You just can't trust those guys from downstate.... -
Looks great...!! I have a good hunting buddy who is mostly wheelchair bound but still manages to hunt with a 4 wheeler, crutches and a portable blind..Might be a good option for him..

I'll volunteer to spend a few hours at Turning Stone with your wife while you are shopping...Of course, I may need a little SEED money......<<GRIN>>.... Seriously, Tony, the Wooltimate jacket has become my go-to cool to cold weather jacket over the last few years....The only time I go heavier is for extremes, like ice fishing or winter lake fishing, when I fall back on my insulated bibs and my old Cabela's Colorado Down coat.... Get a big enough kangaroo pocket and perhaps you'll have room enough to take me along to keep your belly warm...

The .30 cal. carbine with a 15 or 30 round mag ( of course, none of US possess those) isn;t a bad firearm to have standing in a corner in the house just in case you need to shoo the riff-raff off your lawn....

I had three springers and they were all great family dogs and good hunters also.... Medium size and very family oriented... Cockers used to be very nice dogs, but in recent years breeding for the pet trade has produced a snippy, nasty little dog... I have no experience with field bred cockers, but as I understand it, they are much better temperament than the pet/show bred ones... The cockers I hunted over 50 years ago were nice dogs and great hunters...The ones I have encountered ( as pets) over the last 25 years or so were mostly unpleasant, snappy little bastards.. A number of breeds are similar....Standard poodles are very pleasant, wonderful dogs, but the minature abominations that the pet trade has bred ( and some people consider CUTE) should all be gathered into a huge burlap bag and sunk in the middle of Seneca lake.. I'd go with the springer.... A friend of mine has a golden doodle, and he is an extremely pleasant, calm demeanored and very intelligent dog, but he is BIG.. My friend is not a hunter, so I have no idea about the dog's abilities in the field.....Goldens and standard poodles are both excellent hunting breeds, and both have great dispositions, so the cross should hunt...

Happy birthday, you big pink WABBIT !! I hope you get to buck like a funny tonite.....<<GRIN>>....

In 1973 I bought an 1895 Chliean Mauser at a shop in Stevens Mills near Hornell for $35...It was in excellent condition..They had racks upon racks of military rifles for little or nothing...With some help from Dad, who was a machinist, I sporterized it and it became my first PA deer rifle... Wish I still had it in it's original condition...
-
I believe Dinsdale has some he might be willing to barter...
-
Dan, probably about everybody in the world has better eyes than you and I do...Hehehehe... I can still remember when I had VERY good eyes, but that was back when Moby Dick was a minnow..
-
Good luck, My Friend....I was not criticizing, but only discussing... Enjoy your rifle, whatever route you take...
-
When the OP asked about just seating the barreled action in a sporter stock with no further alterations, I assumed he was prepared to function with the crappy sights, issue safety and horrible trigger... He says the rifle is very accurate as is, so probably he would be happy as a clam to have the same rifle with a lighter and less bulky stock....More power to him...

Not that I am aware of.....

Oh NOOOO !! Mongo STRAIGHT !!
-
We don't drive 'em down here in Dogpatch, Moog.. That is considered bad form, and only practiced by <<CRINGE>> city hunters......We stiil hunt them.. From the ground.... Mano a mano....
-
Let me know if the PA drive doesn't work out, Moog....I have a corner on some awesome porky hunting here in NY..In fact only a year or two ago I could have shown you a picture of a couple of hundred porky quills in my Muck boots and recoil pad from trying to dislodge a porky from the chair in my treestand...

I have had the the pleasure to FONDLE Wildcat's Mauser sporters, and they are indeed wonderful works of art that I drooled over...Genuine rifle porn.... I also hunted moose in NF with a Canadian gent who had a VERY nicely done sporter done on a #4 Enfield.. He got the biggest bull of the trip with it... However, I will present my opinion, and keep in mind it is only my opinion and therefore isn't worth more than two bucks.... If I had an UNALTERED historical military rifle, I would not sporterize it, because as was said before, they are not making any more and they will only increase in value..... If the rifle has been previously altered, have at it... At no time in the past have there ever been so many bug hole accurate, affordably priced rifle models available.... This is coming from a person who loves oil finished walnut and deep luster blued steel......

Give the man a KEWPIE DOLL !! Good one, Caveman and Tracker....I watched it last night for about the 147th time...
-
I could find you in the dark, Mrs. Lowe, and I'm only PART Indian....
-
The Yugo is of course, not as valuable as the German K98K....Still a solid rifle..I have one that is all matching and I don't believe it was ever issued...Basically just some slight handling marks... I don't want to influence you...Just the action on the Mauser might be worth a few hundred dollars, bu....t it is probably a better candidate for sporterizing than the # 4 Enfield... Good luck, My Friend.....
-
With a Mauser, if the bolt and reciever numbers match, the value increases....Not as much as totally matching numbers, but still valuable...I have a 1938 Oberndorf K98K and all numbers match except the stock ( issue, not aftermarket) rear sight and forward barrel band..I consider it valuable enough NOT to sporterize.. Consider the fact that they are not making any more of them...I can remember the day when you could buy a shooter M-1 Garand for $300 or less... What is the least you could buy a functional one for today ?? What is your Enfield ?...

You gotta wait until January...December 2020 is LAST year..... Hehehe....
