  1. Why on earth would you want a higher power scope than a 2X on a .35 Rem ? 2x gives you plenty of resolution on any shot a .35 is capable of ( say 250 yards max). The extra eye relief and field of view of the 2x scope is more valuable than a bit more magnification, ESPECIALLY at woods hunting ranges on moving targets. What would a variable do other than complicate things..?.. ......KISS.....
  2. Steve 863 and Doewhacker know a lot about planting third world food plots. There are pictures to prove it.
  3. I hunt barefoot.. My rifle started developing a fungus.. ....Athlete's Stock....
  4. Awwww NUTS !!...Wait a minute...What did I say !!??....
  5. Could be worse, Elmo.. I figured that with my luck I'd be reincarnated as a worm and my ex-wife would be reincarnated as a chicken.
  6. I'm a bear.... " Hey Boo-Boo...Let's go find us a Pic-A-Nic basket !! "
  7. I have hunted all my life in Steuben County.. I can direct you to several good public land areas. Hunting pressure is heavy the first few days of season, but most areas get minimal hunting pressure after opening weekend. Get on the DEC website , because I'm not sure of the proper names of all of the state land areas, but I can come close. Erwin state game lands near Gang Mills... Pinnacle State Park and Mccarthy State Game lands near Addison. Tracy Creek State game lands near Rathbone. Cameron Hill State game Lands near Cameron. There are many other areas in Steuben, but I am familiar with the ones I have listed and they are all good hunting.

I treat mine basically the same as ADK..Right now the entire plants are spread out on a sheet of plywood out of the sun in my shed. Soon I'll tie them in bundles and hang them to let them cure a couple more weeks. Then I'll cut off the roots and tops, and store them in onion bags hanging in my cellar. I'll set aside some of the largest bulbs for seed, and plant them in mid October.
  9. 52 years, unless you count my time terrorizing the local songbird/chipmunk population with my Daisy BB gun, which would make it closer to 58 years. My dad, uncles, and most adult males I knew were hunters, so I just kind of came by it naturally. Growing up in a very rural area, hunting and fishing were some of the prime pasttimes..

I have only been to the one at Fox Run Winery on Seneca Lake. I didn't make it this year..It is this weekend.

I do mine in rows. Plant toes 4-5" apart and rows about 10-12" apart.

Ants...What did you use for seed ? I tried garlic from the supermarket once and it did not do well. I have bought it online from growers and currently I am using bulbs that I bought at the garlic festival at Fox Run Winery near Dresden on the west side of Seneca lake. My crop this year good. Perhaps just a little smaller on average than last year, but most of the bulbs are 2" or larger with 5 or six large toes. If I can find the address of the place that grew my original seed I'll PM you.

I plant a 4X8 raised bed. I have also been growing the German hardneck the last couple of years. I grow about 50 bulbs per year. I plant in mid October and harvest mid July. My garlic has good pungent flavor, a little heat, and keeps well. I add about 2 5 gallon buckets of well rotted cow manure each year and so far have not had to use chemical fertilizer. I plant the toes about 2 inches deep and then mulch the bed with 5 or 6 inches of dead leaves, held down with chicken wire. I also cut off the scapes, usually in early June.
  14. Sure looks like fun, Cabin.. Calling ANY game to the gun is a rush, whether it is turkeys, deer, predators, crows ,ducks or whatever. Looks like those fellers know what they are doing when it comes to calling coons.
  15. Coon hunting without hounds ?? SACRILEDGE !!!... Just kidding, of course, but when I grew up my Old Fat Father always had a coon hound or two. Coon hunting was his passion. I've spent a lot of time in the woods over the years , including LOTS of time at dusk and dawn, and there have been a few times when I could have taken coons as targets of opportunity. However, if I wanted to kill coons with any consistency, I would consider either trapping or getting a coon hound. Good luck..
  16. Very pretty, Paula... Enjoy your trip...Thanks for sharing..
  17. That's funny....Forty plus years ago, Tom Kelly wrote in his classic turkey hunting book " The Tenth Legion" about the possibility of seeing a turkey in Central Park. He was being facetious, since at that time such a thing would be outlandish.. How things have changed in 40 years...
  18. You can say THAT again, Larry...<<grin>>...
  19. Don't mess with it..The wife of a friend of mine has permanent scars from contact with the juice and it can cause permanent blindness if you happen to get it in your eyes. It's nasty stuff. As I understand it, its native relative, cow parsnip, can be pretty caustic also. I see a LOT of that stuff around..Looks just like the hogweed, only smaller.
  20. There was some locally near Risingville a few years ago..The DEC is aware of it and has been spraying it.
  21. Yup..Just what we need...More regulations. You must be a staunch Obama supporter.
  22. It's easy to build one... Just drive in a pole and then soak it down with " Essence of Pic-A-Nic Basket"...
  23. I was a member of the Mickey Mouse Club UNDERGROUND. I still have my autographed picture of Annette taking a shower with Mickey, Goofy, and Donald..
  24. A cell phone..The Mermaid ( and some of my friends) think that an old fart like me should have one while stomping around God knows where. I guess it's time to give in..Damn newfangled contraptions !
