  1. I took a walk around my plots yesterday and saw no more evidence of browsing (Found ~10 stems last week in one small spot)! With the big leaves of the DER, GHR, and PTT, browsing would be pretty evident! On a positive note, I peeled a GHR and they are pretty tastey! A milder flavor than the red radishes. I even tasted the leaves of everything and they have a cabbage flavor. If the deer don't eat them, it'll give ME something to snack on during hunting season anyway!
  2. I thought I'd share something that has happened to me a couple of times. Thought it might be worth mentioning, maybe it will help someone out when they at wits end on a blood trail. While blood trailing a couple times, I've gotton so focused when the trail is obvious that I neglected to notice when the deer has backtracked, for whatever reason, and has veered off the origional path. Sometimes a good blood trail seems to come to an abrupt stop and you're left scratching your head (and panicing), because you can't find anymore blood. I've then backtracked the blood trail and watched along the sides and found where the deer must have turned around, followed the same path, then veered off the origional path in another direction. Just a little tip to keep in mind...
  3. My guess would be "single" lung and maybe liver. They will bleed awesome for the first ~100 yards, then the blood trail will crap out. Hit one like this ~6 years ago. Massive blood trail for ~100 yards, bubbles in blood, never would have thought he even would have made it 100 yards. Then, the blood trail started petering out to just specs, before none at all. Continued searching for a day and never found him. Deer and Deer Hunting magazine had an in the past year, regarding the dreaded "single" lung hit deer and how far they can go. It's amazing!
  4. I haven't even seen a doe yet!! Maybe they're just laying low, since the bucks are starting to get a little frisky now.
  5. Congrats! Is he a spike or 4pt? Can't tell if he has brows?
  6. Congrats! Great buck! It's tough to lose a tag on opening day, but he's worth it!!
  7. Been in the stand for 10 hrs in the past 3 days. I've seen, and passed on 2, a 3pt and a small 6pt. No does or fawn sightings.
  8. Very nice buck! Congrats!! And considering that's post #1, welcome to the board!
  9. I've been seeing quite a few rubs and scrapes. I would say more scrapes than I normally would this time of year.
  10. As if the wind isn't bad enough, later this week, we'll have the full moon to contend with...
  11. Let me know when they start hitting yours. I got nothing yet and we've had 3 frosts so far. Maybe after the other food sources start getting cleaned up...
  12. Environmental Management Representative. Keep the company in compliance with environmental laws and conformance to ISO 14001 Standards.
  13. Smart man!! As you get older, you realize you have other people depending on you to come home safely.
  14. Great bucks! I had a few that I was getting pics of regularly this summer also, then just disappeared. Haven't seen then since late August, before they rubbed out.
  15. That's a good sized bobcat!
  16. Good God!! Can imagine trying to get through a thicket or cornfield with that rack on your head?!?!
  17. I am electrically challenged/stupid! So I don't need an inverter? Guess I never realized there were different lights (12v?). How the heck would I hook up the TV?
  18. Yes, they are tree tubes. I planted a dozens of Sawtooth Oaks, Gobbler Sawtooth Oaks, and Chinese Chestnuts. The tree tubes do help a lot, both in growth and protection from deer browsing. I ran out, so some trees got tubes and some didn't. Big difference! The tree tubes act as mini-greenhouses to extend the growing season, if you will. The ONLY negative that I have found with them are the damn yellow jackets like to nest in them! If you don't do anything about it, raccoons smell the larva and knock the tree tubes down and chew the hell out of the tubes to get to it. I plan on getting some payback with the raccoons this trapping season! I "think" I remember reading something that said it is not recommended to use tree tubes with apple tree seedlings. I'm not 100% sure about that though, but you might want to check into it before you plant.
