  1. Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome! I hunt L.I too it's a place you gotta have a plan to hunt but I don't think it's as bad as everyone makes out. Like Danny sez not a place for peace and quiet but lotsa, deer, fox, crows, etc...
  2. Yeah they will all fit what they say they'll fit, but i prefer some room around my firearms to minimize scratches and such, the stand-offs work fine and using a gun sock isn't a bad idea. However the most important part is they are built sturdy.
  3. I have the stack-on 12 gun safe and I love it but sizes given are inflated by at least a third. Strong and able to be bolted down to floor or back against wall.
  4. Oklahoma City wasn't terrorists? or wasn't extremist? or was It forgettable? I forget which.
  5. Funny! Is a cow shaped blind an option?
  6. <sigh> Giants... but the Jets are very adept at sucking.
  7. i have a Mossberg 20ga slug gun and first equipped it with a red dot scope. The accuracy is so phenomenal that I replaced it with a Bushnell shotgun scope with BDC reticle. Red dot scopes are for fast target acquisition, something I personally believe is less desirable where shotgun deer hunting is mandated. Expensive sabot ammo will basically turn your shotgun into a 150-200 yard big bore rifle.
  8. Show me the study that proves it's "even more"! LOL Surprisingly it's much easier today to find out how, why, how many and by whom scientific research is being conducted. EQUALLY surprising is how few do so. I may find a study by a few interesting. Science that is peer reviewed and carries the weight of scientific consensus is what I was talking about. A clear example is global climate change. Yeah science got that wrong! It's happening way faster than anyone thought. Some studies suggest Lead brought down the mighty Roman empire, not debauchery. Used in everything including food, makeup and water, wine and olive oil vessels. I am not for or against a regulation, ideally WE as hunters should educate ourselves and freely choose to do what we perceive as right. Clearly Curmudgeon has done so and made his decision as so have many others here have. As for me I have switched some time ago from lead in my largest bore weapons, and my air weapons. I still use lead at the range when competing or for practice. I keep lead around for home security when lead poisoning is the least of my concerns. For me this is a balanced approach that mitigates the costs.
  9. Its sad when solid peer reviewed science get laid low by "been doing this for 100 years and my gut tells me its right" science. Our stewardship of land and animals should always be as broad and encompassing as possible because we cannot know the full impact of our deeds. I was taught that hunters are first and foremost conservationist, that our first responsibility is to the land and animals who inhabit it, and that we should err on the side more protection and not less. These are our lands and animalia to protect. Are we really going to say the price of protection is too high?
  10. This has gotten so far off topic....but You solve problems by studying the situation and devising a rational course of action and then implementing it. Suggesting science has no place in that process is just stupid. Eggheads as you call them have cured illnesses, created wonders, won wars and given us longer lives. I'm sure if it was a study that agreed with the preconceived notion in you head you'd be all for it. How else would you explain simply dismissing a study, one of many on that subject, simply because the University of Chicago was an entity involved with it? Maybe you just hate Chicago?
  11. Congrats! The roller coaster is now heading up the incline! hold on!
  12. I'll take an egg head over a shit head anytime. The point your making is that the University of Chicago's study is invalid because Chicago is crime ridden. it's like saying the university of Miami can't conduct a study of public transportation because they have no subway.
  13. This is what i said. Why don't you quote Stanford's crime stats or where ever The Bar Foundation is located?
  14. i'd go with a head/helmut mount rather than a bow mount. Vibration could make the video unwatchable.
  15. Sort of like when the oil companies funded reports that global warming wasn't happening, then that it was but it wasn't humans fault....and every single conservative believed it... There have been numerous studies tying legal abortion with lower crime rates, I just linked to the most recent. When a topic is a lightening rod such as abortion it's kind of naive to suggest no one else is interested or willing to fund further investigation. Just like it's naive to suggest that because the University of Chicago took part in this study, the crime rate in Chicago should invalidate said study.
  16. I always seem to have more than i need for cooking so one day i slopped some on a squeeky wagon wheel and boy did it work!
  17. Stanford Law School University of Chicago American Bar Foundation Not sure what axe they are grinding, maybe they are just curious.
  18. http://pricetheory.uchicago.edu/levitt/Papers/DonohueLevittTheImpactOfLegalized2001.pdf University of Chicago study about legal abortions and the crime rate. Read it and/or rant at it the facts speak for themselves.
