  1. I don't read it that way either. I guess these boys will have to prove it in court. If I were a seller of such firearms I would want to leave NO doubts in anyones mind since there are some stringent laws regulating them. To me this issue is no different than antler restrictions. Everyone knows that I am against antler restrictions, but if I hunt in a unit that has antler restrictions and I am caught killing a spike, then I'm screwed and deserve the fine. Bitching and moaning that the law is wrong won't get me off the hook.
  2. I don't know, I surely am not up to speed on what is considered and assault weapon in NYS. However, when I walk into a gun shop these days the majority of long guns that I see on the shelves are military styled weapons. I would think store owners selling them would know what constitutes legal or illegal since the state has some stringent regulations on them. If they were dumb enough to sell what is considered illegal just to make some fast money, then I guess they got what was coming to them.
  3. What bet? I didn't lose a thing, while you probably did lose your computer when you put a bullet hole in it when I said boo.
  4. Funny how some of you will use Darwin's theories when they suit you. I guess all the stupid people in the world need to bow down to you for helping them stay alive? You are a legend in your own mind, that is for darned sure. I doubt there are any theories out there that can dispute that!
  5. Vigilant or not, I bet you didn't see my boo coming!
  6. I see death coming to you and me one day also. You can be sure we won't escape it. Should I spend every minute of the day worrying about it? I sure won't.
  7. Boo!! I hope that didn't scare you too much.
  8. Its already here, check the prices of equipment and find private land access or a lease. And WE are to blame for that not the govt. Just look at the number of people that are ok with higher fee's for every thing. Exactly Doe! It's not the government or PETA that wants $7000 for a whitetail hunt in Texas. If hunting becomes what VJP suggests, it will be our fault, not PETA's, the governments or anyone else. Of course it's always easier to blame the boogeymen!
  9. For your information, you obviously aren't the sharpest tool in the shed neither! Thinking that every bloody gunowner/hunter out there should think exactly the same way as you and be as paranoid as you actually proves it all quite nicely to us. LOL
  10. So who is making this concerted effort? PETA? The humane society? Sorry to tell you, but their concerted efforts have not put more than a mere scratch on hunting in this country. As far as I know every damned state in the union has a hunting season of one form or another. Even the most liberal states have never put an outright ban on hunting into effect. Yeah, maybe a special hunt has been stopped somewhere along the way, but as I've said this is no more than a mere scratch on hunting opportunities in this country. Hunting brings in the bulk of revenue for wildlife and environmental management to states and it will be a cold day in hell before the states just throw away such a source of revenue. Hunting ain't going anywhere anytime soon!! Sorry to have to say it but some of you guys are downright paranoid. You think the boogeymen are hiding in the bushes in your backyards and are out to get for everything that you do. This is pretty sad if you ask me. One should go about living life and not constantly be obsessed with what the other guy may have up his sleeve.
  11. Thanks Culver, and I think extremely highly of you also. I surely don't think we are far apart in our thinking. I just don't lose much sleep over guns. We have a large enough arms industry in this country that banning them or their manufacture would put a good many people out of work and I don't see that happening any time soon. I don't think hunters will ever be in jeopardy of losing their guns either. States need game killed for public safety sake and everyone is well aware that hunters with guns are the ones to get that job done. Bow, crossbow or muzzleloader hunters can never fill the void. As far as other guns that are most frequently used in crime, well what can I say? Like I said in another thread, the gun manufacturers don't sell them to the bad guys in some back alleys. Most all guns are brought to market "legally". From then on what is actually legal or illegal is up for debate. Obviously the guns are being bought legally by those who can buy them legally and then end up in the hands of people who shouldn't have them. Obviously there seems to be a breakdown somewhere in reasonable safeguards that might prevent the bad guys from getting them so easily. I am not saying I have a good solution to it all, but some of us at least can see that problems do exist and in my opinion they are not helping the law abiding gun owners cause one bit.
  12. Yeah, we have all seen films of the old Soviet Union. You forget that the people living in the old Soviet Union ditched that government a good while ago. Only people living in LaLa land think that this country now wants to go down that same route. If you don't like Barry, get someone to run who can beat him in the next election. Quite simple really. Complaining about him won't solve much.
  13. Doe, you need to speak louder. There is a black helicopter hovering over his house at the moment. He just sent his boy out to fire a few shots at it. At least the boy is good for something!
  14. You guys really think that armed citizens could hold off government forces with pistols, rifles and shotguns only?? I think not. Maybe 230 years ago the armed citizens with muzzleloading weapons had a chance against government forces, but these days things are a bit different. That is why what was written 230 years ago doesn't exactly hold water in the same way today. As I have mentioned before the same people who wrote the 2nd amendment also were slave owners and had NO problem with the concept of slavery. Of course today things are also a bit different. If everything they wrote and believed in back then is so perfect, how could they be so right with one idea and so wrong with the other?? My hunch is that things back then don't exactly relate to things today with both of these issues. I know most here can't accept this, but this is just a very simple example. Their ideas back then were in general good and a foundation for what was to come afterwards. They had no crystal ball to look into what the world would be like in 200 plus years. If they did, maybe they would have had a change of heart as to some of the ideas they had back then.
  15. If this is true, the system is totally screwed up. Fines should be administered to anyone who is caught doing something against regulations. NO exceptions for anyone.
  16. I sure would. I hunt for some good tasting venison. Don't make a difference if the deer has horns or not.
  17. If this is true, it surely doesn't say much about trophy hunting in my opinion. And before anyone starts arguing that these guys are poachers and not hunters, please explain to me why they would be shooting "trophy" sized deer in the first place if they weren't somehow obsessed with "trophies"? Call them what you want but I have always felt that hunting for horns and all the accolades that can come with it brings out the worst in people.
  18. I used to watch Buckley's show. I will give you that he was an interesting character, but NO Mother Teresa by any stretch of the imagination. Many people also forget that his brother James was Senator of NYS in the early 70's.
  19. If I ever see someone representing American conservatism with the morals and self-sacrifice of a Mother Teresa, then I might become a believer. Until then I will forever be skeptical.
  20. Well, this I can somewhat agree with. I hope you one day also can come to the realization that other statistics given by people you tend to agree with can be full of BS also. LOL My only point with morality is that in general the same types of human flaws exist everywhere, no matter how moral some try to portray themselves as. Those who consider themselves MORE moral actually end up with more egg on their faces when they themselves don't live up to the standards they try to set for others.
  21. I somehow think I would still trust meat with a little freezer burn sooner than I would canned meat that has been sitting around for three years. I can see canning jams, tomato sauce, pickles, but meat somehow seems like more trouble than it's worth. Like Doe said, the tougher parts can be made into ground meat.
  22. What advantages does canning have over simply thawing out a piece from the freezer and making anything you want out of it? If you have a good freezer and vacuum pack your meat it can last for a good long time, so I wonder what advantages canning can have?
  23. So are the flag waving, conservative thinking Americans any better than liberals as far as this morality is concerned? You may want to look up what states have the highest divorce rates in the nation. The RED states have a lock on this! LOL If they were so moral wouldn't you think it would be the other way around?? They are full of $#!+ just like anyone else in my opinion.
  24. I googled it and some video about Capt. Kirk and Spock being gay came up...I am done guessing...LOL Earlier it was Bubba and Ben, and now we hear about Kirk and Spock. What is this world coming to?
