globe. As far as hunting on Long Island, Nassau is very very difficult but in Suffolk you can fare better except the season on Long Island doesn't start until October except for a tiny park way out east called Napeague State Park which as far as I can tell is squirrless but Bunnyful! Hunting with an air rifle now that it is legal seems to be the way to go, but then I'm not a bow hunter. Good Luck!
  6. Speaking of shipping how many of you have know about this? http://www.mepps.com/programs/squirrel-tail/ Squirrel Tail Payment InformationMost folks that send us squirrel tails double their value by trading them for Mepps lures. All-in-all, not a bad deal. They get a great day afield and get to enjoy the stew, too. Then they take the part they used to throw away, offer it to us to recycle and we send them Mepps spinners in return. What a deal! Shipping refunded on 50 tails or more. Ship by UPS or First Class mail only. No refund on insurance charges or service fees charged by independent mailing services. For all good quality tails we pay the following: Gray, Fox & Black Squirrel Tails16 ¢ each — under 100 19 ¢ each — over 100 21 ¢ each — over 500 22 ¢ each — over 1000 Premium Tails20 ¢ each — under 100 23 ¢ each — over 100 25 ¢ each — over 500 26 ¢ each — over 1000 Red Squirrel Tails (Hair at the base of the tail must be at least 1" long)8 ¢ each — under 100 9 ¢ each — over 100 10 ¢ each — over 500 11 ¢ each — over 1000 Squirrel Tail Payment InformationPlease follow these instructions carefully: Tails are best on squirrels taken after October 1st. Do NOT remove the bone from the tail. Deboned and split tails have no value. Salt the butt end of the tail generously. Use either dry salt or dip in a strong saltwater solution. Be sure the tail is straight before drying. Tails that dry in a curled position cannot be used. Keep tails away from flies. Best storage is in a freezer. Do not send tails that have been exposed to flies. Do not put tails in a plastic bag for storage or shipment. They could heat up and spoil. The best time to ship is during cold weather months (Jan, Feb, & Mar). Dried squirrel tails may be shipped anytime. Put your name, address, phone number, e-mail address, and tail count inside each package. Send your tails to: Sheldons', Inc. 626 Center St. Antigo, WI 54409-2496
  7. Republican or Democrat most people feel the same about government: Take only as much in taxes as you need, don't spend it foolishly, keep your nose out of my bedroom (email, mail, phone calls, etc.). The large multinational companies of the world have many people fooled into believing that the government is our enemy NOT them. Not the large companies that hide their money overseas, or rape and pollute our land, or have made a non-stop effort for well over fifty year to reverse America's conservation laws. Laws we ALL enjoy and count on to preserve our rich hunting heritage, our water, our air, the soil. The following link will take you the NYSDEC .kmz file download page. KMZ files for those of you who don't know are files that when loaded in Google Earth overlay their data onto the globe. They are a great hunting and scouting tool but If you download and look at some of these files you will be amazed at just how close to you a spill or toxic waste area is to your house. Just don't say how the hell did that get there cause it's mostly likely the guy you pulled the lever for in November. "Potential Environmental Justice Areas"? oops: http://www.dec.ny.gov/pubs/42978.html http://www.dec.ny.gov/public/899.html
  8. I agree with you! and consider this; while the town's deer grow older and weaker with little new blood, older weaker deer will attract coyotes. Then will they be voting on birth control for the coyotes? If they were having car accidents and losing shrubbery to deer how are they gonna handle losing their dog or cat? I respect their right to choose their own solution but I can't help but think that these are misguided and misinformed town folk.
  9. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=835_1328257815 I don't know if this has been posted before but it's worth another look. I'd mount it on wheels with some sort of recoil sled under it.
  10. Detroit's total debt is 20 billion, 3.5 billion is less than 17.5 percent of that debt. That's MATH! "Retired general city workers, such as librarians or sanitation workers, received average payments of $18,275 a year in 2011, according to the Detroit General Retirement System." Here is where you can read how Detroit city workers are living in the lap of luxury while their city burns around them. http://money.cnn.com/2013/07/23/retirement/detroit-pensions/index.html Let's not blame all the execs who shipped good American jobs overseas and then pocketed the difference or the investors that stripped companies the left the bankrupt (private industry) pensions to the states and citys to pay. Wait? you didn't know that when investment bankers pick apart a company the pension funds are left to the city and states to administer? Why? Because that's how they want it.
  11. There are a hundred reasons why Detroit is in ruins but pensions is by far the smallest fraction.
  12. Don't forget all those free hunting apps from mossy oakes and cabelas!
  13. From a bench with sandbags its easier to get good groups and minimize barrel droop, its another thing in the field with something crawling up your leg and your prey stopping to sniff the air. My Ruger has tight groups and cost $99 with a scope that I use to prop the shed door open now that i've swapped it for something better.
  14. I'm saving for this PCP and a charging tank AirForce Condor Bounty Hunter I use these so far RWS .22 Pellet Model 350 P Magnum Ruger Blackhawk .17 Crosman 2100B http://tedsholdover.com/ <---- This guys gave me the idea to approach farmers about airgun pest control and its been working! This past weekend alone I've been called BACK by a couple of landowners wanting to find out what i use and how.
  15. My .22 caliber air rifle is grouping under an inch at 100 yards. Amazingly as I've read the law and it's been explained to me by DEC officers in region one there is only a minimum caliber not a maximum caliber. In theory I could hunt with a.50 caliber air rifle. But I don't see going bigger than .25 or .30 caliber for Fox.
  16. Since air rifles are legal for long island is anyone considering hunting fox with them? I have some farmers on the east end that seemed much more interested in my using an air rifle over a shotgun. Most said it was noise and neighbor related reasons.
  17. We as hunters often consider ourselves conservationists and as such should consider re-introduction of an animal (sub specis) made extinct by over hunting importing for restoring the natural balance of the landscape. I for one am for a complete and balanced environment, except mosquitoes...and ticks... and those chigger things....
  18. I had a family friend near Princeton NJ and he got in good with the local PD and they use to call him to come remove the road kills. Sometimes at all hours of the night.I'm sure from what i saw in the freezer he doled it out at the Police HQ.
  19. I'm Shocked! Shocked I tell you! Someone admits to being a Met fan!! Who whouldda thunk it!
  20. Wow my heads a spinning! I just get copies of the tag and put the original on my back a copy on my pack one on the camo poncho and another on my arse!
  21. This alone is reason to own a bow!
  22. Buy your orlando area attraction tickets online ahead of time (try Viator) and google up coupons and discounts. Harry potter was one of the better parks for me and mine.
