The adopted regulations will make the following changes to the Suffolk County deer hunting seasons and permit requirements: • Extends the regular (bowhunting) season for deer in Suffolk County through January 31. All towns will require a town permit for the 2015 season. • Property owners are no longer limited to issuing one landowner’s endorsement per ten acres or five endorsements per 100 acres however, a hunter still needs written landowner’s permission form a landowner owning ten or more acres of land. • The town permit quotas for each of the town’s has been increased to reflect current deer management needs ARCHERY DEER HUNTING ON STATE MANAGED LANDS IN JANUARY The following properties will be open for archery deer hunting from January 2 - 31, 2015. 2. I got mine a brand new Shadow Hunter blind complete with carpeting and a Mr. Buddy heater and 20lb bulk tank..no more complaining shes cold while sitting for deer.Of course now she's complaing she's not seeing enough deer.....
  3. I got a letter from DEC today. They are keeping the gun hunters seperate from the bow hunters. Will try to post the info soon
  4. Great story...once you take up bow or crossbow hunting youll see much more deer activity...And hopefully more shot opportunities..Nothing like watching deer acting like deer in a relaxed setting.
  5. Probably hunted about 14 days total this season. when I hunt L.I. its an hours drive..When I go up to my lease in Owego its 4 hours and now my new place with the cabin in Spencer is another 20 mins north of there. Round trip approx 490 miles..
  6. I used all legal weapons this year and can honestly say I welcomed the change from one type of season to the next...one day I'm toting a compound bow...a week later a crossbow etc...Kinda kept it fresh and interesting. As far as one being easier than an another that all goes out the window when Mr. big walks into range..then its ALL hard..My buck fever seems to be getting worse every year!!..Ha!
  7. To really appreciated L.I. duck hunting you would be well advised to pair up with someone who has a duckboat / duck hunting gear and explore the public marshes. Going with someone greatly shortens the learning curve regarding tides, winds, and places birds like to frequent. Its all public, free, and alot less crowded than the DEC lands..Although weekends in good areas will see heavy shooting.. if you can sneak out during the week most times youll have a island all to yourself.
  8. I like the outside sink idea..Will work on one of those for my new place this spring!
  9. You can also give Pete Clare a call at Turkey Trot Acres in Candor, Tioga county. Great lodge, great people, great food and above all lots of turkeys!! You will also learn alot and its a good clean place thats women friendly. It would be tough to get it done in 1 day..hunts are usually booked in a 3 day block.
  10. 10% being in the right place 10% being in the right place at the right time 80% luck dont let anyone tell u different Enjoy the rest of your season sounded like a fun one so far
  11. Honestly I would welcome another animal to hunt in NY during the big game season and I really cant see hogs getting overpopulated with the locals driving around with guns in their back seats and the amount of guys in the woods with weapons should be enough to control the population. NY is not like Texas or Florida
  12. Instead of the public commentary on these birds the DEC should have just quietly added them to the daily bag limit during the normal duck season. No one would have been the wiser..And by using the word ERADICATION on already sensitive subject they basically nailed the coffin on this issue.
  13. True they do move around ...following changing food sources..pushed by predators BUT its a damn good place to start comes April scouting..sometimes theyre right where you left em'
  14. Tough animals them deer are....good to see it healed up
  15. I'm shooting an Excalibur Matrix 310 with Illum. diablo arrows with the Factory Boltcutter 150 grain broadhead. First shot this year had a doe at 10 yds perfect pass thru, she ran 20 yds and died.. A week later I get a nice buck at 20 yds and also what I thought was a good pass thru shot resulted in a non vital hit and a lost deer. I'm thinking if I switch to a wider cutting diameter mechanical I will get better chances at hitting the vitals and leaving a better blood trail. I have heard good and bad things about mechanicals on crossbow arrows Anyone got any feedback on Rage Crossbow heads from the field with my particular setup?
  16. Your scent control regiment seems perfect if not a little too OCD!. Start hunting closer and closer to the thickest stuff u can find and as far away from human activity as possible and you should see more deer. Take what the woods offer you..I wouldnt hold out only for MR. 200 class to walk by..its NY remember..there aint a whole lot of them going around! Good luck and enjoy
  17. This season it is 40 yrs of hunting for me
  18. Congrats on a great deer. Elite + Rage = awesome combo!!
  19. I have fished with Shane and can highly recommend him and his service.
  20. Awesome light I have the same one on my Elite. Better than the kind you turn to light up it seemed my battery was always dead, I like the positive on / off switch on this one much better.
  21. Aquired a new piece of land this year in 7S and did some scouting..Found a nice grove of Oak trees bearing acorns adjacent to thick cover in a transition from hardwoods to pines.I hunted it a few times without much action until Monday morning. The wind blew hard all weekend then finally monday it dawned calm and clear.Setup my climber with the wind in my face and set in..I had things to do back at the cabin and only intended to hunt till 9am. Well 9 am comes and I stand up and take the arrow off the Excalibur and put it in the quiver,,As i'm pulling up the rope I hear movement to my right and I see the back of a deer through the pines only about 15 yds away! I gently take the arrow back out of the quiver put it on the crossbow and flick off the safety. i got deer walking right to me along the logging road only 10 yds away.First in a range was a doe and a yearling..another doe..a small button buck...then a nice big doe bringing up the rear. I put the crosshairs on her and let it fly.I saw the lumenok make a perfect shot and she ran 20 yds and fell over..she got back up and stumbled and fell for good. Venison for the freezer!.now its time for some horns.. Excalibur Matrix 310 , Illum.Diablo arrow and Excalibur Boltcutter 150 grn fixed broadhead.
  22. Turkeys are just as much fun to hunt in the fall as they are in the spring..sometimes you even get one gobbling..
  23. cutting them off on their way to or from the roost
