  1. Just the brown one..He was facing away from me...
  2. Could be...Years ago I was bowhunting elk near Ocate, New Mexico, and I bumped into a turkey on a trail as I was walking in in full darkness before daylight...
  3. Hmmm.. The "French Press"....That sounds like something that FIFI used to do down at Mabel's House of Pleasure.... I sure do MISS her...<<sigh>>….
  4. I have never been able to find proper fiddleheads here in Dogpatch, either....But then I have never found morels either, and some of my friends find them..
  5. Yeah Biz...That was back when Moby Dick was a minnow...
  6. I have mine mounted on bed slats from a whorehouse in Billings, Montana, autographed by Ernest Hemingway....
  7. Good job, Moog and Culver... K.I.S.S..... My 40 year old Rem 1100 has just the factory front bead plus a mid bead that I had installed...When cheeking the stock and lining up the beads, it shoots PERFECTLY to point of aim and has accounted for many turkeys...I still use it on occasion, but since my vision has declined I prefer an optical sight, like the Leupy 1X4 on my 11-87... One advantage of the plain barrel over the optical sights is that if you choke ( which I have done many times) on the standing shot and have to take a running or flying shot for the backup, the plain barrel works much better, at least for me.
  8. So who is going to USE that room ?? There isn't room enough there for YOU to stand up.... Want to hire me as your secretary..? I work for beer money....It would be a PLUS if there is some horny old woman next door who can take her teeth out...
  9. Something good for the wildlife, good for the soil and easy to grow ?? BUCKWHEAT !!….
  10. Bless yore pea pickin' little HEART !!!! Pretty guns kill stuff too !!...Good luck, My Friend !!
  11. Glad to hear you were working rather than fishing..I was working up on the property, feeling bad all afternoon because I was working and you were fishing.. THANKS !! I feel better now....
  12. Yeah, looks pretty scary to me too, Larry...I think he should turn it in to the authorities and buy himself something that Joe Biden would approve of, like a double barrel....
  13. Glad to see you closed the lens covers before you sprayed it....Hehehe...
  14. There's no deer in Steuben County either....
  15. There aren't any turkeys in Steuben County.....Hehehe...Good luck, my friend...Wish I had a kid to take out in the morning,, but due to the pandemic, I'll have to wait until next year..
  16. Hehehehe...I made the mistake of not ordering any extra tippet rings when I ordered the leader... At present the one that came with the leader is hanging about ten feet up in a tree ( along with 2 of my flies) along a stream in west central Steuben County, so I am back to attaching my tippet with a blood knot...
  17. I bought a Scientific Anglers Absolute Euro Nymph leader.. 13.5 feet, tapered to 2x at the tippet ring..The sighter is a tri-colored length of mono just above the tippet ring... This is my first attempt at tight line nymphing...Can't really say that the sighter has been a big advantage, since I have felt nearly every strike...Still getting used to the system.....Not real adept at it yet...I need a tall, handsome, long legged fish monger to take me fishing and show me how to do it properly...
  18. You mean trout actually EAT those things ?
  19. I surely do miss my days of running and gunning...It was common for me to cover 5 o6 miles ( or more) on foot in a morning's hunt...Even if you're not hearing birds, you get to see a lot of real estate and enjoy the outdoors... Blind hunting can be very boring if there is nothing going on, but it also has some advantages, especially if you have scouted your areas well and have faith that there are birds using the area.. Back when I was covering lots of ground, I am sure I walked right past many gobblers that I might have heard if I listened more and walked less... Id' stop, listen for a couple of minutes, give a few calls, and if I didn't hear a bird, I'd be off to listen down the next hollow or over the next ridge.. Sometimes if I DID hear a bird, I'd be in a less than ideal spot to set up, and often you have to set up in a hurry...and don't have time to find the best spot to call from.. Many times since I have blind hunting, I have waited for a couple of hours, perhaps more without hearing anything, and then suddenly have a bird gobbling close to me..It is also quite a thrill to be able to watch a bird come in from a distance in the open.....In the woods, often you don't see the bird until he is in gun range, at least if you are doing it right... I sometimes miss hunting the way I used to hunt, but I have adapted to my new methods and am just tickled pink that I am still able to get out and enjoy the sport....And I'm still killing gobblers, so I must be doing SOMETHING right...Hehehe...
  20. SO, are they going to be skinny red chickens that lay a lot of white eggs, or fat white chickens that lay fewer brown eggs ?
  21. Do you have an Ameristep Doghouse ?? Sounds like it....I have struggled over the last ten years trying to figure the best way to use the windows...For awhile I buttoned up and shot through the mesh, but after awhile that seemed to be kind of limiting, since the windows are so small and sometimes you only have a few seconds to execute the shot.... What I have settled on the last couple of years is to keep the front flap down, but only about half way..This way you can lower yourself so that you are not real visible, and also use the bottom of the flap to rest your gun on, and trust me, there will times when you will need to have your gun shouldered for fairly long periods of time... The two side windows, I leave the back part closed and unzip the front far enough so that I have about a 180 degree field of fire..That gives me a little cubby in the back of the blind that I can hunker down in without being skylighted from any direction... I usually leave the back flap unzipped just a little, not enough to skyline me, but enough so I can peek out the back if I feel I need to... I also keep a Primos Trigger Stik in the blind and use it when I have time to get set up with it...However, sometimes things happen fairly quickly and I have to get the job done without it..
  22. I agree, and I related to Moog that I use light loads to establish the point of aim, and then confirm at hunting ranges with a couple of the heavy ones... However, as far as "beating" Moog with ANYTHING...I have stood beside him and I would not hit him with ANYTHING unless I had Peter Hathaway Capstick standing right behind me, backing me up with his .600 Nitro elephant gun....
  23. Wait for the gobbler to gobble on the roost.....In a blind/field setup I never call until either I heard a gobbler, or until it gets late enough so I figure that the birds have flown down... If a bird gobbles, give him a few soft yelps to let him know you are there..If he answers, you are golden...Don't call anymore until you are sure he is on the ground...Calling to a bird on the roost encourages him to stay there, watching for the hen ( you) and gobble more, possibly attracting other hunters, or calling in hens.. If it gets late enough so the birds should be on the ground, give a few yelps every so often...I usually do a couple or three strings of soft yelps every ten minutes or so if I am hearing nothing.... Once again, be patient...Since you have no other place to hunt, you may as well sit in the blind until noon...You may sit there until 11:00 am and hear nothing, and then BINGO !! Game on.....
