Went on a hunt once way up near St. Lawrence way and the lady guide gave us some venison she puts up in mason jars..It was awesome. I think F-150 described her method perfectly..

Why not let hunters who already paid for licenses and stamps hunt these deer rather than use tax dollars to pay sharpshooters?.Why everything in this state has to be a major clusterf@% is beyond me. In areas like eastern Long Island they should should have longer seasons, more tags, allow baiting and expand the use of crossbows to help reduce a herd that is obviously out of control using the current hunting methods.Like the snow goose explosion where they relaxed the rules to curtail expansion it shoud be the same for this particular herd.

I tell my customers to always go by the NY syllabus. When you purchase your license grab a copy or two and keep it in your pack while hunting and keep a copy in your truck.Never a good idea to ask for these type questions on the internet even though alot of great advice is given here there can always be a mistake. All the stamps are explained in the book and could help clear up lots of confusion the night before or morning you plan to hunt.I cant tell you how many times I've heard "I thought that was legal" or "My buddy said..." If you have the book you cant make a potentilly bad mistake You can also download the info from the DEC website and keep it on you if you have access to the internet Hope this was helpful

Back when i was on my quest for the grand slam in turkey hunting I had all my species then decided on the royal slam.I did my grand slam travelling alone, none of my hunting buddies were interested in a slam hunt..My wife who never hunted with me before said "MEXICO" sounds like vacation!.I said ok you can come..well if your coming you might as well shoot a turkey..you guessed it..the wifes first turkey was a mexican goulds that I called in for her and it all happened in about an hour after fly down!."GEE thats fun lets do it again"While we were on the trip there were two outdoor writers from NY who quickly looked up the books. No female world slam holder in NY registered. So off we go..I get to do my whole grand slam all over again with her so she can get a bird then its off to the jungle in mexico for the occelated birds..crazy experience hunting turkeys around jaguars and howler monkeys!.Then one year she shoots a nice 8pt in Pa.Thats it its official I cant go without her. This coming spring we are planning a turkey hunt in Canada she wants to kill turkeys eveywhere!

The most important point brought up in the video is the use of a what we call a "shop release". It simulates a release but it cannot be fired. So many guys blowing up their bows on a dry fire before the season is about to start. Not good.Especially with these new speed bows, bad things happen during a dry fire, usally espensive things. On most bows that are fully setup and tailored to the owner a 1inch measurement in front of the riser is good.Which means depending on your setup your ARROW length could be different. Its bow specific ,your arrow length could change if you change to a different bow.

Thats weird we hunt 7S and its a high percentage rate for DMP's.We have 10 on the lease and all get a tag every year. You sure your putting it in as your FIRST choice when applying?.If you were denied 2 years in a row you would have started this year with 2 preference points which virtually would have guaranteed a tag in 7S this yr.

I'm not totally familiar with their parcel of land (if its fenced or not) but in that area of the country with a large enough tract of land with the proper QDM practices and feed program that quality of wild animals are indeed possible. No its not public land scouting and putting in the shoe leather kind of hunting but it still takes a hell of alot of work to produce those results.I guess it all depends on the individual if you call it real hunting or not.Dont we all put in food plots and hope to grow big deer?, dont we all pass on the little ones hoping they grow up?.unfortunately we just dont have the deer genetics and density here in NY like other big deer producing states coupled with a large human population and rampant poaching and a non feeding law its just not a fair comparison.Of course if theres fences involved or deer sperm brought in and a artificial breeding program going on then it all goes out the window and THATS not real hunting. If it just the result of a efficient QDM program than more power to them, its all the hyped up crap they hawk on TV thats baloney, but all that land and work costs money!!

The south shore waterfowlers are the guys you want to get in touch with , great group of guys, you def want to try to make the duckboat show this fall looks like it will be Oct 27 this year.We have a few tables of waterfowling gear on display and sponsor the BENELLI shoot, come over and say hello. There is def a learning curve to hunting ducks on the salt marsh lots of variables and danger but it comes with the territory. We can point you to some places without burning spots.google the waterfowlers website for updated time and location on the show You can also give us a call at the shop for local migration updates and some pointers 516-678-5554 Good luck Rob

We went towards the end of the spring season and drove a rental car around the entire island. The northern part held some ranches that looked like they were in Wyoming or Montana. The turkeys were still seeking mates and we really did see loads of gobblers in full strut almost continuously during out trip.It was awesome and very frustrating at the same time as you could imagine.I'll bet it wouldnt be that hard to gain permission for a hunt but getting a gun onto the island is tricky with red tape but not impossible. My wife took me to a private beach in a resort where we had to walk through the golf course to get to a secluded beach area aprox 100 yds from the beach were huge longbeard gobblers strutting and gobbling for the hens in the middle of the day with tourists just walking by in bathing suits!!!!.The goat hunt was awesome and I ended up taking a nice cinnamon colored brown one that the guide froze the head in the ranch freezer and we picked it up at the end of our trip and checked it in on the plane like luggage no problem.

I hunted the Big Island 2 years ago on the Parker Ranch. They were heavily advertised as a hunting ranch but when I got there I was told that its not really a priority anymore maybe lack of interest. It is a working cattle ranch and thats the main source of income.I did get hooked up with a great guy that worked on the ranch who was ex military and a shooting instructor and he guided me on a goat hunt.He told me that the family members that own the ranch now just sell off property when they need money (they own thousands upon thousands of acres) and the hunting activity doesnt really generate enough income. All that aside he was a great guy and put me on plenty of animals. It was not a slam dunk, it took about 6 hours to find, stalk and kill a nice goat.Theres no fences or anything canned this is a wild hunt in some of the greatest terrain you'll ever see.If your going back I would say give them a call make sure they still offer hunts and definitely try to go during turkey season in the spring that island is loaded with huge gobblers and no pressure.I missed the season by 2 weeks and still kicking myself they are litterally everywhere on the island where there is trees and grass especially the north side.I used a borrowed gun from the ranch which was dead on.I have also heard about an operation called Hawaiin Safaris or something like that but no firsthand experience.Good Luck

If the NY bowhunters were really that concerned about "their" deer or "their" season they would strongly advocate the use of crossbows which are inherintly more accurate by design and beginning hunters would be more accurately killing deer instead of flinging arrows all over the woods and wounding and not recovering deer.A crossbow would make the perfect beginner or older person outfit then down the line they could switch up to a vertical bow as they become more efficient. In fact a person wishing to bowhunt might even have to partake in an "apprentice" program where they HAVE to shoot a crossbow first and show proficiency and tag a deer before they can even get a vertical bow tag, which would result in better deer recovery AND provide an extra tag. Anyone with me on this?
