  1. I understand, My Friend... However my success at seeing deer comes with a price...A few thousand dollars per year in property taxes, and several hundred dollars per year in food plot prep, not counting my labor...
  2. Yes..It is a .308 case necked down to accept a 7mm ( .284") bullet.... First gained popularity as a mettalic sillhoette chambering for competition out to 500 yards... Caught on with hunters after that..It is ballistically equal to the 7 x 57 Mauser round which has been around since 1893, but works in a short action, allowing a somewhat shorter, handier hunting rifle.. Other than that, I don't know much about it...
  3. .270 bullet is .277 inches... 7mm bullet is .284 " Stricktly informational... Wouldn't make a bit of difference to the deer..
  4. Down here in Dogpatch, many guys have complained that the deer are not moving because of too little hunting pressure.. However several local deer processors have been turning people away..SOMEBODY must be killing some... As por MOI, today was the first afternoon sit when I have not seen at least one deer...Mornings have been slow, but afternoons have been good for anywhere from 2 to ten deer per sit, including 6 or 8 bucks mostly yearlings but a couple of bigger ones also....I have only missed hunting about three afternoons so far this season...
  5. Nothing wrong with .38 snubbies...Joe Friday has been carrying one for over 50 years.. " Just the FACTS, Ma'am "..... Hehehe...
  6. Nien... Just an Amerikanner Shmartass.....
  7. Careful how you talk about China....My Dad was on a destroyer that sent a couple of months in Shanghai immediately following the Japanese surrender in WWII....I probably have several siblings in China... Hell...My Dad might be Elmo's grandfather..What relation does that make him to me ??
  8. Venison neck roast... Probably the TASTIEST roast on the deer, IMHO.....Enjoy. My Friend !!
  9. Bless yore pea pickin' little heart.....No kidding... Good to take care of Mom...
  10. I'm shooting a Rem M700 DBM Mountain Rifle that I bought in the early 1990s....It has always been very accurate and grouped around 1" off the bench at 100 yards with the two loads I have used in it, the first with a Nosler 140 BT and my current load with a Barnes 120 TSX... The only factory rounds it has ever seen was a box of Rem Green 140 that I bought for barrel break in and to get some brass.... All I can tell you about factory load availability is that before the current situation, I used to see plenty of 7-08 factory loads in the gunshops....It is a very popular round here in southwestern NY and central/northwestern PA.....Lots of folks here on the forum shoot it and like it...
  11. It has been my primary whitetail rifle for 20 + years....Shoots essentialy as flat as a .270 Win with similar bullet weights and burns less powder ( hence less recoil) while doing it... I load my own, but back before the current ammo shortage there were lots of choices for factory loads and prices were no higher than other popular chamberings, such as 270-308-30-06, etc... It first became popular as an accurate , light recoiling round for sillouette competion, which included shooting out to 500 yards.. Some consider it the perfect whitetail round, but the same could be said about numerous other chamberings also...
  12. That I did, , My Good Friend, using a reload with one of the casings that you so generously gave me.... Deer was at 250...Rifle was zeroed at 2" high at 100, which should put it right on at 250...Bullet hit right where I aimed.... Thanks again, Dave !!
  13. I shot a nice fat spike tonite....Made a nice 250 yard shot...Made me feel just a little better after missing a much closer shot on a much bigger buck the second day of the season.... Mort and I still had a wrestling match trying to get him in the truck....Two old men trying to get a limp deer up on a high tailgate.....Hehehe... I am going to rig up a come along or future use, so I can just winch 'em on... Got my meat for the season, but I still have two DMPs ...I may take another to can, and I also have an old fishing buddy, Handsome Howie, who would gratefully accept a deer ....
  14. My Good Buddy Mort is arriving at 2:00..We'll be in my tower from 2:30 until dark... Season is getting short, and I don't have any meat, so I'm ready to drop the hammer on a decent doe or one of the smaller bucks I have been seeing on almost a daily basis.. Today would be a good day to do it, since I'll have Mort there to help me load one in the truck..
  15. I always used to keep the "football" roast ( properly the sirloin tip) intact for corning... I'd corn up a couple , then cook them up and take them into work for the boys in the shop on St. Patty's day.... I'm don't think I have corned any venison since I retired...I may do that this year, if I happen to kill a deer...
  16. Perhaps the cover on the Sears catalog we used to keep in the outhouse back on the farm.....Hehehe....
  17. Pygmy

    JAWS!!!

He's have been a DANDY next year.......
  18. Happy Birthday, My Friend...Hope ya get lucky....<<grin>>....
  19. My apologies.....I was looking at the COYOTE picture.....Looking at the original picture I would say fox....
  20. Negatory, Dave.... Frame and tail are all wrong for either a grey or a red fox.......
  21. You might be surprised how far Lassie and Rover get from home....It doesn't take to long for a big dog to cover a couple of miles.. That said, I'd say it is either a dog or a coyote...
  22. I LOVE it, Larry, and I also applaud your photographic skill......You might be in the wrong profession....Oughta doing PICTURES rather than WINDOWS....Hehehe.. BTW, The Mermaid sends you a big hug..
