  1. I'll be sitting in my enclosed, heated tower stand watching over my 3 acre wheat field, which the deer have been eating right down to the ground.. I may take my sleeping bag ( and ANGEL of course) and just sleep up there for the first week if I can fit in enough beer and sandwiches to tide me over...I have invited Squirrelwhisperer up to hunt with me a few days, but I don't know if he has the cojones to come up and spend a few days here in the wilderness, where men are men and sheep are very cautious...
  2. I am a big ( figuratively) fan of osso buco but have never tried making it..I will definitely try it this year..The Mermaid probably won't eat it, but if there is any left over I'm sure the stray cats and crows in my back yard will help with any leftovers...Thanks for the recipe...
  3. I did the test Thursday afternoon .....Called Monday PM and my results were in, but the clinic would not give them to me because they said my DR office had to give them to me and he did not answer my call...Got the results Tuesday morning from a nurse at my DR's office.. Not sure WTF he was....Too cold and windy to be playing golf....
  4. Just a dang minute here, Biz.....I never had PUBLIC lice in my life...They were always in very private places.. Oh... Wait a minute.... You said PUBIC lice.......Well.....errrr.... never mind.....
  5. Wet cleanup in aisle PYGMY.....!!! Love that Combat Mag.....
  6. Fine looking little feller....Congrats, John !!
  7. I like the laminates myself, as long as they look like wood and aren't some goony color... My M70 Win came from the factory with a brown laminate stock similar to Steve's, and I have always thought it was quite attractive..
  8. I used to, but now it would only work as a lasso....
  9. Always lots of replies to threads like this.. I guess we all enjoy talking about our guns !!....
  10. I'm negative....No big surprise, because it's been two weeks since my possible exposure, and I have shown no symptoms... Better safe than sorry, though...Now I can call The Legion and tell them that they won't be needing to file Chapter 11....
  11. Okay, Don..I am no lawyer....I would inform the neighbor what happened , tell him that you cannot use a chainsaw for medical reasons, and ask him if he can help you out... If he declines ask him if there is someone local that you could hire to cut it out... Good, or at least FREINDLY neighbors are a valuable commodity...I say this having owned property in a rural area with numerous neighbors for the last 70 years...
  12. I have killed more game with Nosler BTs than any other bullet, Dave... Never had a single complaint, from accuracy to terminal performance.. A number of years back lots of guys on another forum were praising the Barnes 120 Grain TSX in the 7MM08....I had been using the Nosler BT 140 grain in my 7MM08 with great results, but just for shits and giggles I decided to try the Barnes load.. It shot as accurately as the Nosler and killed just as well, and seemed to result in a little less meat damage, so I stuck with it... A couple of years later I tried the 140 TTSX in my .280, with similar results....Since then I have been using the Barnes bullets, but it was never because I had any complaints about the Nosler BTs....
  13. Pretty simple..Either cut it out yourself or hire or enlist someone to do it for you.... I am not real skilled with a chainsaw and I really hate to run one, but if that downfall was blocking my road I'd have it cut up enough to drag out of the way in about twenty minutes...
  14. Hard to beat Nosler BTs as a deer bullet....I have also shot 8 or 10 caribou with them with no complaints... On a couple of those hunts I had a moose tag and would not have hesitated to shoot a big bull moose in the lungs with one...I don't believe he would have gone far...On deer and caribou, I usually got exit wounds with BTs on broadside shots, and quick kills..
  15. I'll have my Win M70 lightweight in .280 Rem.....I bought it in 1988 from Ron Shirk's Gun Supply in PA for $289..... It has traveled all over the continent and killed everything from woodchucks to Alaska bull moose..... My current load features a Barnes TTSX 140 grain at around 3000 fps.... Never been a bughole shooter....I am happy with 100 yard groups of 2" or a bit less, but it shoots "minute of ribcage" out to 300 yards or so, which is as far as I can shoot from my tower stand.. It currently wears a fixed 6X Leupold, but most of the game has been killed with a fixed 4X Leupold, including a few 300 yard + kills..
  16. Happy Birthday, Squirrell !! Hope ya get lucky, in the woods AND at home !! Or wherever.....Hehehe....
  17. That's one of the red-neckie-ish blinds I ever saw, Wolc..!! I highly approve and hope you kill something from it tomorrow !!.. Also love the 8N.....Been driving one ( actually my current is a 9N) for about 60 years..Even managed to RUN OVER MYSELF with one about 1962, and my back is still telling me about it to this day.. Maybe that explains , in a small way, what is wrong with me...
  18. A guy after my own heart !! Reminds me of my date with Moog's Mom....... Ain't love GRAND ??.......
  19. I go out in my garage, put my earplugs in and snap a couple of caps, making double sure, of course that there is not a charge in the barrel ( I check with my ramrod) and pointing it in a safe direction just in case.. I then charge the rifle and seat the projectile...A muzzleloader is considered unloaded unless it is capped or primed, so there is no problem transporting it in your vehicle to your hunting spot..
  20. Al..Seeing that picture almost makes me feel a little guilty for blasting a couple of squirrels today with my Win M12 16 gauge.....They tasted pretty god supper, however...
  21. It's a sickness that has been going on for years, with the craze about big whitetails... There was a guy in my hometown RIP who was obessed by big whitetails.. He had a collection of over 40 BIG mounts, all 130 inches and up.....Claimed he had taken them all himself...Meanwhile, he was busy buying big racks and capes wherever he could find them , including making trips to the midwest, and giving local taxidermist lots of business mounting them for him... The sad part was, he was a very accomplished deer hunter, and had taken several real nice heads himself, but nowhere near the number he had mounted...He had a story for each one of them, too.... He just wanted everyone to think he was the world's greatest whitetail hunter.....
  22. Congrats to your buddy for a fine buck... Back in the day, there were several times that I put down a smoke and picked up my gun or bow to shoot a deer.. If they are downwind, they smell you, regardless of what you do...If they are upwind or crosswind, they don't....Not rocket science....Luck has a lot to with it, especially on the days when the wind is swirling and shifting...
  23. Where the hell did you get that picture of me and my favorite horse " Boner"...??....
  24. DANG !! That must have happened the time she was a couple of seconds too late kicking the bucket out from under me.....
