  1. She's used to me smelling like fish and cheap booze... That's because I fish a lot and drink a lot of Genny Lite...LOL.. If Jenny's black hairs had been CURLY, I'd have been in trouble.. I had a great time..Larry and his lovely bride Kathy are a fine host/hostess.. I couldn't believe how good the fishing was considering how BUSY the water was..Lots of boat traffic, along with jetskis, etc. I guess the fish are used to the commotion. Down here on the Finger lakes, they shut down in relatively shallow water as soon as the lake gets busy.
  2. Nice pictures, Lee...Thanks for sharing !
  3. I planted rape, turnips and radishes in one plot and clover and oats in another plot on August 19th last year.. They did great, but I was lucky having a fair amount of rain.. Good luck.
  4. Skin the goose..Filet the breasts... Skin out and cut off the legs and thighs. There is as much meat on the legs/thighs as there is on the breasts. Do them in a slow cooker with onions and red wine... Done this way it reminds you more of beef than of poultry.
  5. They have had that season for quite a few years, Biz... Of course it is a draw... Tags are easier to draw if you apply for a non-typical tag, which usually means an animal with a point broken off..
  6. Geeze, Larry, you had me worried for a minute there. When I saw the title I thought you were talking about your SOCIAL life....
  7. I have seen a number of hens and only 1 poult... Don't know what's up...The nesting season was not that wet and cold... Perhaps more will show up eventually...There is still a lot of hay and tall foliage that would make it tough to see poults at this time..
  8. You can say the same thing about the .223, .222, or even the .22 LR( if you manage to get it between the ribs) but that doesn't make any of them a good choice for heavy game.
  9. DANG, Steve !! Does this mean I have to put my clothes on next time I go into Victoria Secret ?? How about if I just wear a peek-a-boo t-shirt and my speedo ??
  10. Pygmy

    Big smallmouth

Nice fish..The young lady is obviously pleased with him...<<smile>>...
  11. LOL...Me too, except I have SHORT wide feet...My ex wife used to call 'em DUCK feet... Back to the subject, I have had good luck with Muck boots...I they last me about 3 seasons and I put a lot of miles on them. For lightweight hiking type boots in relatively dry conditions, I currently have a pair of Rockies..They have been a good boot so far, light and comfortable. I plan to use them in Colorado this year for my mule deer hunt.
  12. Well, shave my a** and call me NANCY !...hehehehehe....
  13. If it had a white head it was at least four years old. Bald eagles do not develop the classic white head/white tail until they are 4 or 5 years old. Younger than that, they are basically a big brown raptor.
  14. We all have our opinions regarding different chamberings and what terminal effects we desire. I personally have never been a proponent of the "expend all the energy inside the animal" theory.. I feel that two holes are better than one, in case tracking is required. If I were to use a .300 mag for deer, I would prefer to use a stoutly constructed 180 or 200 grain bullet that would fully penetrate the ribcage and would cause less meat damage. That said, I am not a fan of .300 mags, although I have nothing against using them. I feel they are neither fish nor fowl. If I need more punch than a .270, .280, or 30-06, I would move to something with a heavier bullet, like a .35 Whelen, a .338 Win mag, or my personal pet, a 9.3 x 62... They don't kick much more than a .300 mag and with the heavier bullets they use, ( 225 to 300 grain) they pack a lot more punch.
  15. Veal osso buco at Pleasant Valley Inn near Hammondsport...YUMMM !!!! I am not a big veal fan, either, but that stuff is so good that I am surpised it's not ILLEGAL...<<grin>>...
  16. Yeah, Jerry...Where you and I live it is a constant threat.. I'm paranoid, especially at dusk and dawn..I'm ALWAYS looking for eyes, and slow down at the first glimpse of a deer, an eye, or whatever.. I would guess that since I have been driving (1966) I have avoided dozens if not hundreds of deer related collisions, just by being constantly vigilant.. Still, I have hit 3 and had MANY close calls... Sometimes the SOBS just come out of nowhere....
  17. There is no such thing as a small eagle...Even an immature barely able to fly is bigger than any hawk you ever saw, except maybe an osprey..They have wingspans similar to an eagle but they are not as heavy. Perhaps it was a matter of perspective when you saw the bird. Did it have the white head and tail ?
  18. Tell him to save them for Growie.. One of her specialties is CHIPMUNK STEW...<< grin >>...
  19. THANKS, adk !! Osso bucco is one of my favorite dishes.. I have had it made with beef and pork, but never venison. Can't wait to try it out. If I ever am lucky enough to be in on another moose kill, I'll bet that moose shanks would make an awesome osso bucco also.. Damn...!! Now I'm HUNGRY...<<Pygmy salivates>>....
  20. Using a barrel too big for the barrel channel...That would do it !!.. Glad to hear you got to the bottom of it.
  21. Good Lord !! Who did the drill job on the rifle ...Woody Woodpecker ?? Probably a decent gunsmith could mount a base on that reciever , but I'd be sure to ask him if the botched drill/tap job might have weakened it. You mentioned that it is an Enfield..If it is a US M1917, that is in your favor, because that is a very massive and strong action.
  22. I received 100 Barnes TTSX 140 grain 7mms for my .280. <2 boxes of 50>... Cost me seven bucks and change for shipping. I don't know if that is a good price or not. Got the bullets, anyway..
