O ya she’s gonna get frosty out there tonight. Our weather station says 2 degree wind chill. It was probably worse a little while ago when the winds were high.

Did some freezer filling this afternoon. Me and a buddy sat in my blind and had somewhere around just under 20 does come out into the field within a few min time span. We were both trying to get lined up on mature does but with so many running out so quick it was a bit confusing trying to figure out who’s shooting what and on 1,2,3 haha. My CVA made a perfect heart shot on my doe. She made it about 20 yards. I sure do like that damn cheap gun, shoots awesome. My buddy missed his, says me shooting first by a split second threw him off a bit. I could have even bump him a bit with my recoil, not sure. But it was a good few hours spent in the blind with success at the end. Will drop her off at the butcher tomorrow, plenty cold to hang that’s for sure!!

Sounds like a good day in the woods. I never made it over there. Wife had other plans for me[emoji849]. I ended up getting out in my blind for the last 2 hours. Had 12 does and fawns come out just before dark. I can’t hunt today but tomorrow afternoon one of those does is in trouble [emoji51]

Damn, seriously!!!??? What a ending.

So I get suited up in my garage, turn the lights off and walk out the side door and around the front only to almost run right into a doe! We scared the hell out of each other big time! I literally made it half way across the front of my two car garage and I look up and bam there’s a deer 3 ft in front of me! I quick turn my headlamp on after it turned and took one leap back, damn thing just stood there looking at me for a few mins. I said alright little girl, I’m going that way so your gonna have to move over. Walked her direction, she side stepped 8 for or so and just let me walk right on past her within 10ft. That was around 540am. Been settled in the blind since 550 or so. What a beautiful morning! Got my heater fired up and the muzzy is ready to bark.

Ya most likely there. Usually hunt there a couple times a year but haven’t been there once yet this year. There’s a couple spots I always like to stop and walk around in there

4 inches of fresh snow at my place when I left for work. Took me 30 mins extra to get to work tonight. Lots of accidents. I’ll be out of here around 2-3am so I’ll be headed out to my blind nice and early. Hoping they put the feed bag on and come to my plot to eat. Might stop by the state land later in the day and see if I can catch a good track to follow in the snow. I love hunting in the snow. Good luck to everyone headed out tomorrow

Eugene needs to go. I hate that guy. Idk what’s worse, his lack of a back bone or the way he talks.

Well since you gave me permission...I believe you know little about what you speak of.

Lol biz got burned! I will make it out Sunday at least for one last hoorah for reg season. But at this point I’m just ready to drop a couple does with the muzzy and get them in the freezer. I think I’m going to go another year with no buck[emoji53]. I sure did pass a lot of decent and young ones, way more than the year before as well. Trail cam pics were off the charts compared to the year before as well. I guess the things I’m doing are working well. Hoping the 3rd year will be the charm for a good mature buck. I’ll be ready that’s for sure

Ok well you pretty much changed course by retreating back to the “it’s the law”. It may be the law here and I follow it because I don’t want to deal with the BS but that doesn’t mean we have to think it’s a good law or one that makes much sense or has much effect. Come on now, are you one of the guys who thinks 9/11 was a inside job too? Record book deer are 99.9% legally taken. There’s always someone who tries to cheat and like you even said, they get caught sooner or later. But to dismiss a entire collection of records because of a couple cheats that get weeded out in the end doesn’t make any sense. Especially in today’s technologically connected society, whistles are blown within minutes of a record buck hitting the ground.

How’s that any different than people thinking treestands aren’t “fair chase”? Almost every Midwest state has legal baiting, and they shoot record book deer every year. So if it wasn’t considered “fair chase” how do you explain the record books being full of deer? High fence and baiting are two very different things. One is allowed in the record books and the other isn’t, so I guess you could say it’s a pretty cut and dry argument over what is considered “fair chase”. My acres of food plots has changed the natural habitat, what’s the difference? The spreading of diseases is going to happen with or without the bait. Deer are constantly up on each other.

Albany Times Union Story on a Hunter

For what they cost they should come with Kevlar straps.... -
If that’s the only effect, then why make it illegal? If everyone could do it, your biggest argument against it suddenly disappears.

