  1. WTF is a fender washer ? I assume it's not one of those black dudes who work down at the car wash...
  2. Well done, young Feller.....Dandy bird with a very nice beard...CONGRATS !!
  3. I'll go with your prognosis, Bill...You have certainly handled enough beard strands to recognize them when you see them..
  4. You'll be ok....They are all special, and if you keep turkey hunting you will EARN every bird, believe me...! Tom Kelly said it best in his book " The Tenth Legion"... " If you persevere you will kill a few turkeys that you don't deserve, but you will DESERVE a lot more turkeys that you don't kill"...
  5. The spurs tell the tale...1 1/4 inch spurs usually indicate a 4 year old or perhaps 5...He's an older bird than your first, even though he's lighter... Like people, some turkeys are just bigger than others..I have seen 2 year old gobblers as light as 12 pounds and as heavy as 21 pounds...That's a big difference...
  6. Holy Crap, Batman !! Do you know how rare 12 inch beards are in New York ?? I have been hunting them about 50 years and I have never taken an 11" beard and only a handful over 10"...Super bird, my friend..Congratulations !! I don't suppose that you'll be hunting gobblers next year, will you ??….Hehehehe….
  7. I received the first installment of my annual gobbler season dose of humility this morning... The bird that Moog and I heard yesterday gobbled this morning, and he was much closer than yesterday and quite vocal..He gobbled at most of my calls, cutting me off on some..However, he wasn't moving, so I suspect he had a lady friend with him...After awhile a dog came through the woods barking ( sounded like he was running deer) and that was the end of the gobbling.. About a half hour later, I looked out into the field and saw two birds walking broadside to me... I put the glasses on them ..One was a big gobbler ( big bird, big beard) and the other one was a jake.. I called to them...They completely ignored my calling..Not a gobble, not a reaction.. From the spot they were in I doubted they could see my decoys, but they sure as hell could HEAR me... They walked into the woods, then about a half hour later they came walking back out..They were only about 150 yards away and I was fairly sure they could see at least one of my decoys...I called again...This time the big gobbler stopped and gave me a brief glance..Again, no gobbling and he and the jake went on their merry way..I am pretty sure he flipped me off as he was leaving...A bird gave me the bird.... To add insult to injury, if I had set my blind where I USUALLY set it, they would have walked by me at about 20 yards....Twice....
  8. I'm headed for the property...Good luck and y'all be careful out there....
  9. Cool idea, Larry, but if I did that on my ground I'd probably wake up in the morning with about 20 ticks attached to my wrinkled old ass... Besides, it's only about a 5 minute drive to my hunting property...
  10. Might be pretty good soup in you had 5 or 6 dozen of them...Might be a little CRUNCHY though....
  11. Does the thermacell repell ticks also ?? I have used one for years and I know it works great for skeeters and does a pretty good job on blackflies....
  12. VERY cool...Little baby painted turtle....Thanks for sharing, Bio !!...
  13. We had lots of laughs.....Probably did more laughing than turkey hunting..Hehehe.. Moog has hunted with me twice, and both were very slow days turkey wise, but very enjoyable days in the woods.....ONE day soon , hopefully this season, we'll hit them right.... I just wish the big lug would quit trying to KISS me while we're in the blind...
  14. Helluva bird.....Congrats, My Friend !!……….
  15. Moog is due in about 50 minutes..... Plucked a tick off my belly last night....The one thing I didn't get around to doing was to douche up my clothes with peremethrine…. Good luck to all this morning !!.. I'm hoping to get some action for the Big Chooch !!….
  16. HUMP roast for $60..??....Perhaps...But I would try to talk her down to $50....Perhaps start at 25 and work up...
  17. We were hunting in Thurston Township, Jerry....My buddy leases his property from the Dickson farm...
  18. I got a last minute invite to hunt with a friend on his lease, which is PRIME turkey ground....It used to belong to my brother in law years ago... He had a blind set up on the end of a corn stubble field... ZERO roost gobbling, from a spot where on a decent morning you might hear 5 or six gobblers... After flydown, we started to hear a faint gobble now and then but distant enough that it was hard to tell even what direction it was in...I let my friend do all the calling, since it was his ground, and he was very good with mouth calls, pots and a box... Finally, we heard a gobble that sounded close enough to do business with.... Three longboards came in, and they all looked about the same size to me...He was busy filming the hunt, and when I dropped one, he could have easily killed another one, if he had his gun in his hand rather than the camera... 19 pounds, 10 inch beard, 1" spurs..A solid 3 year old and a nice way to get the pressure off early in the season.. 7:45 AM... I'm looking VERY much forward to hunting with Moog on MY ground in the morning, hoping to help him get his first gobbler..
  19. I've been invited to hunt with a friend at his camp tomorrow morning...Headed up there now....I'll be able to check in tomorrow afternoon or evening, and get set to hunt with Moog Saturday ….Good luck, Y'all...Shoot 'em in the face and be careful out there...
  20. Nope...Definitely not an otter, Bob....I got a very good look at it...And besides, it was high on a ridge, far from water and in a spot where an otter shouldn't otter be..... That said, an acquaintance of mine told me that while deer hunting in the Adirondacks he once shot what he THOUGHT was a fisher ( yeah he knew it was illegal) and when he approached it he discovered he had shot an otter...But he was within 100 yards of the Raquette River....I saw this critter about a mile uphill from the Canisteo River with some very steep terrain between me and the river
  21. When I posted I said it was probably an exaggeration, but to me it APPEARED to be four feet long... Of course, I happened to be taking a leak at the moment, and sighting the critter along the length of my penis, there may have been an issue of perspective...
  22. I shot my scope sighted 11-87 this morning to confirm that is was still on... I set the target at 20 yards...I used a regular turkey load, since I had no reason to think my POA had changed from last year ( 4 gobblers with 4 shots) and I hoped to shoot only once....I shot only once... My pattern at 20 yards was perhaps 8-10" in diameter...If I wanted to get REAL anal, the center of the pattern was perhaps 1 1/2" high and maybe 3/4" to the left … Not worth adjusting the scope for, since the shot charge will be spreading out as the range increases, and will certainly give good coverage out to my max.shooting distance, which is about 45 yards.. We are talking shot patterns here, not benchrest groups... Good luck My Friend...<<smile>>…. P.S. The poor paper turkey's head and neck were SHREDDED...…..
  23. Yeah, we only get 5 days here...Perhaps with them becoming more numerous they will extend the season.. A couple of local boys caught 30 last season...Pretty good for a 5 day season...However, they have a lot of prime acreage to trap and also have the resources to obtain equipment, etc...They were selling their tanned pelts for $150 each, but when you consider the cost of catching them and having them tanned, they probably didn't make all that much $$$ on them...
  24. You know I don't kiss and tell....
