  1. A few of the plastic containers with the pop out felt wick, they come in different colors and you can wet the wick with whatever you wish. For practice I gust have 1 pin and just shoot at 20 yards.I do not hunt open feilds, just wooded areas so any thing beyond that , is a wasted shot to me.
  2. And alky. tested. They should remember You can make some of the people happy some of the time BUT NOT ALL Of THE People Happy All Of The TIme.
  3. Another thing to go wrong at wrong time.
  4. Gro, my property goes from 2000 feet to 2500 feet, they move around it all day but before sunset thy come down low and cross the road to my neighboes property (around 2000 feet ) which is loaded with old and new pines.More so in foul weather.
  5. Thanks burmjon for reminding us Just got a doe permit for my area.Denied second choice.Over the internet.

  7. WD40 / Junk. Use Gun Oil.And only a light coating.
  8. Cograts, Now Practice,Practice,Practice.
  9. Nice Shop and Nice work.I have to laugh at one thing, about 10 years we were going around with one of our engineers and looking at a CNC Milling machine, Just 3 axis and a CNC Lathe. Every building in the back of there show room had a Bridgport or a clone of one. Good luck hunting .
  10. As NFA - ADK said weather most likely is a big reason. And the accidents that can go along with foul weather. Long Island has a milder climate ( but it can get pretty nasty at times ) and they are open Oct. 01 to Dec. 31 then special shotgun season in Jan. Back tags I do not understand also. Even here in the Catskill Park you are not required to wear them. Question Machinist are you really one, I retired from that trade after over 50 years. My bosses called me a machining machinist.
  11. It is what it s and has always been that way.We got 2 more weeks last year. Unless you live on L.I. which always started earlier. What is stopping you from going up there and starting early. I know quite a few people here in the Catskill area that have or had hunting camps up there and couldn't wait to go there and hunt every year.
  12. I would buy extra 1" load binders, a cable lock or 2, something to put over your head to keep the rain from going down your neck. And some camo burlap to put around the sides also.
  13. Same here up in the morning / down in the late afternoon.Just watch the ridges bucks like to travel them.
  14. As I said once before I put one of the little post-its with my extra cards for the cameras saying where I moved them to.
  15. After tonight till Monday night, Mid. 70's during the day and high 40 to low 50's at night, No need to turn the heat on yet here.
  16. I was going to put some seed down on some of the little clearings I made on the side of a hill, sure glad I did not,It seems like we got a weeks supply of heavy rain last night it all would have washed away. Not that we didn't need it but not all at once.
  17. I was looking out the kitchen window this morning and the deer came from the property across from mine, mom and here 2 young ones and her sister who I think lost her young one a few days after it was born ( been talk of someone near by hitting one while cutting hay ) Anyway mom goes up to the apple tree picks off some apples and drops them on the ground and the young one started chomping them up.Then they went over to the tree tops that I just cut down and were eating them. The apples here are just starting to get a reddish tint to them.
  18. Years ago when I was a lot younger and a lot stronger, my neighbor who I was hunting with shot a bear between 250 - 275 pounds my neighbor was no weakling either, the bear was shot down in a gulley and we had to carry it up hill. first it was like a bowl of jelly, flopping all over, second I almost puked my brains out from the stink.Well that day I made up my mind never to shoot a bear,I have had many chances to take one some up to 600 pounds and had them walk past fellow hunters near me who also let them walk. If you get one I would gut it skin it out very carefully If you want it for a rug and come back for the rest if you want it latter on. Have Fun.
  19. Just to give a heads up on them, They are not paid to do what they do they are dedicated people doing it just to help the hunters out. Most are hunters themselves.Remember you Have to get the land owners permission for them to go on that property and search for a deer or bear. The dogs they use are there own personal dogs which they purchase with there own funds,Deer Search Inc. helps in the training of the dogs. They have to pass a test given by the NYS DEC to get a license. If you call them to find a deer or bear and if they find it or not just give them a Tip for showing up something that you can afford. I know because I am a past member, can't go on any more searches because of a bad heart at 72 years old.
  20. Listening to a few fellows who have hunted in the mid. and western states on some of the places like that. This was on Long Island, NY. out east around the farms. Two of the fellows harvested 8 pointers that morning. There comment was that we went all the way out there spent all that money and got better looking deer ( antlers size ) right here at home. This was during archery season. There was one 10 pointer that was seen and on trail camera pictures that was very close if not over 300 pounds. And I have seen pictures of deer over 200 pounds also taken on L.I. and Schoharie county, N.Y..
  21. 20' x 40' fenced in with chicken wire , 2 rows of sun flower seeds, 3 rows of corn, carrot seeds between them, cucumber seeds, egg plant seeds, pumpkin seeds and 12 corn plants from a green house.nadda, nothing came up + something chopped down the corn stalks. Little 4' x10' garden about 50' away also fenced in.Tomato plants doing good, kale is good, onions growing, peppers doing good, broccoli growing, lettuce was great,
  22. Started making a trail this morning to get to some downed trees for firewood, might just open it up a little more and put some lime and triple 15 down and sprinkle some oats seed.On the way up to that spot I went past one of my little plots and there bedded down just outside of it were 2 young fawns.
  23. As Doc said, I'll bet food plotters get the same feeling of satisfaction as a job well done. X2 on that. Looking out the window right now, threw the trees around 150 yards out back there are a few deer feeding in one of the clearings.
  24. Once a week. All Year long.
  25. Congrats Geno your going to like it I have a 2005, 500 auto love it bought it for more of a utility vec. then a pleasure ride actually used it for pulling out my sled that was stuck between 2 trees and my JD tractor also, with the winch on the front ,served me well , keep up on the maint. and it will last longer then us.I also bought an Otter tilting trailer that I tow behind it , must have moved 70 cords of wood with it in the last 7 years.