Browse through Craigslist sometime and check out all the people selling used feeders. They will post pics of them using it in their back yard! Also quite a few parcels of land for sale that advertise “good hunting” and have trail cam pics for evidence of that and those pics quite often have feeders in them. I’m tellin ya, it’s WAY more common than you’d imagine. Which leads me to my opinion that it’s a stupid law because if there were any adverse effects from baiting on deer health, we’d sure as hell know about it by now.
-
I don’t dispute what’s legal and what’s not. I was being sarcastic about the people on here wanting guys locked away for 25 to life for a bucket of corn. I personally think it’s stupid for baiting to be illegal but I also don’t argue the fines imposed on those who are caught. The punishment that’s in place currently I feel is sufficient, unlike others who think such a small crime should constitute loss of license for life. Like come on get real. There’s also a big difference in baiting and poaching, I think some here have blurred the line between the two. While I don’t see baiting as a problem, I don’t agree with poaching deer out of season, at night or from a truck. O and what’s this about deer being slaughtered off? Don’t tell me that’s your reasoning why baiting should be illegal lmao🤣
-
Come to think of it. I might just get a life sentence[emoji15]. I have close to a thousand pounds of corn in my shed...just having corn around must be illegal if I’m a hunter right?
-
Bunch of self righteous wanna be punishers on here[emoji849] Might as well lock this one up and throw away the keys. More people bait than probably anyone on here can imagine. Anyone who thinks it’s going to stop anytime soon is a fool. And anyone thinking these people will become labeled as felons because of it are clueless to this little thing called reality. I have deer come and eat the corn I put out for my chickens once and awhile if there’s any left, I guess I should be stripped of all my rights and thrown in jail for 25 years now right?
-
That only matters for people who care about what others think, which is the problem with everyone in 2017. If a nasty lookin dog ran up in my yard after my kids I’d blast it until it looked like Swiss cheese no matter who was watching. Grow, I think you really need to just keep this simple and revert back to the ol “Three S’s rule”.

A decent wool blended base layer and try not to wear much clothing walking in is what I do. If I have anything over a 1/4 mile walk or any big hills to climb I strap my outer layers to my pack and walk in my base layers. Might be chilly for the first few mins but once you get your blood pumping you warm up pretty quick. My feet sweat like crazy so if the walk is real far, 2 miles or more I carry my thick socks in my pack and wear light ankle socks in, swap for the heavy socks when I get where I’m going. Warm and dry feet make a world of a difference. Hope this helps!

Sunrise is 708 according to wunderground. I knew I had lots of time. But like I said, nice and peaceful sitting here in the pitch black blind with just a small red glow from the heater. I’ve had a crazy busy week leading up to this, sometimes a guy just needs that alone time to depress that sleeping just can’t fix.

Anyone see this buck? Nice buck for sure. Two buddy’s are hunting up there this weekend. One of them missed a real big buck yesterday. So everyone hunting up there keep your eyes open there’s still a good one running around! Lol

I’ve been in my blind since 538. Earlier than needed but I really enjoy these quiet mornings in here in the red glow of the buddy heater. Very peaceful. Hoping to make the muzzy bark today. Still trying to hold out for the big 10 I have around but my freezer is telling me I need to shoot something ASAP.

Our old camp in Otsego county was right on the border of chenango. My entire life growing up my dad and Uncle told me there were no bears out there and I roamed those hundreds of acres alone from 5 years old. The fall before we sold the camp we witnessed our first black bear come bolting down the hill across our lawn and down the hill past us. We couldn’t believe it. Next day we spot another one a couple miles away on a back road. So two sightings in two days. We were shocked! The funny part is I swear I saw one running like 10 years earlier when hunting with my dad. He split off to try and push some deer my way and about 10 mins after he left I see this black thing flying through some thick stuff about 100 yards out. I only caught a couple glimpses of it but I knew it was a bear. I told everyone about it and they all laughed and said I was seeing stuff cause there hasn’t been a bear in that area for almost 100 years. I knew I wasn’t crazy!
