When I lived on L.I. and just joined Deer Search, going out looking for deer as a trainee with a well seasoned person and dog, most deer that were recovered and most the next day bled out but most were from Bad Shots.

I spent 2 - 1/2 months in the hospitle, took my foot off of my leg. Thanks to the doctor that spent plenty of time fixing combat injuries put my ankle back together with 5 pins and 7 screws,I somehow got staff infection, every 3 days the would take the cast off do a blood and visiual test then a new cast went on. had the staff inf. dormant until I would aggrivate the angle by hitting it into something ,Then I would go on meds. Now that Dr. said (and keep this in mind) that when you brake a bone you will eventualy get arthritis in that area.He was right 15 years later I could not put a sheet over my foot at night the pain was just too much( and I am not a pill junkey and stand a good amount of pain) Eventualy the immoblized the ankle and a month later I was up in the Catskills Hunting, thanks to a great doctor.BR.After the 2 -1/2 month stay in the hospitle, My friends took me Rifel hunting ( I was still in a half cast ) Set me up in a beach chair wrapped me in a blanket ( no cell phones then ) My Rem. 742 with an extra clip. Had Does walking around me all day,No bucks. And the one year we did not get a party permit,A memory I will never forget. That was 20 years ago when I had the ankle fusion ( which people tell me I do not have it) and still can walk up and down the hills.

Depends where I am going to hunt on my property around the house walk, top of the property ATV most of the way.I am on it every day or on the tractor doing something out there so the are not spooked by either,99% of the time they just stand and watch as you go by them.I could have filled my tag a number of times this year, just been too warm,I like to let them hang a day or two before cutting them up. The worst thing you can do if on one is shut it off when near them, put the brake on get off and thake your shot.

There are some some with good racks on them, they didn't get that way by comming out into the fields during the day unless the are pushed. You have to do some hikeing up in the hills to find them.

If you wan't to stay warm, check out www.wiggys.com.a Jerry is a fellow New York who moved out west and started this business. His stuff is not cheap but it works.

Keep the wind in your face, hunt on the ground from a natural blind or ground blind.Yesterday the deer and turkeys moved from the lower ground to the higher part of the property all were bedded facing the wind.A little after noon.

It's not hot here 20's - 30's at night and high 40's during the day Might be hot for the younger croud, but when you get to the age where you get a free archery and MZ. license it's not hot. Question why do you have to put up another stand.have you ever used a ground blind ?.

Sounds like you are bothered by what other people think, ones that have scored this year and you have not .If they think it is a contest who gets the biggest, most or soonest. That is up to them to think what they want.It should not bother or upset you.Gust block it out of you mind and go out there and hunt ,enjoy the outdoors, It is what you think not what they do that will make yourself happy.Hang in there the big one will show up.It's a waiting game.

I hope you have the wind blowing in your face not on your neck.

You have a intellegent son there doing what he did calling Deer Search Inc. as soon as he did, Many wait too long and make it a lot harder on both the dog and handler. Out of curosity what breed of dog was it.A lot of time and effort is put in training the dogs. When i was a member of the group and in training I went out with a dedicated whoman handler named Lee,She is the one I mentioned on Shelter Island, NY, spent 2 days but thet found the deer a really big 10 pointer. So if you call them Tips are appreciated. And Young fellow congrats on a nice deer.

Are you talking about a climer or a ladder stand ?. If you are any way near as old as I am the days of the climer are gone unless you are moving around a lot and in good shape, Threw the years I have found seats with arms, the arms get in the way when bow hunting. I do not move around that much any more just hunt my property.Ladder stands ,not the most expensive, plenty of 3/8" cable. And a Good Lock. A Swivel seat that straps on to the tree trunk, can turn easy with out making any noise.Made my own safety rail hinged goes up and down .And the strap on umberellas over head,On the safety rail I hang camo burlap, Never been busted.
