  1. My son put a cam on my new foodplot this past weekend in the vicinity of where a bear has been spotted, hope to get a few pics of him!
  2. If your the kind of guy that plans on taking his kids then go for it.Alot of guys come in my shop to buy licenses with the phrase"I'm just getting back into it, my kids, job, wife etc..took too much of my time".For some people myself included no matter what is going on in my life I still look foward to hunting season and took my kids as youth hunters all the time and even now that theyre in their 20's i always look foward to hunting with them.If you back off for a few years you might regret spending all that money in one shot that your not utilizing.
  3. During rifle and muzzleloader season I always wear an orange vest, hat and gloves while traveling to and from the stand and almost always while onstand.(tree).
  4. I used throw n grow last year and it made a nice green belt of grass inline with my treestand inside the woods but honestly it didnt seem to concentrate deer any differently and it was all gone by the end of bow season (dead) This year I finally did a nice sized food plot in an old ag field just outside the edge of woods near my treestand location a combination of oats, rye, soybeans and sugar beets. Turkey and deer are being spotted here daily almost since the day it was planted and if they dont eat it all by bow season it should be awesome! The pic attached is about 3 days ago
  5. You misunderstood what I meant..When I said "my end" I mean when we sign on to the new accela program the screen on the computer for a dealer may be different,, but it should be the same you have to put in the swis code, parcel, etc and update the year.Without that info you will not be entered in the DMP drawing as a landowner and will not recieve your guaranteed tag..You are not allowed to get a tag for you and your wife, your son,etc..if you are a landowner.According to the DEC website only 1 tag can be issued per parcel and the owner's name must appear on tax bill. A landowner's spouse can get the tag but not the landowner AND the spouse..only 1 tag per parce per WMUl.If its owned by a corporation the applicants name must appear on the bill or a current letter from the company stating he is allowed to get the tag.I'm relaying this info as a fellow hunter to help not to start any debates....Say what you want about the DEC but I can tell you eventually they do follow up on this info and I'm just trying to help someone stay out of trouble.
  6. We are a NYS license issuing agent, on "our end" of the screen when issuing a license the system will not let you continue and will NOT issue a landowner tag without the current tax info updated. I dont know what it is like on "your end".as I've only done licensing as a dealer, cant understand how you can get the guaranteed tag without updating your current tax info but hey thats DEC! As far as giving your ID info to someone else don't try it! Believe it or not DEC tracks all that info and can lead to a big problem. We had an instance where a man gave some false info and had to go upstate to answer to charges to the local ECO Apparantly DEC takes issuing of DMP's very serious and follows up on any fishy circumstances
  7. Nobody will answer your question because none of what your saying is making any sense log onto :http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/6403.html it will answer all your DMP questions
  8. Yes jjb4900 your right about the cost difference between the two weapons but I was suggesting crossbows only because a hunter would not have to wait for the season to basically be over to tag out a doe but you are right the muzzleloader is another way for you to get meat Alot of folks don't take advantage of this We like to take does on our lease early to hopefully make bucks search harder for company during the rut
  9. Just throwing this out there regarding DMP's and not looking to start another crossbow debate From what I'm seeing how the way the regs are worded you need the muzzleloader tag to use crossbow during the second half of bow which would make it a guaranteed doe tag for $15.00 in ANY zone that crossbows can be used Landowner or not So if your looking to put some meat in the freezer go for it! Correct me if I'm wrong on this
  10. I'm all in favor of a sustainable harvest Lets add one to the daily bag limit Need one for the trophy wall
  11. Sure stop in anytime Love talking about past hunts Rob

  14. a little extra work for you or your butcher but worth the effort We make them every year Awesome
  15. I too have hunted turkeys all over the country and outside of it ( mexico twice) I can honestly say after hunting 10 days out of 21 so far here in NY our longbeards are by far the toughest, smartest, cagiest, most ornery bastards on 2 feet. Were i hunted Osceolas they gobbled alot and came to calls.I also found the PA birds to be just as tough if not tougher to kill than the NY bird.I think its a combination of terrain, coyote predation and a large hunter population that keeps these birds sharp.Of course we all shot those lovesick 2 yr olds that run right in , but a fully mature NY longbeard purely called up and cleanly killed is a true trophy in my book. And yes I have to travel 4 hours to get to my hunting camp and spent long hours in the woods , i worked birds almost every day most with hens and some just plain outsmarted me.This morning I had 3 hammering away and coming when the whole thing went sour when a poacher tried sneaking up the back of the property and spooked them birds..The western states have more birds and less hunters and when I hunted them in Wyoming ,Montana and Nebraska they love to gobble, love to hear lots of calling and are easier to bring into gun range.
  16. WELCOME TO TURKEY HUNTING!!. Seriously...all depends on the bird...young,alone and looking for love they will gobble and come in better.. Henned up,older,wiser,..hmmm..not so much you might run into that bird in a week or so after his hens leave and kill him on the first call thats what makes this sport so frustrating and awesome all at the same time you probably didnt do anything wrong ,possibly called a little too much and a little too loud but you still had fun next time he dont come running try going silent thats sometimes the best call of all Enjoy
  17. Got a buddy up on the farm hunting with a young boy..the rain stopped the sun came out and they got some birds gobbling.. waiting for an update
  18. L.I.O. Farms... L.I.O. is my business name abreviated and I stole farms from Bill Jordan's Realtree Farms!! (kinda jealous of his operation) Ha!
  19. when we brought our guns into Canada we had the forms all filled out. It does save some time but you still have to go inside and check in with customs.
  20. It was a really cool encounter and also flies in the face of common belief that the hens almost always go to the gobbler..not these birds! They wanted to be with that hen in the worst way. Thats also why I purposely do not take any turkey calls with me so I dont do any pre season educating I just sit and listen and try to determine travel routes
