Ix-nay on the ugs-slay...Especially in a tight choke..Slugs may very well shoot in a different spot than a shot load in a smoothbore and they can damage a very tight choke.. Set the target quite close for the initial shots..No further than 25 yards, perhaps even closer...This way the pattern will be concentrated and it will be easier to see where the center is...I use light loads for this to save expense AND my shoulder..I have never seen any significant difference in point of impact in shot loads from light to heavy, at least not in my guns...When you are satisfied that the pattern is centered at the close range, move the target out to longer range, say 40 yards, and fire a shot with your hunting loads to make sure it is ON... Of course, do your shooting from a bench or other solid rest to eliminate human error...

I don't know any football players....

Do you use conibears or leghold ?
-
I thought about that this morning...I'd have to read up on it..I know that I could get permission to trap the property I was on this morning..I have seen several fishers there and also several bobcats while I was hunting deer nd turkeys..

I was standing on a woods road on a friend's property this morning at daylight, listening to a turkey gobble, and I saw something dark moving toward me..It looked nearly black, and my first thought was bear, but as it came into better view I saw it was the biggest fisher I had ever seen..It crossed the road within 30 yards of me, so I got a real good broadside look at it...I couldn't believe the size..I'm sure this is an exaggeration, but I swear it looked four feet long from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail..It had to weigh at least 20 pounds..Impressive creature for sure, and they are getting more numerous here around Dogpatch...I talked to a fellow I know who lives up near Cameron, and he said he'd been losing his guinea hens to them..The guinea fowl roost in trees at night, but the fishers can easily climb the trees and pluck them off the limbs..

That's correct...And a crowded elevator smells different to me too.....

NYTracker helped me retrieve my fly from a tree the last time we fished together...He's a lot taller than I am.. Then again....So is everyone else...

There is an area in Ontario where I hunt gobblers every spring ( except THIS one, of course) that has leek beds like that..The woods are carpeted with them for acres...Intersperst with the leeks are thousands and thousands of trilliums..Trillions of trilliums... The forest floor is a sea of green and white....

Dan....This is probably the WORST time to be selling an African type rifle, but if you hear of anyone interested in a CZ 550 American in 9.3 x62 with no more than 300 rounds through it, let me know...It was my " hunting anywhere with grizzlies" rifle, and I doubt I'll ever use it again...Shoots sub MOA with barnes X 250 grainers...I haven't played much with heavier bullets...

If he is big enough to physically handle your 12 gauge, you could have him shoot it with lighter loads..A full choke 12 gauge with standard 2 3/4 inch shells and 1 1/4 oz. loads of 6 or 7 1/2 shot will absolutely STONE a turkey at 30-40 yards with most full choked guns..Back before 3" mags became common, high velocity 6s or 7 1/2s were considered state of the art for turkey hunting.... Most 20 gauge guns with a mod or full choke will do the job at 30-35 yards...

Just kidding of course...Mossbergs kill a hell of a lot of turkeys every season...Those 835s, especially, are very functional and popular, although the plain Jane 500s work just fine, too.. One of my hunting buddies used a Winchester 97 as his turkey gun years ago, but he lost it in a home burglary, along with 29 other guns...

I just ordered ( and received) some TSX from Midway about a month ago...
-
Funny how that works...This morning it seems like every gobbler in the state was gobbling...Other mornings, nobody hears a peep...
-
At least two gobbling..Sounded like more on the roost, but I was a few minutes late getting there...After flydown, one bird was doing most of the gobbling, probably the dominant gobbler..I wished he'd shut up after awhile..You could hear him from a half mile all the way around and he'll be drawing the attention of the local riff-raff.. I got my blind set up, all ready for Friday, and got the hell out of there...
-
I'm on my way up to the property to listen and to set up one of my blinds.....
-
That's Okay, Son....It could be worse....I've heard that there are some poor cheap pathetic bastards out there that actually hunt with < cringe> MOSSBERGS......
-
Nice, Taco Tim !!.. However, the beauty of hunting out of a blind, is not NEEDING to cut the shine on your shotgun..Hehehe... I camo taped my shiny Rem 1100 and Browning Citori for years, until I finally bought the camo 11-87 in the early 90s, at which time it became my main turkey slayer... However, now that I sit my old fat butt in a popup blind, I don't have to worry about such things ….Hehehe....
-
I realized that after I already made the reply...Oh well..STUPID me.....Hehehe..

How many casts ?? Depends on how many fish you catch..Tough to wear out a fly casting it, unless you hang it up in a tree out of reach, like I usually do... A well tied fly should hold up to at least 8 or 10 fish, if not more, depending on the pattern.....Sometimes the more ragged they get, the better they work...
-
I think you got a defective Benelli, db......Send it to me and I will dispose of it for you and save you the future embarrassment of possessing a Bum Benelli....That is a curse that all shotgunners are loathe to suffer.. Just trying to help you out, Good Buddy.....Anything for a pal....As Gunnery Sergeant Hartman would say...." I really LIKE you....You can come over to my house and **** my sister !! ".....

After viewing the blowup, I agree with Johnplav.. Looks like a deranged, mutant rabbit....
-
I'd say a possum, but their eyes don't generally shine like that...
