Very cool, Moog....Nice to have good friends !!

Off the table, Mabel....The money's for the beer !! Yeah, I remember Black Label...Used to be quite popular here in Dogpatch, along with Iroqouis and Genny.... I never was a Black Label fan, but I did enjoy Carling's Red Cap Ale...

Is that because you're eating at his house ?

My first Turkey hunting experience 50 yrs ago
Pygmy replied to Gobbler Chaser's topic in Turkey Hunting
Back in the 50s and 60s, many people like my Dad and yours were children of the Great Depression....They grew up when meat was expensive and scarce, and they got it when they had the opportunity....I'm certainly not one to moralize regarding them... -
The Mermaid's making bean soup...Pretty good weekend for THAT, too...

Days like today I'm glad I'm no longer hunting.... Ontario gobbler season opens April 25th, and most years I have hunted the first week..A few years ago we had a day like today... My buddy's health was better then and he was hunting every day..About mid morning he stopped by my blind to check on me... I was shaking like a dog passing peach pits...I told him I was glad he stopped because if a turkey showed up HE would have to shoot it, since I was shaking so badly..

And I'm offended because he looks like Bill Schmidt....

Thanks Grampy, but if you consider the hours I have spent in the last 45 plus years hunting compared to the number I have killed, I am a piss poor turkey hunter....I just keep going out until I wear them down....I have spent many hours in the woods and due to that I have made many observations, but those turkeys still kick my butt nine days out of ten... I guess that is why I keep going out...After all of these years it is still a SPECIAL event when I kill one...

Wait until about 700 am and then go track 'em….Hehehe...

You ain,t gonna kill 'em from the couch.. That said, I am fortunate, being retired for the last ten years, I can hunt nearly every day from dawn until noon, and I usually do, as long as I have a valid tag... Defintely more gobbling at first light, but most of those birds ae roosted near hens ( in early season without leaves they can probably SEE hens), and often they are hard to call in because of that... Since 1973, I have seen the sun come up while listening for gobblers perhaps 1000 times or more...For many years I hunted before work in NY and PA, every day as long as I had a legal tag.. The birds that gobble later in the morning IMHO, are generally more willing to do business.... I have a hunting buddy who is the best turkey hunter I know, and has killed many more gobblers than I have..He has killed LOTS of gobblers between 11:00 am and Noon...Still, he is in the woods every morning before daylight...

I have used single beads, double beads, adjustable fiber optic open sights, red dots and a low power scope... I liked the double bead a lot, and I have a Rem 1100 with double beads that shoots nuts on to point of aim that I still use sometimes...Tried the red dots and did not care for them, but a lot of guys love 'em...My favorite sighting system of all time was a set of rib mounted adjustable fiber optic sights.. I think they were truglo, and if I screwed up on the first shot I they worked as well as the bead on running or flying birds...Finally my eyes got bad enough that I am not that confident with open sights, so I mounted a low power Leupold scope on my 11-87...It's been working well ( 6 shots for 6 gobblers in the last 2 years), but I wouldn't want to take a running or flying shot with it...

I may have missed something, but what sighting system are you using ? Obviously you need to adjust it so that your pattern is at point of aim...Shooting a little high is easier to compensate for than shooting low..All of my Brownings have patterned high when I aim them deliberately as when shooting at a standing turkey, but I learned to hold where the neck joins the body and did fine with them..Shooting low is worse because your bead is covering up your target...Either go to an optical sighting system or an open sight that is fully adjustable...

You should see the picture he posted on the " Hot Studs from Buffalo" forum.....

Actually, that is Andrew Cuomo, cleverly disguised as a rabbit... He is watching to be sure that you are practicing safe social distancing, especially with that blonde with the big Ta-tas, who lives across the street..
