From a self defense instructor, and certified NRA gun safety instructor: "A target round will have little or no expansion upon hitting a person, and will tend to just pass straight through, causing the least amount of damage. A defense round will (usually) expand upon entering the target, which slows it down faster and creates a larger wound, the goal being to cause a drop in blood pressure as quickly as possible so as to incapacitate the attacker." Lets see,..Do I want a perfect 9mm hole through me or an expanded slug in me...?

2010-2011 Bushnell Trophy cam firmware upgrades

Absolutely! IMHO, best for the buck ($$). Especially if you can get one on sale. Hell yeah, if money were no object, I'd have a stable of Reconyx cams. -
2010-2011 Bushnell Trophy cam firmware upgrades
nyslowhand replied to nyslowhand's topic in Trail Camera Reviews and Info
You have to look around and know what you're looking for. Amazon is NOT the cheapest! Trust me, I've been waiting for the right situation for 6 months to add another (or 2?) BTC. Correct, the 2013 models are just starting to show-up on the web over the past 10 days or so. Hopefully this will drive down the price of prior year's models. I mentioned the 2010 BTC model having issues, not 100% failures. It was more problematic than their prior year's models. One popular trail cam review site quit reviewing that cam due to issues and Bushnell's unwillingness to admit the product was prone to failures. Apparently that was Bushnell's wake-up call, they seem to have gotten back on track with the 2011 and through the current models. -
Glad I'm not the only one that only takes the breast. Feel guilty about it! Have used the whole turkey roasted before, but wings & legs just aren't worth keeping.

2010-2011 Bushnell Trophy cam firmware upgrades
nyslowhand replied to nyslowhand's topic in Trail Camera Reviews and Info
Not to get too far off topic, but the 2010 BTC model year had huge issues. Designated by model #s ending in a 5, ie; 119435, 119445, etc. These problems were fixed in 2011 and the model #s ended in a 6, ie; 119436, 119446, etc. 2012 model #s were 119437, 119447, etc. 2013 models are now somewhat different, ie; 119537, 119547, etc. Most of what you see on Amazon are 2011 models. They do have the 2013 models, but are ~$45 more than you can get them for on eBay from an authorized reseller. So, I guess I'm saying - know what you're buying & shop around first. -
Suppose there's some benifits to leaving the skin on when roasting. Certainly is a pain in the butt to pluck. First couple I got, I plucked and what a pain!! Definately a skinner myself!

Bill to make Hunting Competitions illegal in NY
nyslowhand replied to WesternNY's topic in General Hunting
Lets see - NY has large unemployment, social programs bankrupting the state, decaying infrastructures, huge budgetary issues, ..... and this politician is concerned with a rural upstate squirrel hunting contest? Or the NY Big Buck contest...really. WTH! -
Did not know this even existed. If you have one of those year's models, a software/firmware upgrade is available. Seems easy to install! http://www.bushnell.com/global/customer-service/trophycam-software BTW - Also found out, contrary to Bushnell's suggestion of only using alkaline or Lithium batteries, recharageable batteries will work. Apparently Bushnell gets a kick-back for promoting Energizer batteries.

Some of you folks are trying to apply way too much science when evaluating a deer's behavoir! They (whitetails) are basically wild animals driven solely by their instinct to survive, avoidance of danger, feeding & breeding. These instincts are refined with every situation they encounter. I agree, when waiting in the stand for days for one to come within range, they appear to be the smartest animals alive!! Then one will come in from directly downwind and pass within feet of you, stupid deer! Haven't you ever shot one and within minutes the rest of the group returns to the area? Then you get those mature bucks killed on a simple deer drive. Many of you may have seen them let the drivers pass by or even circle behind them. How about the ones that crash through the plate windows? If they are so smart, why do they continue to have problems with asphalt and roads? They may have a small capacity to do some very simple "reasoning" when new situations are encountered. Like a new food source or the first encounter with an ATV, tractor or another wild animal. Nothing that would make you think they are capable of any degree of intellegence rather than simply learned experiences. Think someone else already questioned the difference between learned experiences & the ability to reason. That's what seperates humans from wild animals, the ability to reason. Also, it isn't logical to compare the behavoir of domestic to wild animals! Domestic animals have one instinct, eat. The remainder of the time they spend amusing themselves.

Here's a site where you get coin appraisals (DIY) by answering some questions about a specific coin. Looks to be a little cumbersome & time consuming for a large collection. Gotta assume there might be a book about coin values, aka; a Kelly Blue Book of coins. Public library?? http://www.appraisemycoins.com/default.aspx

Did you hear about the new Italian assault weapon restrictions?

Been there, done that..!! Do it in today's world & you'll have Child Services visiting you. -
Once you get to the specific property, click on the tax ID # and it takes you to the property's details. Then click on the "Owner" tab and it gives you the specifics of who owns that property. Their address is given, with that you may be able to google their name for a phone#. Wasn't real comfortable when I did this inquiry for an adjoining property, kind of felt "creepy" or stalker-ish. Did get me info I needed.
-
Each property is labeled with a 6 digit property ID number (xxxxxx) on the Wayne County website's tax map listed above. What isn't shown is the specific area numbers. As an example; 69119-00-xxxxxx. Knowing that prefix number & specific property #, you can search the tax rolls for the property owner & their contact info. Place to start!! Also betting owner doesn't know about the squater.

Don't worry about her growing up, the cycle gets repeated with grandchildren. That is, unless you've involked the "locked in closet 'til you're 30" threat.. LOL

Fanny pack & inflatable seat cushion. Refill fanny pack with deer hunting paraphernalia. The more room you have, the more crap you're tempted to tote along. Just me, but I'm a miniminalist.

Stihl Chain Saw
nyslowhand replied to fasteddie's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Oh yeah, sweet! Love mine too! Beats the hell out of my Husky with the wrench, cover nuts & the screw adjustment. Eddie, sure you aren't planning on cutting anything too big. I have the 270/18" and that's considered a medium duty chainsaw. I've abused mine for 6-7 years with no problems other than the ethnol issues. FYI - If you ever need work done on it or chains sharpened, got to Boerman's on Rte21 in Marion. Cheaper labor rate and the mechanic (owner's son) knows his Stihls. Altra's (Ontario) labor rate is ~$80/hr and IMHO they have no clue. -
NYS hunting-fishing license restructuring
nyslowhand replied to nyslowhand's topic in General Chit Chat
Forgot to add that Czar Cumo is taking credit for this proposal that basically was placed on his desk awaiting his signature. -
Anyone see the article in this week's NYON about this. See where all the combo licenses are going away. Also no mention of small game or big game, just hunting license. Goes into effect 2/2014 if signed. http://www.governor.ny.gov/press/02202013-ny-open-for-fishing-and-hunting

You people are comparing apples to oranges!! County taxes vary according to the county budget. Counties with distressed urban areas (ie; Chemung w/Elmira?) have larger social programs to pay for. More rural counties have somewhat less of a budgetary demand. May be effected somewhat by available employment and what the taxpayers can endure ($$). Then there are the school taxes which vary a lot influenced by each district's size, demographics &/or agenda. You've hit on another "hot button" for home/land owners where each individual has their own specific regional gripe!
